Jerry is still trying to rationalize the Micah trade

Still seems like a lot of money for a guy who doesn’t play half the time defense is on the field.
He’s a pass rushing specialist.
Well, he was worth 2 -1st round picks and a starter on DL. Including highest defensive contract by far . And that was a last ditch trade.

So yes, based on he was a 3 time All Pro, is only 1 of 2 players( Reggie White) in NFL history with 12 sacks first 4 years, I’d say there’s a great argument he was worth it.

Ultimately, if the team kept Parsons or traded him comes down to one question. Are you making a run for it this season or are you rebuilding? If you are making a run for it, you do like the packers and make the trade. If you rebuilding then trading him is good. Some on here are going to make an argument that the cowboys are in the Run, based on last week game alone, and then at the same time try to say that trading parsons (never mind it was at the last minute) is a good thing. Then they are going to bemoan the fact at the end of the season that you can't make a run for it if you don't have defense, despite their previous stance.

Well, I say Jerry won the negotiation on this one.
No way Parsons is anywhere near what Reggie White was. Parsons isn’t a game changer as White was or Charles Haley.

I'm watching the rerun of Red*skins vs Packers.
Parsons doesn't even play that much. He mainly plays obvious pass downs.
On run plays he's just there.
He was credited with 2 assisted tackles.
And he wanted how much?
.
Yeah. I know it's just one game.
He averaged 1 solo tackle per game during his time in Dallas.
Packers have stated they are limiting his snaps due to his back injury.

You know, the one Jerry made fun of.

Wait, are you saying that Jerry traded Micah for Reggie White?

I thought it was Clark and a couple of late first round picks.

If I knew we were getting Reggie White then I owe Jerry an apology.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan on the Micah Parsons trade: “We’re going to be getting players in the top 30 (draft picks). We’ve got two years of getting Green Bay’s top 30 player. And that should do some damage for us. And then we add that to the picks we’re going to have anyway, and that should do some damage."

“Now, by the way, in between that time, there are 30 other teams other than the Cowboys playing without Micah, this week. There’s ways to play defense and scheme that don’t necessarily involve any player, whether it be Dion Sanders, looking way back, or who it is, a lot of people won a lot of games and didn’t have Dion Sanders on the field for them. How’d that happen?"

“That’s called, you got to have about, minimum, 40-something players to play this game. Between being available with a nick or an injury, plus at the same time, just availability from the numbers of snaps in a game. You can’t go out there and rush the passer for 60 plays a game at all.

“My point is, all of this weighs into the consideration, and it was so much thought out over the last months that we needed an opportunity to see if our trade was there.”

At this point I'm excited about the trade and I believe the players are too, which showed against the world champion Eagles that the Boys SHOULD HAVE BEATEN LAST THURSDAY!

If we were truly in rebuild mode I think most fans would have agreed. Place Micah on the open market to highest bidder before the draft so you can receive the most from him.

But this wasn’t where our organization was. And the rebuild word was never used. Our Owner, GM and basically everyone in our FO and coaching staff thought this team could contend now. There was no insinuation of looking ahead to next year, etc.

This rebuild mode was inserted by fans, etc as an effort to defend Cowboys failed negotiations and last minute bail out trade as some sort of strategy for a major rebuild.

You’re certainly entitled to your opinion but most would agree ( at least those outside defensive Cowboy fans) that Parsons is a generational talent and why even in a last minute trade received 2 1st round picks.

I used those comparisons because that’s the type level his career has begun. Not that he’s at that career level yet . And again why he warranted to most a market price contract that most saw coming and received high compensation.

Those facts = highly talented . Who else on our team would we receive 2 1st round picks and a starter?

We gave up a huge talent regardless whether we believe he was worth it or not, because he obviously was worth it. Just not to us. And why we are being criticized.

Not to mention, he's 26 yrs old and in his prime. Those types of players are normally never available.

@Shane612 Jerry won the negotiation? More like he won more soap opera material for the team he owns. In turn, MP won the highest contract ever for a non-qb AND is on a young, up and coming team. Pretty obvious who won the negotiations

Pass rushing talent.
But he’s no Reggie White.
Do you know what Micah averaged as Cowboy in tackles?
Are you going to say that his mere presence caused the other team to be afraid?

Correct. Rarely a young talent like Parsons available in NFL. Maybe later on in career on second extension contract.

This was not about a team looking to rebuild . This was a failed negotiation and last minute bail out.

The rest is simply an attempt to deflect the actions and control the narrative.

Basically we couldn’t get a deal done so this was the best we could do at last minute.

The Cowboys haven’t had a rebuild since 1989 and aren’t having one now.

Jerry has said every year that the goal, that season, is a Super Bowl.

I would love a rebuild but Jerry has been in a race against Father Time and his own insecurities following the departure of Jimmy and his agenda doesn’t match the way the sports world knows about how to build a champion.

Don’t get wrapped up in Reggie White comparison. Was only used as a factual sack comparison which had been widely used.

And I’m not making any personal evaluations which I’m not qualified to do. All I can do is report the facts.

He was a 3 time All Pro. Only 1 of 2 players in NFL history to begin career with 12 sacks in first 4 seasons.

And he received highest contract for a defensive player while compensating in a trade 2 first rd picks and a starter.

That all adds up at least by NFL standards a very talented player. I’ll let the league serve as the evaluator not fans.

There are numerous statistics that show Parsons was one of those extremely rare defensive players whose mere presence makes everyone around him better.

As far as forcing adjustments and gamplanning by opponents, just ask any DC in the NFL. Every single one of them says often and repeatedly that he is unique and their planning puts him at front and center of their strategy.

I’m with you. Either have a real shot to win or be in rebuild mode.

We are stuck in some half measure situation because they either refuse to rebuild so Jerry can still get camera time or they just have no real plan or idea of how to win under the current system.

Perpetual mediocrity is really the worst place to be, but they won’t come anywhere close to a SB this way, and it hardly a small sample size.
