Trade value for Pickens might not be what people are expecting

Lets look at some of the bigger trades last offseason pre draft:

• Deebo Samuel for a 5th
• Jonah Jackson for a 6th
• Joe Thuney for a future 4th
• Christian Kirk for a future 7th
• Geno Smith for a 3rd
• DK Metcalf for a 2nd....this is probably the closest comp to Pickens
• Laremy Tunsil for a 3rd+7th+future 2nd & 4th
• Kenneth Murray for a 6th

Can they get a 1st? Thats debatable, but I would think that they should have no issue getting at least a 2nd similar to what DK got a year ago. Pickens value is probably somewhere in between the DK package and the Tunsil package. The better questions are probably would the Cowboys want multiple mid 3rd/4th/5th round picks coming their way or one higher pick....also would they rather defer their picks until 2027 to maximize the round they could get back.

From what he showed, he would be #1 wr in the draft skill wise….weapon. Contract plays a role in this though.

I didn't forget anything. I am responding to the post that trade value is not determined by talent alone. It's determined by talent and contract situation.

If George Pickens was making <$10 million, you'd get a 1st rd pick for him.

On a franchise tag making $28 million, he's not worth a 1st rd pick.

have you bothered to look at the contracts of the top 5 wrs in the NFL?
and any trade would be contingent on an agreed contract which is also something you seem to have forgotten about

I don’t know if the markets that big. He was available to any team when we got him. And it’s not like we gave a load to get him. Anyone really excited about him could have had him on a cheap deal for a year, and no one offered more or he’d be there now

drafting him wouldn’t come with a massive contract. That’s why his value is lower. You can’t expect a team to give up a top pick and pay a top contract.

Teams do it all the time. Take for example the Micah Parsons trade. Green Bay was willing to pay his contract and give up 2 first round picks.

Its almost always that way when big name wrs are traded. These teams always seem to immediately extend the player and stretch out the cap.

I agree with you, hes worth at least a first. Dude is 24 years old and balled out. The only hesitation would be behavioral concerns, which weren't an issue last season.

I don't think we can tender anything that would be a second-rounder. He's not an RFA. It's either transition or franchise tag him. Transition tag, you get nothing but the opportunity to match. Non-exclusive franchise tag is two firsts. Exclusive franchise tag means no one else can sign him.

I think his value probably goes up on draft day. Teams that want a top receiver will hold out hope of getting one in the first round, but when their targets are gone, they'll come after Pickens, like Philly did AJ Brown. If Dallas wants to trade him, that would be the best time. However, I think Dallas would be stupid to trade him just to get a draft pick that it will have to use to replace him.

Micah Parsons for 2 first rounders and Kenny Clark despite the 45 million per year price tag.

Also, Pickens in this years productions versus Metcalf is worth a 1st round grade at least. Cowboys would be crazy to trade him for only a 2nd.
