Rapoport: Trade deadline, how active will Dallas be

Eagles see a weakness, they don't wait, they seem to attack it and have urgency. Meanwhile the smug delusional Jones boys sit on their hands waiting for teams to call us and kiss our mood ring as they kneel before king Jerry and prince Stevie. I kid around but it almost feels like that to me. They make me ill.

I rather keep the draft picks than make a trade - this team isn't winning a super bowl what's the point in wasting draft capital unless the trade is to improve this year and beyond

I agree but wouldn't it be nice if they showed any urgency?

How can they do both? I mean my idea was pass up on using draft picks but go bring in guys like Kendrick Simmons and guys like Gilmore maybe of the free agent pool hell if you want another running back there's enough of those too like Foreman and others But they are having players a lot of them come back some tonight and then the rest of them over the bye week you'll have Revel and Overshown back unless there's a set back for the Raiders game and beyond so this team is getting healthier..

I mean the urgency is there as far as them saying they're trying to fix this behind the scenes but what else are they supposed to do I mean I wish they would at the bye week is when Jerry does this so we'll be able to talk about this starting Wednesday or Thursday I can see them possibly bringing in guys like I just wrote above for tryouts physicals talk to them about money nothing's guaranteed the rest of the year so what's 1/2 a year's salary and guys who can play real hard for 8 games I mean they're not young anymore so you could get as much out of them right now would have been is better than had you got them at the beginning of the year..

Yeah that kind of effort is that what the urgency you're talking about 'cause I believe I know they know in the locker room behind the scenes they're frustrated they want things to get better I just don't know if they have the players to do it or the defensive coordinator to absolutely gives a hoot,

That's the proper word for here, but you know what I mean.. Yeah the desperation and urgency should be how they call plays from here on out on both sides of the ball they need to play like it's over time and it's the last game of the year..

I didn't like how they didn't go for it a couple times on 4th down late in the game I didn't like the late calls in the Panther game and that's just on offense the whole defense needs to play desperate and that's Matt will Matt actually finally learned that we need to bring and manufacture pressure bring more guys in the box like he did against Washington but we need to do it the rest of the year ,

Just do it!!!!!! Even if it doesn't work at least you're showing the fans that you give a hoot..

Bingo.

A 100 percent disagree you're trying to make excuses 'cause you're in love with the Eagles and Howie Roseman it's your secret love affair we get it there's a lot of those secret Eagles fans in here Phillips has been nothing the last three years he is not who he was he was not worth a 3rd i'm sorry you try to say that about Brian Hough too you remember him the total $17 million failure they had to get rid of just because the Eagles do it doesn't make it good..

Who can say all you want I laugh when I read your post 100 percent disagree this guy is a total reach they overpaid for him and he it doesn't mean he's going to be any good..

I'm saying right at the moment he's not better than Clowney they're the same type of player Phillips hasn't done anything in like three years it's not even availability he just hasn't got it done He is not worth a third when we just gave a 3rd for George Pickens you probably worth the first that's what you call a bargain i'm saying the 3rd is overpaying for the guy I wouldn't have gave up more than a 5th..

Not trying to knock the Eagles but I'm telling you a spade is a spade even the guys they're picked up the two corners both spare parts lately they are not who they used to be they are somebody if the Cowboys made these moves you all would have said that they were Jags they were washed and that the Cowboys overpaid but because Howie Roseman does it all of a sudden the narrative switches to 0 no but they they're going to be good...
What total BS. Why is it so hard to just have actual football conversations when people disagree? Are we not allowed to discuss different viewpoints without being called haters and eagle fans? It’s just a cowardice low blow with zero merit. I’ve been talking up Phillips for a couple weeks now and how I’d love to see the cowboys find a way to land him. This has nothing at all to do with Philly getting him, I’m simply not changing my opinion of the player after the fact.

Phillips was part of 20 sacks his first two years, then had limited snaps due to injuries the following two years. Hes back now this year averaging a pressure roughly every 5.5 pass rushes. Thats good production for a pass rusher, especially one with size to contribute in the run game, and athleticism to drop into coverage.

If you want to talk football I’m here for it. If you want to name call and label people who think differently I certainly can’t stop you, but that’s really sad.

If the latest reported asking price for Trey Hendrickson (1st) is accurate, I want no part of that deal.
I do that with Green Bay's first in a heartbeat. Do you think we're going to do better in the late first round than a player who had 18 sacks last year, has been to the Pro Bowl four times, etc. He has four sacks this season despite being limited some by injury.

I think our fans value draft picks too much when there's about a 50/50 chance of hitting at best.

How is that dumb that's maximizing your leverage you tag the guy but then you tell them look we're not holding you hostage go seek a trade then you can either match the trade offer or let them walk and get big value for him that is smart business and you're right they should not make a trade before the trade deadline that 'd be a waste of assets given that we don't even know who the defensive coordinator is going to be next year...
Nothing the Jones boys do is accidental, so I probably shouldn't have used the word dumb. How about this, if they franchise tag him, they're not serious about winning a championship. Just playing games with the picks and the cap. You can't have two WRs taking up almost 70M in cap space. They need to sign Pickens and restructure lamb to make room for some impact players on defense. Do we want to win or not?

Wrong If you believe the man is going to price himself out of the number two market that is what he's doing city Lamb owns the number one WR spot here he will keep the number one spot and unless George takes number two money and it's gonna be happy once he's signed to a long term deal being in the spotlight there's no guarantee for either that you don't know any of that you don't know what you're talking about you're trying to run a business up there that you have no business talking about You may not like the way Jerry does it but I know this you don't know anything about NFL football front office comes and goings you just don't you think you do you think you know everything because you read it they know it because they experience it..

Wholeheartedly disagree that letting George Pickens go says they're not serious when you get a nice pick for them you know let's see Kansas City Chiefs in his prime let who go Tyreek Hill and he was their number one he was all they had And they still said you know what they didn't want to pay him anymore because they felt they could do it differently for less money against the cap..

We're sitting here at 4 4 and 1 and you're telling me how important George Pickens is how about Cincinnati How they doing with those two receivers being paid all that money?

No this they're not going to Super Bowls. They're trying to get rid of Hendrickson their defense is worse than ours and they're like selling but they're not selling offense why is that exactly like they're not doing anything..

There are plenty of good teams out there that have a great number one and that's what you need a good offensive line a great run game and a quarterback you do not need a number 2 making big money you can get that in the draft...

Don't understand we just watched George Pickens without CD Lamb there and our offense ran fine we've seen CD lamb by himself with no true big time number two and he set records you're literally overrating the number two wide receiver position when we're trying to compare one that wants over 30 million or you can get a first or second round draft pick and get a really good one in the draft Him a rookie salary while he learns for two or three years when CD lamb then leaves and now we have another number one that you don't have to pay for four years..

So I don't get it that's not true at all jerry would be very smart and dedicated to this team to take the high draft pick for George Pickens if I put a caveat in there or should I say disclaimer if he wants more than 29 or 30 million and he and he comes to the table with ridiculous demands you must let him walk it is smart to franchise tag him with a first or 2nd round tender it would be great business to recognize you need the money in assets for the defense....

I mean the last few weeks when we've had both of them how is that working out had that workout there in Denver having two great wide receivers on the field at the same time how'd that work out I really want to know how that worked out...

I would like him to stay as well but I can see the other side because I take my heart out of it I don't need two superstar wide receivers here as a fan to feel good about my team They can do it without him and if they at least get a second in return that was worth it you get the man for a full year that you gave a 3rd for and you get a 2nd back and you use that for a wide receiver where there's a lot of good wide receivers in the draft...

I don't really know why you think this is just one way or not like you're gonna call Jerry stupid for allowing George Pickens to walk if they can get that kind of compensation for him I say take it especially if it's a 1st rounder That's the thing you can put a first round tender on him so he can go see if he's worth that to another team who's willing to pay him $35 million and then it's understandable if he wants to leave or the Cowboys can see he's not getting a lot of offers and gives them leverage to sign him for a more fair deal This is a win win by franchise tagging this guy because you can either match or you can get a hole for a guy you gave a 3rd for you're going to get a 1 or a 2 back..

Still don't get it you obviously don't understand that in the NFL you do not need two highly paid wide receivers to function..

Do you want to go back to that Denver game because I'm trying to figure out who they're too highly paid wide receivers and highly paid quarterbacks are because they beat the living snot out of us with a rookie and a good number one but I don't think they have two number ones?

Oh they're a young team but that proves you don't need to pay two receivers over $30 million And yes this is a rant because I don't get it I don't understand where you're getting this jerry would be stupid and doesn't care about a Super Bowl if he lets George Pickens walk that makes no sense...

But love him to be here but I also love them to use that money on a defender and use the draft pick you get back from George and use that on a receiver in the draft it's much easier and by the way everyone's got all these like great feelings about Flournoy will make him the number three here why the rookie number two is learning it it doesn't seem like a big deal to me it's about resources and this team needs to put most of those on defense.....

I still don't get it i've read it three times you're right you can't pay 270 million that means you trade one get the assets and you draft a great wide receiver in a very deep wide receiver draft they were gonna pick up TET last draft he wasn't there or George Pickens wouldn't even be here right now That was high on their list last year meaning if they trade George Pickens for a high draft pick they will also be looking for WR2 in the draft there's nothing wrong with having a rookie wide receiver we saw CD lamb almost have 1000 yards as a rookie with prime gallop and amari cooper having over a thousand.

I like having options you do not need George Pickens to win a championship you need a better defense if you already have a great number one wide receiver you got a #2 wide receiver from the draft in the first 3 rounds and then you get Flournoy rolling why not I take the pics you act like getting rid of George just kills our shot I don't think he made it easier cincinnati bengals they did it and it's not helping them..

It's about rebuilding the defense and not having a dynamic fan friendly offense that's not making the team technically better you need that money for the defense Restructuring only kicks money down the road by the way that doesn't help the Cowboys using like all your stuff on credit then we have to pay it down the road that makes no sense I'd rather see if he'll stay for 29 million if not get the picks.....

I don’t understand so many fans wanting no trades.
You do realize that you can’t be successful trying to draft and play 5-6 rookies on defense next year, right?

It's because if the trade doesn't make sense you don't do it you're wasting trade assets You can pick up great players in the offseason on the free agent market or at that time when you know your defensive coordinator is what type of defense you might want to be running and whether you have George Pickens or not then you know where to put your resources not now doesn't seem worth it to me that's why....

I hope they trade away lamb and diggs for some picks. Maybe they'd get a 1st and 3rd

Pretty much in step with this thinking also. If they give up a first and it’s the packers pick it would be easier for me understand since that pick will likely be 20-25 but still agree
