Last year of Martin dead cap too. Don’t think anyone else we’ve cut or traded had any major money so shouldn’t have much dead money next year. Assuming we don’t cut or trade anyone else

He isn't good either. 3rd lowest pff graded bills player on offense. He also didn't move well enough for the Cowboys offense.

around here many people we're mad at Jerry for not just caving early they were really getting mad when it looked like he may hold out and then the fans got their way and the dudes now an anchor on our dead cap.

This is why you know they're serious though ,they were willing to eat that money and choose Clark over OSA, even though Clark would have been free to cut he didn't need to be extended or restructured he literally had no cap implications That tells me they know what they wanted so they were willing to sacrifice some cat for it..

So, they got a 3rd rounder but that's a lot of dead money to eat so somebody raise their hand up and said, "Hey we need to keep Clark over OSA."

Oh and we were taking a dead money hit anyway on Martin with his retirement.

It’s amazing people would rather rip Martin and not Jones. Jones screwed guys like Martin and Smith and Lawrence over.

No one is defending Jerry. He’s a world class liar and plays dirty all the time.

Doesn’t excuse players when they do dirt though.

2027 as of today.

Same story again. Cap will go but we will have to restructure Dak and CeeDee again.

Dak is always gonna be a monster number ($86m), but CeeDee’s restructures start paying off in pain soon enough ($46m).

Also, the fact that we continue to pay Clark almost same as Q is ridiculous.

Jerry should have told him NO. I would have. I would have traded him for picks. You could tell he was on the decline before that.
 
Osa got a $20 million bonus in 2025 which was pro-rated over 5 years. That's $4 million per year. Trading a player does not send that pro-rated bonus money to the new team. It stays with the old team. So $4 million over 4 years is $16 million. That stays with the Cowboys as dead money. But his 2026 CAP amount was more than that so the trade was actually a net CAP save for Dallas. The save is what his CAP what have been minus the dead money.

He was a bad re-sign. Just like Bland. Bland will end up the same next offseason.

I said that's my opinion the way I look at it he knew in the back of his mind he was about done that he was at retirement stages and still pushed it to where he could take money he knew he was never going to work for it that's stealing from my walk of life so you guys can keep sticking up for what he did but he's costing the Cowboys the ability to put more bodies on this roster so I don't care if you think he deserved it I say he didn't It's like he took a loan and it never paid for it..

He got that bonus money up front to raise his guaranteed money and then the very next year gone and now we're paying for it this year 16 million against the cap that could go to another player if you don't understand that I'm sorry dude I don't have emotional attachments to players even the great ones even the ones that are forever cowboys when they do this to the team I feel like it is shady..

Right I understand players want more money and if they go extremes threaten to hold out threaten to retire to get a bunch of bonus money knowing their bodies are breaking down and they're not playing as well and then have a off year that year and then retire the next year That makes me mad I love Zach Martin but in my opinion he stole that money because he knew that he was taking guaranteed bonus on me and not going to be around..

You know in the back of the minds they and I understand a lot of fans are loyal and II love the guy I love what he did for the Cowboys but in the long term this $16 million cap hit is hurting the team right now..

That's all I'm saying it's not like I hate the guy but I'm just being a realist here he knew it was coming he took the money and ran..

No, I don’t think that at all. At the time, Osa deserved the money—if he’s playing in a 4-3 and used to his strengths, he performed well. In fact, over the last three years, his numbers were actually better than Clark’s. So, no, it wasn’t a bad signing then, but it became one because over the past two seasons they’ve had to change coordinators and still have remnants of the last three defensive coordinators’ players on the roster that need to be cleared out.

He just ended up being the odd man out. The guy can play—keep an eye on San Francisco and you’ll see his numbers show he’s a good player who deserved that contract. The issue is the Cowboys went in a completely different direction with a new scheme and vision under this coaching staff, and now they’re paying to get rid of him because they believe Clark will be better in this particular system. But if you compare their stats, Osa’s been just as good, if not better, over the last three years.

I’m not going to say he’s a bad player or that they shouldn’t have signed him—that’s not the case at all. He just doesn’t fit anymore. But it’s clear this coaching staff is serious if they’re willing to eat that money and pick a player who might only be slightly better in the new scheme, even taking the cap hit.

They literally could have easily got out of Clark for free they could have got rid of the guy kept OSA and made it work but I'm glad we're seeing that We have a coaching staff now top to bottom that's not afraid to go to Jerry and says look I know you just paid a man and convince him to eat all that money to cut Osa who's not that big a difference from Clark but I believe they're looking at this as the strong point of the attack for the run game And while OSA is slightly better in the past game in a 43 then Clark he's not as good for what they're trying to accomplish here...

You want to play a 4-3 DT in a 3-4 Defensive scheme?

You want an undersized quick DT that can penetrate the gaps, to become a space eater and control a gap and a half, while taking on double teams?

What makes you think he even wanted to stay, once they decided to make the switch to a 3-4.

Respectfully, that doesn’t change the analysis for me. I would have made him play out his contract or traded him. I would not have given him a new contract. The dead cap hit was predictable. I wouldn’t have wasted that on a Martin that was already in decline.
