How long will Diggs be in Dallas?

I think it depends on several things. First, when Diggs returns and how he plays. Second, if Elam or Revel plays nearly as well, because Dallas has to decide on paying Bland. Ideally, Revel would step up as Diggs' replacement, so Dallas can pay Bland and get out of Diggs' contract next year. The problem with Elam playing well is he's on a one-year deal, so there's no telling what his cost will be.

We need at least three good corners, so it is possible that Diggs stays even if Revel plays well and Elam moves on. This year, there are already major questions about our third corner spot to the extent that some want to trade for a nickel corner. IMO, we have to feel that we have two strong outside corner options and a decent slot to move on from Diggs ... unless Diggs does not play well.

I think it's true that you can "get things done" when you don't care who gets the credit. But when it comes to "world-conquering", Genghis Khan, Alexander, Caesar, Napoleon, etc...would tend to disagree about credit sharing.

In other words, some things require so great a sacrifice there's NO WAY a person is sharing the credit. Jimmy neglected his kids, divorced his wife and put his reputation on the line for the Cowboys. Jerry obviously sold all he had and went into debt....so unfortunately...both men feel they made the sacrifices to get the credit.

My opinion? Jerry can take credit for the platform, but NOT the results. He's not a coach, he didn't divorce his wife. He had financial uncertainty, but not that of a poor person who needs a job. He didn't create game plans that fell flat and then have to go back to the drawing board. He didn't coach the players and then have to cut them. Sorry Jerry...you're a GROUPIE.

I feel like he generally understands what sells copy. He understands what moves the media machine in general-not just sports media. Soap opera is his understanding. Jimmy and Landry/Schramm/Brandt built the empire that Jerry is still selling. Jerry must understand and have some type of philosophy to continue collecting on that empire today-he sells it like the fans’ legacy is complete whether they witnessed SB triumphs or did not. I don’t know where he would draw the line at what he would do/allow to sell a story and keep interest in the team high (that might be a scary finding).

After watching the Netflix series and discovering his college ambition to owning/managing/marketing a professional football franchise as his thesis, I feel validated and certain about past opinions that I had about JJ.

The “around the rim” circle analogy is a good fit for how JJ prioritizes a successful franchise. The number one priority of building the successful franchise is getting people that follow a team to follow it year round. The creation of a “soap opera” he refers to is based on this philosophy.

The long standing beef with Jones and Johnson still smolders and smarts (mostly Jones) because Jones still wants more recognition for the 90’s dynasty. He put in all that money and effort and fans/media don’t care about brand partnering and money making schemes above on the field success. Once he figured out that was the main attention draw he became obsessed with gaining more credit for on field success-Jimmy resisted (as he should).

At this point, Jerry fully understands the massive difference between his understanding of building a financially successful franchise and Jimmy’s understanding of building a fully successful on field team. Jerry understands he will never be able to bridge that gap, but enjoys the media attention too much to basically just sit in an owner’s box.

Lots of choices come from this central philosophy. From whom to pay and who to build the team around. When to pay the core players in the team building. How the media can be used. How stories can be manufactured…When does a team move on from a core player…

Remember a circle may not have a beginning, but it also has no end.
