Are fans ready to accept the Micah trade devasted our defense?

I dont know brother.

Micah covered up a lot of holes on this defense if only for the fact DCs had to plan for him.

Nothing has really changed in the secondary from when Quinn was here talent wise, so I find it hard to believe that we are seeing them regress THIS bad and him not being on the team has nothing to do with that.
No pass rush is exposing our secondary.

This defense would have been bad with Micah as well. Its that bad.

Now that it is over I am glad they traded him. They have money to sign players and draft picks to help this defense going forward.
I 100% agree however do we trust Sponge Bob and Square Pants to actually do something that will turn our defense around with said money?

Losing Dak should not affect the D how did the GB game work out the year before. Unfortunately MP had a habit of disappearing in big games. Looking objectively at this point I don’t see any difference in Dallas and in GB D wise, only time will tell the story but trading him whether they wanted to or not was the right decision
It’s the right decision if you’re tanking this season and in an official rebuild. Which wasn’t our intention.

Fans just want to believe that.

I understand if we were actually in an official rebuild mode and Micah wasn’t in our plans as we planned on trading him to highest bidder during Free Agency that could have actually been a strategic plan. But that’s not what happened. We had every intention on resigning. We just couldn’t get a deal done . But I’m not here to argue out as that’s been exhausted over last couple months.

This thread is about what the impacts of losing Micah has meant to this defense . The fact we lost him a week before the season had to be devasting to a DC and schemes with other losses on defense in FA and injuries.

Where was our pass rush going to come from. We also lost Lawrence as a Cap Casualty. Our top two edge rushers gone .

And with our 2 CB’s not a 100% recovering from injuries we were leaving our secondary very vulnerable without a pass rush.

WTH were we thinking. We had to know it could be a disaster .
This isn't true @ all. The D was a disaster before he was exiled.

Micah was the center piece of a trash D that GB railroaded the conference #2 seed in front of the whole planet, then hemmoraged yards & points like a stuck pig for the first however many games before his injury.

Alarmingly enough: the D actually improved a bit during his recovery.

Maybe you missed it.

I don't think Jerry was ever really serious about signing the guy. There's one thing we should know after 30 years of Jerry. If he wants a guy, the guy is going to be here right? Something threw up a red flag to Jerry, and he decided 1.. We got a draft, a quarterback, and 2. We can't afford to pay that kind of money for a one trick pony.

Our defense wouldn’t be “good” with Micah because the Lb’s and secondary are awful.

The defense absolutely would be better. There’s no doubt about that. It’s just a matter of how much.

The cowboys NEED to nail the two firsts they got for him on defenders. If they don’t. It’s gonna be tough sledding the next few years.

Yea, it’s amazing how disrupting the LOS causing havoc on QB masked weaknesses.

last time I checked, Micah wasn't covering receivers. Getting rid of him did hurt the defense but we were going to be bad regardless. now we just need Jerral to turn those picks into starters.

You can believe that if you want but it was more about being stubborn . He actually thought he had the leverage cause he was under contract.

But what he misjudged was that talent level of Micah’s level trumps. Micah was prepared to sit and wouldn’t have signed a Franchise Tag and ultimately forced the trade since Jethro didnt want to step up which was more about playing public perception than in best interest of Cowboys Football.

Which turns out to be like 5-7 million difference which over 4 years with Cap going up 10% each season is chump change. And with huge signing bonus Micah’s cap hits are minimal until back end. Less than 10 million this year.

I watched the defense WITH Micah as a Packer give up 40 points to Dallas at the Art Gallery after they jumped out to a 13-0 lead . No I don’t want 40 plus million per going out the door to Parsons . Dallas has too many other holes .

How was the defense with and without Parsons last year?

IE was it ranked higher or lower in the games he was in?
Or is that type of stat even available?

Honest question, not some gotcha follow up.
The defense was far better statistically with him.
In his 4-game absence Dallas was truly awful on defense. 1-3 record.
But they were just not a good football team at all on the year.

Micah played in both Philly games and we lost by a combined 75-13. They also lost the Detroit game 47-9 though Micah missed that one.

No one single defender in the entire NFL was going to boost the Dallas defense or team to being good.
Paying him so handsomely would have made any impact free agency signings on defense near impossible.

I begged Dallas to tank last year. Instead, they won 7 games.

And how much faith do we have in that?

If we think there’s another Micah waiting for us we are naive. This type of trade means you’re several years away from contending again . Which I promise you isn’t the intention of Jethro.

This trade wasn’t a rebuild plan. Rather just a bailout on a negation gone bad .

This IMO is because he had NO help.........you are playing far better teams in the playoffs than regular season. Meaning they didn't need 2-3 players to minimize his impact coz 1-2 players could do. What no one to wanna talk about is OTHER players not being good enough to step up and take advantage of the double and triple team he received.
Right. And why you continue trying to build around him, not trade him.

And that logic is exactly why I don't hate the trade. I don't love it for 2025, but I don't see the Cowboys making a deep run either way so it becomes kinda irrelevant to me. I felt the same way about Dak, Lamb, etc. It really feels like this core group need an overhaul even though that doesn't mean they are all bad players.
But what are the chances of this organization making a deep run.

Our dysfunctional organization has no intention of a rebuild. Jethro doesn’t even know what that means . Lol

You don’t trash a playoff contender hoping you can rebuild with a GM that has no idea .

Parsons can’t fix the main problem with Dallas. The main problem is accountability and it starts at the GM level. The GM has no fear of being fired. The players are chosen by the GM that is untouchable so they are kept around a lot longer than they should be. Example: Mazi Smith. Coaches get hired like Jason Garrett and stick around for a decade stinking up the joint. No accountability from the top to the bottom.

Maybe we win the Panthers game with him but in the grand scheme of things, we weren't going to win anything if we resigned him. We would just have fewer draft picks and be in more of a salary cap mess for the up and coming seasons. Jerry made the right choice. Where Jerry messed up is where he always messes up. He waits too long to make decisions and then the player and agent hold him and his money for a small fortune or gets less value fora player because he waited too long.

I agree that one player, especially an edge who while elite in pass rushing and average at best at edge setting wasn't going to be the sole reason for a good or bad defense.
I just think he was still a player to retool the defense around, and then let guys like Bland wait till the end of the season to pay.

With his current cap structure, Micah doesn't get expensive till 2028, where his cap goes from 26mil to 42mil and then it becomes a question on what the plans for him are.
This defense needs a lot of love to become good, just a shame as our offense this year seems to be clicking for the most part.

The overall decline in the defense can be attributed to the losses of Quinn, Parsons and Lawrence. Quinn's defense was mainly predicated on creating pressure on the QB and Parsons/Lawrence were 2 of the best in the league at doing so. That pressure also played into the strengths of your DBs who were able to make plays on the ball in the passing game. With that said, that defense was always susceptible to bully-ball but only the really good teams were able to effectively carry that out, so it really wasnt a big issue until the playoffs. Of course, when it matters most....

Mix of truth and nonsense here.
Micah was already being difficult claiming back issues but yes, he would have reluctantly signed his franchise tag because he wasn't going to leave a FT season worth of cash on the table, knowing Dallas would retain his rights.

Jerry is ego-driven and he did get offended but ultimately that was good for Dallas.
Signing Parsons would have been stupid. Period.
No matter who says otherwise or how much someone likes him.
He was a progress stopper and their most valuable asset on the trade market for a team starved for better draft picks and some draft success.

Handing him 136M GTD would have gone very, very poorly.

Dallas instead got a starting DT for 2.3M this year and 2 R1 picks.

We are going to get these treaties every Cowboys loss when in fact the losses are exactly why they had no business paying him like that and locking him up long-term.
