We simply haven’t had a championship caliber team. We were close a couple times years ago with #1 seeds in both Romo and Daks first full season starting getting upset which happens which weren’t directly blamed on either QB and a #2 seed a few years ago. But no real higher level consistency from year to year.

I’ve been around for both glory eras and haven’t seen anything since remotely similar. Which I put on the one constant throughout this era, Jethro Jone$.

Romo and Dak have been in the same situations. Both have had great offensive years, but as anyone who watched football for a bit knows is that each year great playoff teams kick it into another gear and play at a different level of intensity than they did during the season. As anyone who watched the cowboys for awhile knows, our team hasn't kicked it into another gear in the playoffs. It doesn't matter if you were the best offense in the regular season, because there are offenses and defenses that are playing at a different level than they did in the regular season. We've been there before under both Romo and Dak, where we had a great season but get embarrassed in the Playoffs. Jones is to blame for this, because it takes more than a puppet coach to get a team focused and have the psychological impact on the players to get them all on the same page and have the mental fortitude required to be successful in the playoffs. I remember watching Aikman saying that he hated when Jimmy left the team and Barry was there, because all of the sudden he had to be bad guy as well -- coaches usually can play the bad cop while the QB can play the good coop when it comes to leadership. Jones created a situation I think, where for a quarterback to succeed here they have to be more than the average leader and fill in the gap as well that the puppet coaches don't fill.

Ultimately, you earn respect in this league for how you do in the playoffs, not the regular season. Is anyone going to remember us as being the best offense of the league, when we couldn't even get into the playoffs? History will just write it off as another failure without inserting a footnote.

No, it wasn't. The rule was changed mid game. Before that, when a Qb tucked the ball in and lost it, it was a fumble. They changed the rule due to the bad call.

When a QB's arm is moving forward before his arm is hit, it's not a fumble. That is still the case today. The rule at the time clearly addressed the pump fake Brady did and put it on par with an arm moving forward just like the rule that still exists today.

When [an offensive] player is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body. Also, if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, it is a fumble.​

If you watch the play at 1:06, it's exactly as this rule was written. Brady hadn't tucked the ball back into his gut yet. Woodson also got away with striking Brady in the head that could have been called so if there was some clandestine plot to save Brady, that was it whether he fumbled or not. Why didn't they?

Stroud has also had more games with his defense holding the opponent under 20 points than Dak .. 3 to 2. It's weird how much more games you win when the defense shows up. Stroud has committed 5 TDs and 4 turnovers in 5 games. Dak has 18 TDs (14 pass/4 rush) and 7 turnovers in 7 games. One guy's TD to turnover ratio is about 1 to 1 while the other is over 2.5 to 1. Yet we're crowing about the guy doing far less to help his team win? That's Cowboys fans for ya. SMH.

But if you read the rule and watch the video, it followed suit. They simply equated bringing the ball back to you the same way as throwing a pass and having your hand hit. Stupid rule, sure, but it was what it was at the time.

Yes I did. I have many many posts stating that TEAMS win games, not just the quarterback. This isn't boxing or golf.

Dak is the highest paid player in NFL history.

How much more respect does he need?

I'm a Cowboys fan and he is my guy. I root for him like crazy. I defend him whenever necessary.

However,

When I try to envision the accomplishments of the highest paid player in NFL history, I expect to see the proportional results.

I would expect to see at least one Super Bowl ring, a couple of times playing in an NFC championship game, perhaps an MVP in the Super Bowl or the season.

Don't get me wrong, he is a great quarterback but he isn't the best quarterback, much less the best player currently in the league. Regardless, his impact on the Cowboys salary cap remains.

Therefore, I would say that Dak gets more than the right kind of respect. In fact, there is a balance to that respect owed by Dak. He can make good on that balance with a Super Bowl championship.

I'm not hating on him, I like him as a quarterback and a person, but it is time.
