If Schott is allowed to hire his own DC-expect another Adams!

My concern with Flores is that he'll be here one year and then be a HC. So that's 5 coordinators in 5 years. It may be the same with Leonard. We need someone who will stay longer than a cup of coffee.
If Flores comes here and instantly gets hired as a HC the season after, then that means he had turned the defense around, right? That sounds like a win.

Flores knows he’ll be a HC somewhere soon. Have him bring in a young guy who can learn under him and become the DC after him.

Is Flores even available?
Why would he make a lateral move unless he really wants out.
He can make a bigger difference here because we have a playoff level top tier offense……that QB in Minnesota is going to hold that whole team down as we saw this year. If he comes here and gets our D to top 15 or better with some new players, and the O stays close to the same, we are a playoff team again. Might make him look better as a HC candidate…..”man, did you see what Flores did with Dallas D? COMPLETE turn around…..we need him as our HC”

With the speed of moving on from Eberflus, I feel ownership has given Schott the power to hire his own DC. It so happens that Jim Leonard can interview via zoom this week where the Broncos are on their 1st rd bye. There is a connection between them while with the Jets.

Now if they are unable to hire Leonard, I am expecting to see a similar approach like last offseason when they hired Klayton Adams. Adams had no prior afflication with Schott, but he was a rising star in the coaching ranks. They may hire someone we never heard of or even from the college ranks, but that doesn't mean it would be a poor hire over a retread candidate.

Flores remains my #1 target and it appears the Cowboys covet him. However, think his agent is trying to drive up his price for an extension with Minnesota. Also, heard he likes to build his defense around veterans not young prospects, which the Cowboys like to do.
Agreed 100% If you can land Flores then that should be priority. If not then I'm happy going the Adams route as that was an excellent hire and allowed the HC to pick his own staff.

LOL the head coach hiring his own assistants. Bro you living in some kind of fantasy world.

I’m concerned that his system is so blitz heavy. With our corners, that is concerning. I’d rather someone who is multiple
we really only got pressure this year when we did blitz

and even rushing 4 our secondary still gets burnt toast so it cant be any worse

I definitely get that. I think CB would shoot up list of draft needs, as well really hoping Revel takes a huge step in 2026

Schotty just said they will cast a wide net in looking for a DC. Requests for interviews should start going out this week.. let's hope the search is thorough.
The main trait I want to see in this DC is someone who has consistently shown the ability to pivot and adapt.

Doubt Jerry gives up that power.

He loves to hire DC's.

Its going to be Rex Ryan. Im gonna be telling you guys this until Im proven wrong. Ill die on that hill. Rex is going to be the hire
Dont think that will happen.

His brother was a disaster.

3-4 doesnt work on RPOs.

Shottenheimer has no business hiring anyone. He is a QB coach at best in this league.

I’d be surprised if he didn’t get an interview. He checks all the boxes the cowboys would want.

Former HC who can own the defensive side of the team.

Big name that’ll create headlines for the cowboys in the middle of the playoffs.

Has worked with schottenheimer

Was rumored to be very close to getting hired by Dallas in 2024.

I wouldn’t rule out Ryan for a second.

The issue with getting a Flores/Leonhard type is if they do come in and turn the D around it will lead to a HC job. Which means we will be looking for another DC in 1-2 years, again.
Unfortunately it’s definitely something you have to think about if you want to build a D with sustained success.

He is. Contract has been coached out in Minny. But would make alot of sense for him to drive his price up for another contract in Minny while he's suing the NFL.

Also, if O'Donnell doesn't work out and his defense plays well, he would be the interim HC and then the prime candidate to be their HC if it should come to that.

That is 1 thing i'm looking for. Also. A good teacher/communicator not just to the players but teach the assistant coaches as well.
