Rumors Jalen Tolbert trade buzz

One thing about Tolbert the TD basket sent to him by Milton last week and the just beautiful catch in the Jets game staying in bounds . In the rookie contract tenure of Tolbert I don’t think he’s ended up injury list missing any games . Mingo ? Hasn’t done a thing since Jerry got him . Tolbert found the end zone 7 times last year catching from the back up QB .
 
You know who could find a place in a successful offense for Tolbert next year as a FA . Either McVay in LA or GB LaFleur he seems to go 4 deep yearly with WR’s.

I agree with you that Tolbert is not a bust by any means. He's a solid NFL receiver, definitely not a 1 or 2, debatably a 3 or 4.

Some could argue he's never been given the opportunity to excel, others could say last year he got a lot of run and ended up with statistically pretty solid numbers (49 catches, 610 yds, 7 TDs). Those are solid #3 numbers.

I think the Cowboys hoped he would develop into a #2 (as a 3rd round pick), but he did not. He also got passed as the #3 by Turpin. Now he's out of time as his rookie deal expires. For the Cowboys, it makes sense to try to get something for him, as he won't be brought back on a 2nd contract (because he's not a top 3 here), and we have guys on the roster like Mingo and Flournoy that we'd like to look at (and their deals are not expiring yet), so they are still under our control at very reasonable coin.

No one is going to trade for Tolbert since his contract is expiring and if there interested they will approach him as a FA after the season .

Tolbert is a 5 or 6 you don’t want seeing the field. He is extremely soft with 0 run after the catch.

That’s because Flournoy isn’t as high a draft pick as Tolbert (3rd round, RF was 6th rd) and doesn’t make as much money either.

Sound silly? It is. Jerry has shown for years that he wants the guys he’s paying the most and drafted the highest to be playing. Doesn’t matter whether or not they are good enough.

In his warped confluence of GM and owner, whoever is being paid the most or drafted the highest must play. He wants to look like a drafting genius so the draft picks must play. Highest paid players always play. Regardless if someone else is better. It’s his weird insecurity.

Sure there have been occasional exceptions. But rare.
 
FUNNY THING IS, IF I were Tolbert or any of these guys in his position that are going to "not dress/healthy scratch" around this time, i'd be in the media's face!!!! I'd say "yeah i'm probably on the block, if they're going to trade me, they should just trade me, no hard feelings, just get it done with!"

Bingo, this is exactly it. One is the contract/money, two is the draft status.

It's like they realize the only thing they're halfway good at (and in their minds of course, they're exceptional at) is drafting, so they cling to these predraft grades like a toddler with his binky.
 
Won’t they get a comp pick for his when he leaves in the offseason anyway? Probably more than what they’d get in a trade…

Very doubtful that Tolbert gets a contract or sees the snap count to qualify for a comp pick.

Even if so with the defensive issue the cowboys probably sign enough low end FAs next year to cancel out any 6th/7th round comp pick the could be eligible for.

Disagree. A 5 or a 6 doesn't catch almost 50 balls for 600+ yards and 7 TDs in a season. He's a 3 or a 4 on most teams.
The issue here is he's out of time and we have other guys who are not (Mingo and Flournoy) so they move up in the pecking order since they are signed for next season. It's the way the NFL works.
Tolbert will go somewhere next season and may become a good player elsewhere. I'm not defending him, he had a chance after last year to cement himself as a top 3 for us and he did not. He even got passed up by Turpin as the #3., so he had his chance here and didn't make the most of it. He'll get a chance somewhere else.
