Why couldn't we have Schotty sooner?

I know this might be a controversial take, but, why couldn't we have Schotty earlier? I think he's been great.

Someone mentioned in another thread that he seems like a Sirianni without Roseman. I think that's fair, but he's more likeable. To me, maybe this is something he's developed over time, but I'm actually curious why we couldn't have him in, say, 2016, instead of Garrett at the time?

Some of the things I like about him that I've noticed:

• I think his clock management so far has been much better than Garrett and McCarthy (and I liked McCarthy).
• He's got less mind numbing bad decisions than the last two or three HCs we've had so far.
• He seems genuine. He seems to genuinely care about his players and the team. Sometimes, you can see the phoniness. How many times did we complain about Garrett seemed "plastic" and fake? I appreciate his genuineness.
• I like his feel for the game. He seems to have a good idea of when to go for it and when not to do that.
• I actually appreciated the way he disciplined Lamb and Pickens. It sends a message to the team that nobody is above the rules. How many times have we questioned the discipline of the team?

By and large, he seems to have the makings of a great HC. I think he's got some flaws, but every coach does. I think he can get a bit too conservative with his play calling at times. However, by and large, he's been good.

To me, it's a shame we DIDN'T have him sooner. Can you imagine him when Dak was earlier in his career compared to Garrett? You mean to tell me 2016-2019 Schotty wouldn't be an upgrade over 2016-2019 Garrett?

Yeah, I'm not saying he's Jimmy by any means. However, he seems like a coach that knows what he's doing. He's shown me so far this season that he actually understands how to discipline the team in 2025. All in all, I think he's the type of coach that can win a Super Bowl here IF Jerry will actually listen to his plan and vision. That move to trade for Quinnen Williams was different compared to what Jerry normally does. If that was Schotty, then that's a big move.

Well, yeah, but I think it's good to see that we have a coach that actually had the courage to discipline his star players.

Why is it that anytime a fan points out positives about the team, you try to ruin it? I think he's clearly better than Garrett. I think, as I stated, there are times where he can be a bit too conservative. However, even a lot of the national media are noticing that he's actually a good HC so far. I think the losing record is understandable considering the defence we had starting the year. I think a lot of us knew this might be a rough season. However, from what I'm seeing so far, I like what I'm seeing. Give him a better defence to work with, and maybe we have something special to build on in 2026 and beyond.

When we finally beat a good team, I'll buy in a little more, but I will say he hasn't actively cost us a game yet. Garrett and McCarthy would lose 2-3 games per season with clock management issues alone.

I like schotty so far but I think we have to look at from the POV of his hiring- the bar was so low for him so if he could talk and chew gum at the same time he would win a large segment of the fan base over.

Ultimately, he will be judged on wins and losses like all coach and that so far is tbd. I do like his demeanor however I’ll remain optimistic with him

Exactly, and that's a big part to me. We've lost games because of bad defence. We've lost games because our players didn't perform well. But we haven't seen a game yet where it was clearly the HC's fault. I don't think we expected a Lombardi season this year. But what I'm seeing so far? I like him.

I’m on the fence about Schotty the innovator and forward thinker. He still seems to have an old school mindset in a sport that is continually evolving and adapting.

But maybe that’s more a reflection of influences by management.
