Today in Dallas Cowboys History - Dez Caught It!

It's the truth though. Steps didn't matter when you're going to the ground back then if that's where you momentum was going to take you the entire time. Again if Dez was upright, he'd have run into the end zone on his feet. If you're not upright, you're going to the ground according to those rules at the time. Either/or. One or the other. There's no hybrid or conflating. It's not about what sounds good to you, it's what was on the books before they changed it.

If the 3rd step made Dez a runner in 2014, why did the league emphasize that with the rule change the Dez play would be a catch under the new rules at the point of his 3rd step. If it was part of the old rules, why did they announce it as a new thing when they introduced the new rule in 2018? These are facts, not beliefs. What is your reply to this?

I didn't watch the video but the NFL will go to any length to justify a bad call. Instead of admitting that the Calvin Johnson call was a bad call, they twisted themselves into a pretzel to justify a bad call and we ended up with years of ridiculous and inconsistent catch/no catch calls, and to this day no one can say what a catch is because it is still inconsistently called.

I didn't watch the video
Of course you didn't. It ended your "belief" that a 3rd step was considered a football move in 2014. It wasn't. As I said. When you have almost a whole thread of people operating this way, no catch theorist should be believed for anything of substance.

Only if you're here to apply it to the folks who won't let go of a call that didn't go their way 11 years ago with zero to show that it actually shouldn't have been called that way even though they claim so. But if you're here to apply it to the person lighting them up with the truth then that would be a misapplication.
Hey, Just like Hiroo, it's your hill to die on. I'm not going to try and stop you.

Misapplication like I said. I'm on top of the hill shooting down, kind sir.
All by yourself.

Perfectly applied. One lone soldier fighting a war that's long been decided.

Don't forget to look up. Those P-51s will sneak right up on ya.

The video was all about the changes to the rule. It did not justify the 2014 definition of a football move.

But I'm all by myself on the winning side. I'm defending what came to fruition. I'm not arguing the losing side that folks can't accept that's done and over with and can't be changed, yet bring up repeatedly. So yeah, misapplication.

And I'd say by the marks I'm hitting just these last few pages and over the years I'm doing alright, lol. Helps when you argue fact versus creation.

Still hilarious to me that so many people still cry about this play when 1) it didn’t even guarantee a win and 2) the play would have never happened if the officials didn’t give the cowboys the game on the non PI on the Hitchens play against the Lions.

Just waiting for Ronnie to come in with his zoomed in face mask grab while completely ignoring the 2 penalties that the cowboys committed on that one play, not to mention even if there were only one penalty (which clearly there was) they should have offset.

If that same play happened against the cowboys in that game and cost them a playoff spot, like it did the Lions, that would be the non Dez catch play that fans still cry about today. But NOPE, it didn’t happen to the cowboys so it was a legitimate non call and fans don’t want to even mention it because most know it was ********.

GET OVER IT! This is why our fans get the reputation they do. 11 years later and still making excuses and whining

How would you know? You didn't watch it. But it eliminated YOUR 2014 definition of a football move.

Ummm…his hill to die on? I’m pretty sure he’s not the one who started this thread 11 years after the play happened and I may be wrong, but I don’t believe he’s ever started a thread about this play, unlike the probable hundreds of fans that have.

And you know what? They did die on that hill when the officials made the correct call but they refuse to cross over and see the light. I’ll burn some sage for everyone in this thread except the one guy who doesn’t need it. “It’s time to let go, go to the light, cross in peace…and stop crying about a play that happened ELEVEN YEARS AGO!”

:hammer:

Looked secure in both hands to me.

Idc what anyone says. If you have to dilute the rules to the extent its a debate then you have a problem. When I see a player catch a ball, take 3 strides and go to the ground WITHOUT the ball ever touching the ground im calling it a catch. As it should be.

Im not of the opinion we go on the win anyway. Our defense would've folded like a lawn chair immediately.
Caught with two hands - transfered to one hand and dove for the goal line. If that is not control and a football move, there is no such thing as a football move. The arguments against a catch regarding a "football move" or "going to the ground" garbage don't hold water with that catch!

Marcus has a well earned reputation for jumping all over this topic whenever it comes up. Every. Single. Time. He even references it in unrelated threads from time to time. He is just as guilty of not letting it go as anyone.

As far as the correct call goes, would you admit there is a degree of subjectivity to this? Specifically, around the football move aspect. It is perfectly reasonable to suggest that catching the ball, switching hands, taking multiple steps then lunging while stretching the ball out demonstrated a football move or two.

If the only defense is a subjective interpretation that leans solely on a technicality, and an acceptance of the NFL stating they investigated themselves and found themselves innocent, then so be it but expect to have a hard time selling that nonsense.

As far as letting it go goes. Can we talk about other aspects of the history of the Dallas Cowboys or is it just the things you don't want to talk about that are off limits?

There is a reason why this play got so much attention and is still talked about today while so many others faded to the background. There is a reason why the league backtracked and changed the rule as a result of this play.

The debates say otherwise.
Only in your mind, Hiroo.

Did I not say you'd be back to grace me with your presence again and again? Talk about not being able to let something go. Lol.
What kind of psycho babble is this? How on earth is me coming late to the party on this thread, after you are completely dug in and fortified, Coming back "again and again".

Now you're just being reactive and emotionally defensive.

Clearly this matters a heck of a lot more to you than it does to me. I'd suggest reflecting on why that is.

There, that's my exit.

Carry on, Hiroo.
