Can CP fix this defense in one season?

Fixing the defense is up to Jerry and Stephen. CP will help. But.....

If meaning resources aren't spent getting more than bargain bin FA's CP's hands will be tied. Or we draft injured players or reach for players or draft offense CP's hands will be tied.
Post of the morning!!!!!!!!!!

He has a lot on his shoulders to fix a mess that's been going on for several years. He's young, he appears extremely confident in his abilities which we all have to love! There's one thing to have confidence, and one thing to have support from those around you to get you what you need to make a successful defense.

Do you think he's able to make drastic changes to a poor defense in one year? Let's be realistic coog, we're not asking him to be #1 (if that happens, great!), but improvement is always a great thing. Getting key stops, showing improvement stopping the run, knowing our assignments etc! Please give your thoughts, i'm excited about the hire, are you???
Only if Jerry lets him.

We don't need a top 3 Offense.

We need a top 10 offense, with a top 10 Defense.

Trade Pickens and commit to fixing the defense.

We don't need to win games 38 to 35.

We need to win games 24 to 17.
Dear Lawd, post of the morning 2.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO, I have low expectations that he can get it done in one offseason, but I do expect some obvious progress by mid-season,

I just want to see improvement kind of how Dan Quinn did with Mike Nolan leaving and him taking over, he was able to improve the defense, and every offense stays on track, that's all we need is a solid defense.

Completely fix it, no, it'll take a couple off-seasons for that.

Dan Quinn did it in one season after Mike Nolan wet the bed. So, yes it can be done.

Only if the Jones boys spend money on defense early in FA and pick well in the 1st round on defense.

Obvious progress from the worst Defense ever?

That should happen by default.

He did not fix it in one offseason, He made it better, but he never truly fixed..

you want to talk about all the bigger games that he lost in the regular season and part of some of the collapses in the postseason you do realize that Dan Quinn coached that 2023 Green Bay debacle and they scored on almost every drive, you mean that fix??

no, it never was fixed, it was improved but there were still holes in it the same thing he brought to Washington and got demolished in NFCCG and Look at last year? Yes improved is the better word fixed it was never truly fixed it was just better, but it was full of holes.

Dan Quinns def beat up on wheat teams especially with bad offensive lines but when it came to trying to beat a better offense or a better coaching staff he failed quite often.. Think about both these coordinators Quinn and now CP are taking over like what was the worst defense on the planet meaning 32 so improvement should be more easily accomplished but to totally fix it,

it would need to be more than one offseason to really get it the way you'd want it..

I think this has a chance to improve yes in year one for CP just because he already has the center of the defensive line solid to start with and you work your way out it'll be a lot better than the other way around, where you're just trying to create havoc, any way you can..

Yes he can and that should be the expectation. The defense is going to get flooded with new players this offseason and already has a legitimate centerpiece in Q.

Honestly going from a bottom defense to #23 year one isnt good enough. Realistically this we should expect some regression out of this offense, especially if we lose a player like Pickens...and even if we don't we saw regression as the year went on in 2025. The entire emphasis of this offseason should be to create a defense that can be a top 10 unit. You don't have seasons to chalk up as rebuild years when your QB is 33 years old. No excuse to not be all in on fixing the defense...The metrics show that preventing points influences winning more than scoring points. Defenses are still leading the way to championships.
I don't care about flooded with new players. I care about adding talent.

We have 2 legit draft picks. That is not a flood.

If you expect Jerald to be highly active in FA early adding talented players, I think you will be disappointed.

It sounds like the brass might actually do something this offseason but my bet is it will be similar to when DQ got here. Low to mid level FA’s. I’m not expecting a Henderson etc.

My problem with Stephen is we get a MLB or DE in FA for instance and pay them and he thinks we’re set. Meaning we don’t need to get more or draft another one…..

You don't have to be extremely active in FA with those two high picks. Use both of those on defense or trade one of them for a veteran on defense. You also have a slim chance that they trade Pickens for additional defensive help. If the Maxx Crosby for Pickens chatter is legitimate at all its a huge boost. Give me a Crosby via trade, draft a guy like Styles and you have something to work with. A 2021 type of offseason where they go get a few lower end but not total duds type guys who you can work into your scheme can be OK. A group like we got with Watkins/Urban/Hooker/Neal/Kazee can be OK provided they hit on a true impact player elsewhere. In 2021 it was Parsons. You have 2 1st round picks + potentially a Pickens trade to go find that difference maker to really make your front 7 a strength.

DQ definitely had flaws as a DC. I bet he wishes the GM got him Q. Williams and Kenny Clark at DT while he had an All-Pro pass rusher.

The FO will determine how good the new DC will be and if the fix can be done quickly. Just like I said in my original response. Dumpster diving in FA won't cut it. Period.

I've said for some time that Eberflus was so bad that you couldn't really tell which players were salvageable and which ones are not. He didn't seem to make too many players better...if any.

There are decent chances for a turnaround...though I'm not sure on the scale of what Quinn did in one year.
I think a couple of the young guys can be contributors. Maybe not star but play decent. It’s also gonna be impirtant with this draft class. We need a couple of those late rnd picks to contribute. My only regret this off season so far is keeping ST cosch. Don’t get that decision

The FAs can't be JAGs though. They need a MLB, 2 DE/OLBs, CB, 2 Safeties. I think every one of those guys need to be a strong contributor too.
You can’t get all that in one offseason. They need to sign a starter quality FA safety now. I don’t see an early safety worth the pick falling to us. We can fix 2 spits in the draft and the other in FA. But they aren’t gonna be signing 4-5 FA starter quality players. Just not gonna be doable

what do you mean by fix? meaning a top 10 dominant type defense?

if that's your question, then no. no way. he will improve it through additional better players added via draft and FA and better scheme. but you don't go from the worst defense in the league, the 6th worst defense in history to dominant in one season. adding some good talent and new scheme will help propel them upwards. being at the bottom there iis no way but up.

so no one season fix. but improved yes. much improved? we will see

did you not see where I said progress, I mean I know it's a coog thread, but damn give me a break bud!!! lol

Think about this hard.

What year did we draft Parsons? OK, now what year did Quinn start being the DC here. Hmmmmmmmmmm

Totally aware. Can't beat landing an all-world player who actually fits your scheme.

My point exactly. This is what happens when you do 1 year deals, miss on draft picks, and have a dumpster diving approach to FA. The front office owns this disaster.
