Free Style: Reddy Steward's versatility could give Cowboys depth at CB

Ouch.

In spirit of fairness how did other cbs stack up,?

Really just curious. Ive no dog in this fight
The Eagles, as a team, allowed 56.8% against

Riley Moss, Denver, allowed 39%

For what it’s worth, Stafford, Allen and Burrow all *averaged* over 90.

Devon Witherspoon is the only CB to average 90+
What I mean is they consider Daks week 1 performance against the Eagles the same as his week 2 they gave him a 90 grade which I mean he played good enough but just confirms they are all over the place.

Our CB's that got enough snaps not to be skewed:

Bland: 67.5 (77 targets)
Diggs: 80.p ( 20 targets)
Elam: 62.5 (40 targets)
Carson: 64.7 (17 targets)
Bridges: 57.1 (28 targets)
Revel: 67.7 (31 targets)
Steward 86.5 (52 targets)

Thank you.

Marathon had mentioned he was more interested in his tackling which is what I remember about him. Good tacklee, good blitzes.

He's a 4-6 CB, teams need guys like him but guys like him are on PS all over league.

Like I said no dog in the fight on this one.

Stewards niche is as a pure slot CB. I think where he could catch in the NFL is a down roster ST/Backup slot CB. If he can do that, he can have a Kyle Wilber like career(Wilber played 10 years). Reddy plays some ST, but not a ton. Only 17% last year. But then again he played almost 50% of defense snaps.....which is pretty yikes

I still hold out hope for Carson especially with a guy like Parker who specializes in getting the most out of corners. I assume Revel, Bland and Carson are our top guys. I’ve been of the belief the take a corner in the first depending on how the draft falls and guys like Downs or whoever don’t fall.
I'm kind of wondering if we got Downs or someone like Thienemen if we might not consider putting them in the slot in some situations. That allows you to have someone on the field who's solid against the run, can blitz the QB and can cover.

We still need another corner, but I do like the versatility of those safeties. I'm kind of expecting Bland and Revel to be our top two corners, but am wary about counting on either without a good fallback plan.

It's why I won't be surprised if corner and safety are our first two draft picks. We need help at linebacker and defensive end, but our secondary was our most glaring weakness last year.

Steward struggled badly in the finale at New York but otherwise he looked like he had a decent season as the nickel corner.

Ideally he would be the team's 4th or 5th corner but he gained valuable experience last season. Can't wait to see what he looks like under Parker's defensive staff.
One thing I like about him is he tackles. I think the slot is best place for him. But we have to add more talent at CB

Oh for sure I think that nickel could very easily be a Downs type. I feel like with Seahawks they have a similar situation with how they use Nick Emmanwori.

I have no problem with our picks being corner and safety.

There are some linebackers in free agency that can hold us over there. It’s a tough spot not having a 2nd and a 3rd in a deep safety and linebacker class. I don’t regret Quinnen and Pickens of course but that’s what happens when you have to fill holes via trade. Gonna cost you in the future.

Yeah that’s all I was saying. Like @gimmesix said if you are relying on him you are cooked. I’m speaking strictly as a 4th or 5th corner his tackling is what you need at the position.

He’ll be here in training camp.

He’s a restricted free agent, making less than a million,

There’s no reason for Parker to not give him a shot.

I saw nothing from him that would make him a difference maker
Considering he was thrown out there too soon and had extremely inadequate coaching and no help from a pass rush or Safety help, what did you expect?

If you check the title of the thread, it says "could" not will.
Well, I could give us depth at cornerback, but it's unrealistic.

I like Steward as a replacement for a player like Goodwin. If Dallas sees him as anything more than that, I don't think it's a good bet.

Stewart, our entire defense was awful. Everyone played poorly.

I would like to see what Parker can do to turn things around. Frankly, I think we just need a decent coach and some decent players from free agency and the draft.

I will reserve judgment until after one year.

Well, I mean...
Last year some here were actually even talking up the additions of Elam, Sanborn and Murray.
And then tried to run and hide behind the Flus sucks and it's all scheme crap once they saw how far off they were in the assessment of "their guys."

Its that Jerry over rate your guys elixir he adds to the CowboyZone water cooler.

A lot here still drink from it so it don't surprise me to read about another scrub being praised honestly.
Not me. I hated the Eberwuss hire just as I did with Zimmer. I knew we were in for a disaster once Quinn left and was replaced by Zimmer/Eberwuss.
