If someone were to sign him for a second, I do think there's some value in that for trying to improve a position since we can turn around and draft the best kicker later in the draft. Of course, there's risk to that.

I'm perfectly happy keeping Aubrey, though, so this isn't one that's going to bother me either way.

Only one kicker was drafted in the second round over the last twenty years and high draft kicker who was actually any good was probably gostkowski back in the 90s

the 2nd round tender was chosen to be high enough to scare off other teams but low enough that they don’t have to make him the highest paid kicker

Fair son out of Houston just became the highest paid kicker and will make more than Aubrey.

No one in NFL history has figured out how to draft kickers or if you even should

I would have to look at the stats to see where they rank. Its a luxury until you lose an important game because of a kick or you have multiple misses during the game and lose the game by 3.

Im not saying pay aubrey 10 mill, but they can do some other creative things to get him to stay. Kickers are damn near kicking from the 50 yard line now and are scoring tons of points a year. They are worth 2-3% of the annual cap.

They can get a good kicker for league minimum.

If you can get a 2nd round pick for your kicker. you do it. It has never been done in league history.

In all fairness to Jerry, he gets draft input from the coaching staff and particularly McClay. Frequently the player(s) you covet and intend to draft get picked by other teams. However those variables do not make Jerry less GM incompetent.
