Another way to think of it...maybe the Cowboys think of DEze as the young pass rusher of the future? He was 2nd to Abdul Carter amongst rookies in pressure rate and average time to pressure so the sacks will come. I would probably take him as a prospect over any of these dudes not named Bailey.

You add Faulk as the DLaw replacement and our DL would make it very hard to run against.

Add another FA pass rush specialist and maybe we are cooking?

You can have bigger DEs that can play the run instead of having 245-250 lbs EDGEs taking on 310-315 OTs.

It’s a healthy discussion and a good debate. We both see lack of pass rusher as their top need, will be interesting to see how they address it. Kind of like wr, they always have prioritized this position.

We had the same exact discussion about wr last yr as we are talking about edge. In my opinion, there is no chance the cowboys allow Pickens to hit the open market, they will for that extension but always have that tag

Agree, wrote a post about what Stephen said in that after the season press conference, mentioning linebacker and secondary. This tells me pass rusher will be a fa priority and those other needs will be the draft focus

I love BB and Voch but they are notorious for not liking guys without big production and / or the super bendy guys.

Check out some others and you will find people that have him high.

I am a fan if Nate Tice and Fran Duffy for their draft content and they both had him super high...Nate had him 1 overall at 1 point!

Same here. As much as I like Broaddus, Voch, Owning et al., their circle can sometimes get stuck in the same kind of group think that other draftniks do. Not sure how I feel about Faulk, but it's important that fans also think for themselves too.

 

[Verdict]

I am not locked into one line of thinking on this draft. I think there are 3 or 4 guys that you would love to see you fall to 12 and if so, you sprint to the podium with the card unless you get an offer that just blows you away.

If one of those truly blue chip type of prospects is not there I’m trying to move back and get the most bang for my buck in a trade back scenario. Maybe that’s two spots back for a 3rd and swap back a 5th or maybe that’s trading all the way into the second round in return for 3 first round picks (or other appropriate compensation). I’m open for business at that point.

I’m not forcing a pick at 12 or even 20 that I’m not sold on. There may be a guy sitting there at 20 that another team has a first round grade on and we are washed out. Again I’m open for bisinesss there at 20.

The BIGGER question is philosophy. Some players are boom or bust guys. If they hit you get Demarcus Ware. If you miss, well you get Bossman Fat.

We need contributors out of this draft. This team might be better off taking Greg Ellis than Randy Moss at this point. We have reached for need and taken reckless swings and missed a LOT.

You really need to be sure about what you are getting at 12. Can’t afford to botch that pick, or 20 for that matter.

One of the most polarizing draft prospects in the class. Some analysts I really respect have him high as top 5 some have him more as a bottom of the 1st kind of player. I'm a little torn b/c in the top 20 I'm typically looking for a Edge that checks boxes for size/length, athleticism and production (ideally in a power 5 conference). The production just hasn't been there.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT...There is a little more to unpack.

1. Auburn used him in a funky way where he was playing all across the DL and even when outside was in more of a 2 gap type scheme limiting his ability to fully produce.
2. He was 19 freaking years old when he had 7 sacks and 10+ TFLs in his best season so his best football is ahead of him.

I'm not pounding the table for him but he is very intriguing to me and I could get on board at 12 if we go that route. Will he ever be a + pass rusher? I don't know...but I do know he'll be a + run defender that can create some pressure across the entire DL.

I wonder if he can turn into a Michael Bennett type player? Base end on early down with ability to kick inside on passing downs and give you 6-8 sacks a year while being a monster against the run.

If he works really hard he could become as good as Chauncey Golston ...

I think you are severely underestimating his traits...

The ceiling is significantly higher IMO.

Hey we all have our opinions and I respect a healthy debate...but if you dont watch the players just say "ABC scout said this."

I think McCoy and Styles are going to he the hot names. I think with Parker here, I think there could be a real McCoy push. I can see him wanting to try and develop a Mitchell/DeJean II in McCoy and Revel. I could see Delane entering the convo as well. Im not as high on him, but alot guys have him mocked near our pick

I think Styles fits that Zack Baun role to a tee, heard the Cowboys scouts are also high on him.

To me it's their actual scouting. I don't care for Broaddus' style, but I'll admit he's improved in that area. Definitely better than when he used to send angry PMs on here to people who disagreed with him.

To me it would be like putting your money with a bad stock picker because just you liked his radio show. Who cares about his delivery or style if he's wrong?
