Cowboys Offseason Feels Like More Hope Than Progress

It looks like their plan was to get Crosby, Quay walker/Nakobe Dean, And Jalon Thompson.

it didn’t work out. Dean took a lesser offer, Balt played the oops game and they did get their safety.
I agree, but you know what they say... Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. We needed to WIN in these instances and we didn't.

Just one move of replacing Flus with CP makes the Cowboys defense better.
Maybe ...... people were talking up Eberflus last year before the season started.

One example

Eberflus's defenses consistently ranked in the top 10 for points allowed in 2018, 2019, and 2021, and finished 10th in total defense in 2018.

A smart person would give him a chance.

:)

What kind of history would tell you that Jones or Lenard would be a better hire? Have they been Coordinates before?
The kind that says Jerry is going to muck it up!

If you think about it, the only times we have really got it right was when it fell in our lap.

I'll use Dak as an example of this... (They wanted Paxton Lynch and Conner Cook!!!!)

How can you win when you put the highest offer on the table, but the player chooses another team who offered less. There’s nothing in the world that they could WIN Dean because he clearly didn’t want to play for the Cowboys…. For whatever reason.

There is absolutely no one who thought Flus was an upgrade.
Oh we can go back and find those posts when Eberflus was hired lol. It was pretty split but there were plenty of fans that went to bat for Eberflus.

There was no basis to think there would be an upgrade from Zim to Flus. I’d argue it was a downgrade if you factor in what both have done.
I would agree....I liked Zimmer a lot more than Eberflus, but at the same time Eberflus has still produced top 10ish defenses in this league. CP I'm optimistic on, but he is a 1st year DC that we have no idea how he will react once the games start.

So, with that logic, no matter who Jerry hires, he’s going to “muck it up”…..whether it be Parker, Jones, or Lenard.

I mean, you're right once again, but that's assuming that Dean did take less to go to the Raiders. I'm not sure we will ever see the actual, official numbers. But I'd say, if money wasn't the object for Dean, what was? Could we have given it to him here? Maybe/Maybe Not. Dude might just want to live in Vegas and and see the show girls! IDK.

I see depth being put in place with a couple of starters. I am still concerned with the front seven, particularly at linebacker. The draft has to fall in the Cowboys favor.

No opinion yet on a first time DC.

about the same.
i like trading for gary and the cardinals s.
also like the big ucla dt from the chargers.
disappointed LB spot has been ignored.

The comment was made that based on the history of the Cowboys, Jones and Lenard would have been a better hire. I’m just wondering what history makes that the case? If anything, our history tells us that more than a few experienced DCs couldn’t get the job done.
Based on nothing. Cowboy fans just complain lol.

Jones has been. He was probably a better choice having been a DC multiple places. Jones actually started here in Louisiana at Franklin and then Jeanerette High Schools...places I pass daily on the way to work. He was DC at Boise State, LSU and defensive assistant/position coach (defensive backs) at many more places...including the Vikings. Been coaching since 2002. He's done a lot of coaching with defensive backs.

I think some did. Due to a couple of things: he coached some nice D in Indy once upon a time and the other is that Zimmer was an old and worn down DC.

Ultimately, the main factor for the optimism was the time Flush was hired was during the offseason, where hope always springs eternal for some.

It hasn't been ignored. They simply haven't been as persistent as they needed to be. But...you can't force players to play for you...even if you offer them more cash than another suitor. It's still their choice. Dean, Walker. Both chose Vegas. Gary, Thompson, Locke, Durant and Ogbonnia are some solid gets. The safety room is markedly better. They also have a cornerback who can be a starter...if Revel doesn't pan out.

Still holding out hope for a LB trade...maybe Greenard or even Thibodeaux. Might be wishful thinking at this point.

I just thought the whole Nakobe Dean thing was a bit funky. Dallas has been a thorn in the Eagles side since 2021 and it just didn't seem "right" that one of them would come and play for Dallas if given the option to play elsewhere. Walker...I'm not sure but him and Dean both played 3 seasons together for the Georgia Bulldogs. They have ties and so the influence of one could've become the decision of the other.

But I really thought they would have more options lined up.

I don't understand how fans don't feel this years defense will ALREADY be more competent than last years low bar? We were lost and confused all year under Eberflus. This year KC/QW full offseason. Secondary ALREADY improved drastically with now 2 top 20 draft picks and 3 top 100. Assuming the offense holds steady which I believe it will given the second year under Shotty/Adams RB room should be more acclimated etc.. I'm very encouraged given that's MARCH 13TH. AGAIN, IT'S MARCH 13TH. One step of the staircase at a time. WE CANNOT SEE THE TOP OF THE STAIRS YET PEOPLE. That's not how this works.
