The Browns adjusted Garrett's contract (more tradeable) -- (See new thread)

I didn't say he was better than Garrett. I'm saying that it's too much to give up in compensation if the Browns end up wanting three first rounders. And would you argue that he's NOT worth that, given the bonafides that you expounded upon?

The thing of it is...the Browns will incur a significant cap hit if the trade him before June 1. Reportedly 41 million. That figure becomes 15 million if the trade happens post June 1. What that tells me is that if he isn't traded before the draft then it is likely that he won't be traded until after June 1...with it's much lower cap hit. This means that any first round picks they demand would have to come from future draft years...at least 27 and 28' (firsts) and maybe even 29' if this thing becomes a bidding war (and it probably will).

So basically what you are looking at is the Cowboys killing their draft this year...and maybe even next year as well...IF they can engineer a trade of draft picks before the draft. But Garrett also has a no-trade clause so he will have the ultimate say in where he lands.
The Browns can want what they want for Garrett and we can want whatever we want for Pickens.

They both can say they are both worth 5 first round picks and then just agree to make a straight up trade. Problem solved.

I suspect something’s up. The move the Browns made with Garrett’s contract is a move Roseman does for close in salary cap relief. The Eagles Vice President of Football Operations and Strategy, Adam Berry, is the twin brother of Cleveland Browns General Manager Andrew Berry. Vic Fangio almost retired, but agreed to one more year. No secret Philly wants Jim Schwartz back when he can coach in 2027. No secret he and Garrett are close. A little too cozy if you ask me.
Right. But they will need any trade to be post June 1...or they will get whacked...reportedly a 41 million dollar cap hit.

2 1s for Garrett? I'd make that trade.

I know the defense needs more than one player, but Williams, Clark, Garrett, and Gary would be a nightmare for any OC to gameplan around.

We're looking at a 2-3 year defensive overhaul. I'm not thinking what helps us the most today. We still need linebackers, and I understand that spending two picks on one player makes filling those holes more difficult, but the trade-off is the best edge player in the game paired with arguably the best DT tandem in the league.

Plug holes at LB with journeymen/the draft, find more permanent solutions next offseason. Play them behind a monster defensive line this year and hope for the best.

DALLAS doesnt need garret right now, he costs too much.
Better to wait till after draft see who we get and then wait and see what our defense is like this coming season.
Go from there.

Dallas isnt ready to compete for a SB yet. They are trying to move up to just getting into playoffs level.
Lets do that first.
If you need garrett to just get into playoffs, you still wont be good enough to go for a SB.

you guys have 0 patience lol.
And all this trade pickens nonsense, they are not trading him till maybe next season.

Right. But they will need any trade to be post June 1...or they will get whacked...reportedly a 41 million dollar cap hit.
That works out perfect. That is most likely when Jerry will start talking to Mulagetta anyway.

That wasn’t my point. He said we are worse than the Browns.
Thats exactly what “winning seasons” mean, above .500

I remember when Cowboys fans wanted SBs and now fans like you hang their hat on being above .500

Congratulations

But then you no longer have the 26' picks to work with. And you might be giving up first rounders for up to three years (worst case). Steep price. Very...steep...price. No sale for me personally. He'd have to come with less draft compensation. I'm thinking a 1st and a 2nd which is probably a deal-breaker for the Browns. If he's as good as most here thinks he is then they will likely want at LEAST three picks...1-1-2 or even 1-1-1. And other teams will be looking to land him. And he has a no-trade clause, which further complicates the matter.

Philly’s in the same boat with one their high paid stars.
Right. AJ Brown. Stuck like Chuck. The Browns are 21 million under. Maybe 10 mil or so after paying their draft class (12 million estimated). So a 41 million dollar cap hit will knock them flat. I only see ONE potential restructure (Denzel Ward) that might offer any real relief. So a post June 1st trade makes the most sense fiscally. But you never know with the Browns. If they absolutely want to move him (and they haven't indicated that they even want to) I suppose they could hack up "something".

I don't get this logic....if we were one or two players away, trading for Garrett would be overkill IMO. We had one of the best, if not the best, offenses in the NFL last season and will return all starters. Had the worst defense and still came with 3 wins of a 10-win season, which is usually the floor for making the playoffs. I do not doubt that the addition of Garrett and CP elevates this defense to at least the top 15, maybe the top 10.

We are not in a team rebuilding mode ( defense, yes ). Our window is now ....3-4 years max.
this makes sense, if you assume injuries dont play a part. stop with the madden thinking. injuries are part of the sport

Pickens for Garrett straight up.

Zero patients.........it's been 30 years.

Pickens for Garrett straight up.
Even if the Browns wanted Pickens would Pickens have any interest is signing with them? Perhaps if they offered to make him the highest paid receiver ever. I don’t think any team will do that.

Stating we’ve done better than the Browns doesn’t mean I accept 30 years of futility or just seasons over .500. Or even one and out in the playoffs. You’re the second person since yesterday to put words in my mouth. I mean what I mean and not what you think I mean.

This, not the Charles Haley trade (had the team and just needed that missing piece) to get over the hump. We still need a lot and unless they are willing to do a straight swap Garrett for GP, forget it, we need every draft choice we can get.
