Today in Dallas Cowboys History - Dez Caught It!

Still a dumb decision to go for that kind of pass on a 4th and short in that situation. Could have easily hit something underneath and kept the ball moving. No matter the result, such a low percentage play in that situation.

Also, Dallas defense had 3-4 opportunities to get off the field on 3rd down when Rodgers took over after that play but they failed every single time. That defense that day was garbage, especially in the 2nd half. Rodgers was playing on one leg and shredded this defense.
 
Even if it would’ve been ruled a catch and the Cowboys score on the next play, they still lose this game. The defense wasn’t going to stop Roger’s from driving down the field and scoring. Ruling it incomplete just saved this game from being called “The Catch 2” or “Another Aaron Rodgers’ fantastic finish”.

I truly hate the Packers!!!

Romo should have thrown a better pass for Dez to catch it better. It was all his fault. Loser...cannot even take a snap without fumbling the ball. Only good Cowboy fans appreciate what he gave his body up for the Cowboys.

Zack Martin had blocked Julius Peppers COMPLETELY out of the hole. Peppers was forced to DIVE BACK INTO THE HOLE trying to strip the ball from Demarco Murray.

All Murray had to do was what all running backs are taught to do: protect the ball going through the line. The fumble was a perfect example of how to not carry the ball in traffic.

Murray thought it was clear sailing through a giant hole. No one should ever assume that nonsense.

what are you talking about? you said yourself Peppers was supposedly COMPLETELY out of the play. Murray had it in his outside arm which is his dominant arm & least likely to to encounter contact at that moment. Murray did absolutely nothing wrong. A guy who was what 6' 6" with 34" inch arms just made a heck of a play.

Those who think it wasn't a catch say it was under the "going to the ground rules". Except 3 steps and 5 yards, switching the ball and reaching out makes you a runner... otherwise you could literally stumble for 99 yards, fall and it wouldn't be a catch.

There's really no excuse to believe it wasn't a catch other than purposeful ignorance.

THIS. he clearly brought it from the catch point down & started tucking it, looked down at defender as he was turning up field as a runner. then being tangled with the defender on the ground made another football move to dive & reach for the goal line. he was clearly a runner at that point & the ball coming loose and being recovered by him is a fumble & clear recovery.

Shortly after this game a group I played golf with was discussing the play (most of them were anti Cowboys) but still the group was split and having the same discussions we are today. One of the guys was arguing the no catch side so I asked them if the GB defender had grabbed the ball while it was loose, would it have been ruled a fumble and recovery by the defense or an incomplete pass? After thinking about it for a bit, he agreed it would have been ruled a fumble .... thus it was already a catch & Dez was a runner at that point.

that is 100% not true. there is a video on youtube of romo talking thru the options and them knowing GB was going to sit hard on all those routes which is exactly what they did. he went to the 1 on 1 matchup withi his best player.

I must sign off now, but later I will attempt to locate a front-angle image showing Murray carrying the ball like a loaf of bread. I have posted the image here on CowboysZone in the past, so it may not be difficult to re-post once again. If I do so, I will pose the question of whether you still believe Murray was properly protecting the football on that particular play.

Yep. Some people have claimed he should have just thrown to Beasley. For one, he likely couldn't even see him as he was behind two lines of big men. Secondly, it would have had to have been a floaty pass over all of those players which could have resulted in an interception or given the time the ball would have been in the air, an incompete pass as Beasley would have been smashed as soon as he caught it. The pass to Dez was the correct football play. Like when Lebron kicks it out to the open shooter rather than try and score when marked by 4 players. Romo made the right decision/throw.

I think I've seen every angle. For me, he could have been spinning it on his fingertip like a basketball (yes, I'm exagerating). There was no reason for him to expect contact. I'm pretty sure I've seen Emmitt discuss the play and agree that Murray was fine, just a tremendous play by a tremendous player.

I just think that sometimes you have to give the other team credit rather than assign blame.
 
What am I constsntly forced to revisit that moron dropping that pass.
 
Since then, I’ve gone from a healthy respect for the Packers to despising them. I derived far too much glee from their collapse against the Bears.

Jerry sucks.
 
Oh no y'all didn't while I was busy yesterday .....

Not knowing the rules hasn't changed for 11 years running. Not a single mention of the going to the ground rule that applied on the play. We know why. Lol.
