Are fans ready to accept the Micah trade devasted our defense?

Yes, and there would have been one point of failure had we kept him. The players the Cowboys can sign or even re-sign combined with the additional draft picks provide several.

Meaning, if Micah gets hurt (and he's still dealing with back issues in Green Bay) and misses games, that would be like missing several players for the Cowboys next season because not paying him $40+ million gave them that opportunity.

Regardless, this defense is bad. We could have two Micahs or two Wares or two anybodies and it wouldn't help.

The scheme is bad. Our secondary is bad. All Micah would have done at best is provide a bandaid with an occasional blow-out loss because the band-aid came off.
We won't ever know cause this was the first year MP and the rest of the defense would have played this scheme. Again, not saying they would have been world beaters, but you've had all of summer to implement and then the main cog is gone, would obviously throw a wrench into the scheme regardless.

Secondly, if they had re-signed MP, his cap number would have been smaller than what it is now or would have been. They always defer or use sign-on bonuses to offset the cap hit. There are ALWAYS way to circumvent the cap IF you really want to win and put the best team you can get on the field. It's been proven time and time again and it's only an excuse JJ/Stephen use to not do more and fans continue to believe it. Stop falling for the okey doke.

I understand if we were actually in an official rebuild mode and Micah wasn’t in our plans as we planned on trading him to highest bidder during Free Agency that could have actually been a strategic plan. But that’s not what happened. We had every intention on resigning. We just couldn’t get a deal done . But I’m not here to argue out as that’s been exhausted over last couple months.

This thread is about what the impacts of losing Micah has meant to this defense . The fact we lost him a week before the season had to be devasting to a DC and schemes with other losses on defense in FA and injuries.

Where was our pass rush going to come from. We also lost Lawrence as a Cap Casualty. Our top two edge rushers gone .

And with our 2 CB’s not a 100% recovering from injuries we were leaving our secondary very vulnerable without a pass rush.

WTH were we thinking. We had to know it could be a disaster .
What are you posting about???? Even with Parsons here this defense struggled mightily against teams that ran the ball. Parsons would take himself out of games because he needed breathers, and it didn't matter to him when he took them. The Cowboys have major issues with LBers, CBs and Safeties.

Sam Williams mazi no drafted linebackers no drafted safeties and two stiff injured man corners who are confused about zone

Micah couldn't fix this defense. It might be slightly better with him, but it would still be pretty bad.

I would mostly agree, but I think the big issue is simply that this defense overall is not very good so no one person will be the missing link. Parsons wont take a bad defense to good, but I think he could help an average defense become good....especially at the rate this offense can score which is where Parsons has done his best work.

Parsons would at least have given me some hope as maybe Overshown can provide some plus value when he gets back, or maybe they can make a deadline deal for a rental DB to get the secondary on track. Without a true centerpiece on defense like a Parsons I'm skeptical that any move will really move the needle....especially if Eberflus is going to continue to be stubborn with his scheme.
To me, it all comes down to what did the team do with Parsons here? It played great during a lot of regular season games and then made quick exits in the playoffs.

Now, that's not me saying it was Micah's fault because it wasn't as several people deserve that blame, but simply having Micah on the team did not change the end result.

For $40+ million per year you could get 4 starters and throw in 2 extra first round draft picks combined with the fact that 4 years with Parsons yielded no deep playoff runs (again, not his fault but having him didn't make it happen either), it's a no brainer decision to me.

The Cowboys defense is bad on all levels. One superstar player like Micah would help, but it wouldn't fix anything.

Coaching, scheme and support matters............IF Jerry had spent more time surrounding him with a top DC and a couple more elite players, we would be having a different conversation. As several GMs have said.....the odds of drafting another defensive player as good as Parsons are slim. In other words, I would have been fine with the trade in March but 2 weeks before the start of the season? It has crippled the defense and the team. Fans who can't see that are in denial IMO.

This is what he and Quinn did in his rookie year

Or Micah might have gotten hurt had he stayed, or Dak may have not played this well, or ...

There are a lot of "maybe's" that we will never know.

I for one am very happy they traded Micah. Absolutely no regrets in fact. I fully expected the Cowboys to have a down year this year so sitting at 2-3-1 is not surprising at all.

Until they replace Eberflus or he changes his defensive system dramatically, having a "Micah" on the field is not going to help this team go deep in the playoffs this season.

While I was not pushing for the trade during the off-season, I did state many times that I do not think any defensive player is worth $40+ million in the salary cap era.

At least now the Cowboys have $40 million extra to spend every year for the next 4 years and they get two extra first round draft picks.

The Micah trade story will play out over the next couple years as to how skelator and son uses those picks. The on field part of it the only difference I can possibly see is maybe he gets pressure that these other yahoos aren't and we give up a few less huge plays but we sucked last year on defense just not historically bad

I am a supporter of the trade even though I liked him as a cowboy. If the FO dont screw it up it may work to our advantage. The only problem is the guys I want in the draft are arguably in top 5 and we wont suck that bad.

This defense would have been bad with Micah as well. Its that bad.

Now that it is over I am glad they traded him. They have money to sign players and draft picks to help this defense going forward.
I agree fully with this post. Losing Parsons didn’t help us any but this defense would have been bad with Parsons. The trade was the right move.

I wish the trade had occurred earlier (the cap really dictated that we trade Parsons anyway) but we may be better off selecting in 2026 and 2027 than this past draft and 2026 due to talent disparities draft to draft.

Micah is going to get worn down much quicker this season. Teams have figured out how to make him less effective with double teams rushing from the edge

Thank you!!!!!!!!! Exactly, one person isn't going to make this defense better, he didn't make it much better when he was here

Just think if that happens, that's someone else's 47 million mistake lol, could have been ours!!

Again. I totally agree. This trade was a total no brainer. This was the right move.

I have a feeling that Parsons will not perform up to his contract even if there had been no draft pick consideration. I think this trade will leave a legit mark on the Packers before it is over.

And that logic is exactly why I don't hate the trade. I don't love it for 2025, but I don't see the Cowboys making a deep run either way so it becomes kinda irrelevant to me. I felt the same way about Dak, Lamb, etc. It really feels like this core group need an overhaul even though that doesn't mean they are all bad players.

This IMO is because he had NO help.........you are playing far better teams in the playoffs than regular season. Meaning they didn't need 2-3 players to minimize his impact coz 1-2 players could do. What no one to wanna talk about is OTHER players not being good enough to step up and take advantage of the double and triple team he received.

That last line is exactly why I've been one of the few saying it was smarter to wait to trade him than to do so before the draft.

The 2025 draft was a weak draft and hopefully one or both of the 2026 and 2027 drafts will be a lot better.

This team is gonna be stuck in middling purgatory.

Hey let’s rebuild a 8-9, 9-8 ball club.

I know for some people it's about Micah, but to me it's really not. I think he's a great player and I had no doubt he would make the Packers a better team because they already had a good defense.

Right now though, no single defensive player is worth $30 million of cap space with this Cowboys defense, much less $40+ million. It's clear this team needs a lot of help on defense and now they can do that over the next couple of years.

That's all I've been talking about. This defense is bad and needs a lot of upgrades. Putting one superstar player on the team might help in some minor way, but it won't magically fix the other 10 starters on defense.

This would be the opportunity and plan going forward for 31 GMs in the NFL

Guess which one is going to do it "his own unique way" and screw it up?

I'll give you a tiny clue. Its gonna be the guy that wasnt interested in paying Derrick Henry 7 million for a 2000 yard season.
