I have never understood the philosophy of giving a “project” player who needs “time to develop” four full years to develop….then after they do not develop, say, “let’s re-sign this guy”.
To me this is exactly the kind of thinking that has given us the last 30 years.
First of all, let me preface this by saying I can carry less whether he's on our team or not,
but that's chump change they're talking about paying him, mostly non-guaranteed,
This is why,
because they look around, and it's not just Cowboys players, look around the league and see guys, and I know this is just quarterbacks, but there are others,
that take time to develop; How is it that Geno Smith became a starter in this league, and now Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield took the long way around to get back where he is, And now the next two are Mac Jones and Willis, I believe his name is with the Green Bay,
these guys were thrown away, the fan bases watch their players get cut and go somewhere else and become really good or maybe even better than good, one now has a ring, that everybody around here thought was trash,
Sam Darnold is a Super Bowl winning quarterback after the teams cut him saying he wasn't good enough to remain on their team.
even us, we have that feel good story here, I mean JWilliams just got paid, but he was on the trash heap, nobody wanted him, he got cut our own fan base thought it was a bad signing, that we were going to have the worst run game in the league, and look what happened.
I'm not saying that's going to happen with Sam Williams,
i'm just saying that's the reason why you give players time to develop because when you get rid of them too long and by the way last example Nashawn Wright ,people now all like we shouldn't have let him go, right, now when he was here he was Sam Williams, and now he's on a really good defense, he learned something, and he's better, he may be getting a payday this year too, even though I still don't think he's great, But that's what happens when you give up on players.
I think some fan bases are worried they're going to go somewhere else, and play better on a competitor or a rival, and they don't want to let it go, but Sam Williams he's a bubble guy for me, he's not a fan favorite...
I think you're mistaking US saying that what that offer would be is chump change in today's NFL it might be worth keep keeping him around another year or two for somehow coveting him, That's not the case.
