Trade value for Pickens might not be what people are expecting

Ever wonder why his trade value may NOT be what some think? It's what I have said.......one clean year isn't enough for the baggage he had attached to him. At least not for serious capital and a long-term deal with serious guaranteed money. As mentioned before, run it back again and he can write his numbers.

*****Don't see Bills taking the risk with a new coaching staff, not for a 1st and new deal
*****Pats have been linked to AJ Brown since Vrabel's hiring. Word is that he and Brown are still close from their time with the Titans. He fought against Brown's trade to the Eagles. In other words, that way is more likely than Pickens to the Pats IMO.

BTW......guess this puts the Pickens for Crosby trade to rest (lol).

As stated a few times.......he ain't going anywhere. This is 100% media and fan-driven......good fun talk for the off-season.
I don't work for the media.

Its almost always that way when big name wrs are traded. These teams always seem to immediately extend the player and stretch out the cap.

I agree with you, hes worth at least a first. Dude is 24 years old and balled out. The only hesitation would be behavioral concerns, which weren't an issue last season.

The market these guys are talking about is nonsense. Sounds more like they are baiting Jerry into a 2nd round tender lol
Second rounder tenders are only for RFA's

Would not shock me at all. A year doesn’t fix years of a reputation. We see the only team that traded for him….how people think that’s now equal to Max Crosby or a 1st? I don’t know. But receiver is the one position teams have no issue with drafting.

How does the tag and trade scenario work? It would seem that if Dallas tags Pickens then he has to sign the offer before any trade can be made. Once officially tagged, does the receiving team have to work out a long-term contract before the trade can be completed or do they just assume the one year tag and take their chances? Does that then mean Dallas must use the exclusive tag to trade him or can they use the non-exclusive?

I think the best option is non-exclusive tag him and let Pickens go determine his worth. Dallas gets picks if they don't want to match. Jerry doesn't seem to be good at exclusive negotiations.
If he is tagged, he can be traded and he is still on the tag with the team that trades for him. It is then up to them to extend him

Contract has to be worked out before anything can happen. We can use the non-exclusive tag on him, however if another team were to sign him it guarantees us 2 1st round picks which I don't think any team will give up for Pickens. I think the most likely scenario is we tag him, he plays out another year, balls out again and gets top WR1 money next year to another team. I don't think this front office is sold on him, particularly his personality.
A contract doesnt need to be worked out.

Yannick Ngakoue was traded on the tag, and played on the tag in 2020. He was even traded again that season.

All a team is doing is trading for rights. They dont have to extend the player

and any trade would be contingent on an agreed contract which is also something you seem to have forgotten about
Most likely, but not necessarily. A team trading for him doesnt have to extend him. They can keep on the tag. Dont know why they would, they can

Micah Parsons for 2 first rounders and Kenny Clark despite the 45 million per year price tag.

Also, Pickens in this years productions versus Metcalf is worth a 1st round grade at least. Cowboys would be crazy to trade him for only a 2nd.
All true but trade values move up and down throughout the year. Right now cap space is valued at a premium. 2026 draft picks are also valued higher with the draft right around the corner.

Pickens is the better player but you can’t just go off of one year of data either. Pickens is a career 1.97 yard per route player. Dk a 1.92 y/r player. Pickens spikes to 2.35 last year which is a monster season but will teams pay the premium for a career year on a pass heavy team that also has Lamb? Especially one that’ll be on team 3 in 3 seasons?

You might be able to squeeze a late 1st out of a team but my guess is a 2027 1st could be more likely. In 2026 a 2nd plus an another mid round pick might be the realistic value. I’m thinking Pickens remains a cowboy for this reason.

All it takes is 1 team to overpay so I could be wrong but I’m just not seeing a team giving Pickens the tyreek hill treatment this offseason.

I think the other team has to give him a long-term contract. The tag is not transferrable...it's just a one year option for the tagging team. Without the tag he has no contract. Can't play without a contract. He has to sign the tag before he can be traded iirc. No team is going to give up (2) first rounders AND pay him 35 mil/yr. It's just not happening. The Cowboys will be lucky to get ONE first rounder for him in a trade.
It is transferable as long as the player signs the tender

The difference is you have to pay him like a top 10 WR in the NFL rather than rookie contract.
The other monumental difference is you KNOW hes a stud. Its not a projection and hope it works out. Being a high draft pick guarantees nothing.

The Cowboys could do some serious work with that kind of draft capital. Those picks plus spending in FA could rebuild the defense.
Absolutely, even if they ended up with a very late round first they could parlay that into a 2nd and a 3rd to get back in both rounds.

Im not advocating getting rid of pickens but if a 1st rounder becomes available I do it in a heartbeat...rework the cap, grab some tier 1 and 2 fas, draft for bpa and rock and roll

When frankly we dont need cap savings
I don’t understand why many don’t understand this, they have plenty of cap space, Jerry has even mentioned there flexibility. They can sign whomever they want. Losing Pickens makes wr the top priority need, that doesn’t help you

If Pickens were in this year’s draft, he would be either the first or second receiver off the board. So a second-rounder is a big, fat no.
He'd be the 1st. Probably the 2nd overall pick knowing what he did this season.

If there was a guy out there in FA that could come in and play at 80% of what Pickens did, Id be more amenable. But there really isnt. Pierce would be their best bet and he is a deep ball only guy with low efficiency. He is best served as your 3rd best WR

Yikes!!! You willing to settle on a 2nd best case or possibly just a 3rd and 4th? I'm not!

I would be willing to do that. Having two great WRs is nice but that is not what will improve the Cowboys chances to contend for a SB.

The Seahawks traded their star WR DK Metcalf last off-season for a 2nd rounder and a 7th rounder.

I know I’m in the minority but I would trade either Pickens or Lamb this off-season and get some more draft capital in Day 2. Plus IMO committing long term cap space to two top shelf WRs when your defense is awful is foolish.
