The Browns adjusted Garrett's contract (more tradeable) -- (See new thread)

He’s not signing that tag until he has a deal he wants with some team. Otherwise his best move is to play on the tag. If someone wants to meets his terms AND that team can work out a trade with Dallas I’m sure he’d be thrilled.

If any team has contacted the Cowboys about a possible trade for Pickens it’s been kept quiet. Meanwhile, he can’t be traded just because the Cowboys have a mind to trade him. It will require Pickens cooperation and approval.
Really...really...really quiet. And THAT should tell anyone who cares to really notice...a LOT. That last sentence cannot be stressed enough. And Myles Garrett has a no-trade clause, so he will ALSO have a say as to where he will ultimately go...if he goes anywhere.

So why didn't Parsons make the run defense better?
First of all Parsons is nothing like Garrett so it’s not a good comparison IMO. Plus this is exactly the kind of move that can transform a team that is mediocre at best into a contender. Cleveland has a lot less to work with than Dallas.

And Myles Garrett is waaay better than Micah Parsons. Garrett is as dominant a defensive player there is in this league.

And Parsons will be 27 in May. Garrett will be 31 later this year. Parsons is certainly talented but he’s not on the same level as Garrett and now has a bad knee injury to recover from.

If we got 3-4 more good years out of Garrett this could become a better team much quicker than the slow motion, cautious moves this FO usually makes.

The Pickens talk, started by Chase ( as usual ) is wild. The Browns would have enough capital to draft TWO of the top 10 WRs. Why would they wanna trade for Pickens and pay him $30-35M WITHOUT having a legit starting QB? That's silly.....
$35 million receiver. 35 cent quarterback.

Cowboys fans are used to Jerry Jones dumb. Anything is possible with that mindset.

The Galloway trade was an absolute disaster. He played ONE game (the season opener...where he blew out his knee) with Aikman and that was it. He never even came close to living up to that deal. One of the worst decisions Jerry ever made...if not THE worst. He would've been FAR better off (albeit with hindsight) taking Randy Moss in 1998. The Cowboys may have made another good run at a championship that year.

The Cowboys didn't have a great defense in 2024...WITH Parsons. No way in hell could he have saved last years historically horrible defense. The Cowboys had the dude for four years...so where are the championships???
Galloway looked special and then blew out his knee. Then Aikman retired. I can't blame all of that on Jerry.

By far the worst deal was trading for Roy Williams imo. He was trash the entire time.

So why didn't Parsons make the run defense better? Why couldn't the Cowboys get it done with him in four seasons of trying? This defense needs to get better across the board before it becomes a "one player away" thing. Too many questions at LB, S and CB right now. Far too many. The man isn't worth 3 first round draft picks. And the Max Crosby sweepstakes happened BEFORE the Cowboys made all their subsequent player acquisitions. And even then, the Cowboys were only prepared to give up ONE first rounder.
Parson's was in rush mode 100% of the time trying to get individual records.

But why he did have to do it? Like an idiot he shipped off the best WR on the team at the time...Terrell Owens. Same thing happened again with Bryant. Same thing happened again with Cooper. And some want the same thing to happen yet AGAIN with Pickens. This pattern of bad moves involving the WR group really needs to end...because every time it has happened the WR group regressed the following season.

I didn't say he was better than Garrett. I'm saying that it's too much to give up in compensation if the Browns end up wanting three first rounders. And would you argue that he's NOT worth that, given the bonafides that you expounded upon?

The thing of it is...the Browns will incur a significant cap hit if the trade him before June 1. Reportedly 41 million. That figure becomes 15 million if the trade happens post June 1. What that tells me is that if he isn't traded before the draft then it is likely that he won't be traded until after June 1...with it's much lower cap hit. This means that any first round picks they demand would have to come from future draft years...at least 27 and 28' (firsts) and maybe even 29' if this thing becomes a bidding war (and it probably will).

So basically what you are looking at is the Cowboys killing their draft this year...and maybe even next year as well...IF they can engineer a trade of draft picks before the draft. But Garrett also has a no-trade clause so he will have the ultimate say in where he lands.

Good Lord, please save Jerry from himself. He was about to trade the 12th pick in the 2026 draft and a 2nd round pick in the 2027 draft for a player with a bad knee after he talked about no red shirt seasons.  Thank you Ravens for saving us from another disaster.
Would've been worth it. That dude camt win yall complain when he tries and complains when he doesnt!

He should've just drafted Moss in 1998 and he would've save himself a mountain of heartache.

Agreed and weve paid for that mistake multiple times. Its the reason hes taken chances on a few of these guys.

I'd be willing to trade a 1st or pickens. But not giving up 2 1st round picks. I'm still hoping we trade down to grab a couple more picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

But we’ve been told over and over that the cowboys can do whatever they want. Do you suppose it’s not true?:laugh:

You are not trading Pickens before the draft...so that isn't really on the table at this point. That could change but Pickens can't be traded until he signs the tag. Besides, a 20 and Pickens is probably not going to be enough. Not nearly enough if they want three first rounders for him...and if he's as good as advertised why wouldn't you demand three first-rounders? Moreover, it won't just be the Cowboys vying for his services.

Finally. You ship off Pickens and you are right back where you were in 2022 at San Francisco in the playoffs. Prescott forcing the ball to Lamb when things get tight. The NFC West and NFC North are far better top to bottom than they were in 21, 22 and '23. And it's those two divisions that have punched the Cowboys out the last three times they tried to advance.
If they want 3 1's for a 30 year old DE, good luck. I'm sure there's some team dumb enough to pay that price.
They Cowboys have the highest paid QB in the league, shouldn't he be able to make everyone around him better? We have three first rounders on the O-line. If we require a 1a, 1b receiver, in order to pay for that we'd have to go light somewhere else.

Seattle admitted they weren't expecting both 1st round picks but Jerry offered them and Tim Brown was a free agent that year and was expecting to go to Dallas but then that Galloway trade happened. i would have rather got Tim Brown and kept my picks.

To add insult to injury, Parcells gave Galloway away to TB for washed up Keyshawn Johnson.

I suspect something’s up. The move the Browns made with Garrett’s contract is a move Roseman does for close in salary cap relief. The Eagles Vice President of Football Operations and Strategy, Adam Berry, is the twin brother of Cleveland Browns General Manager Andrew Berry. Vic Fangio almost retired, but agreed to one more year. No secret Philly wants Jim Schwartz back when he can coach in 2027. No secret he and Garrett are close. A little too cozy if you ask me.
