Cowboys have called to inquire about LB Brooks

O look… Jerry and his cast of clowns are talking again… rather than DOING anything, and then announcing it. Ya know. Like regular NFL organizations do.

All theater. Total incompetency.

3 Decades.

Your comment, for instance, is dumb. I'm not arguing what fair value for the player is as it is open for interpretation. The opinion I was disputing about a 5th rounder was indeed dumb and baseless as is your comment. Unlike those saying he can be had for a 5th or in some cases much less! I laid out a bunch of facts that explain why it's off base. And I hate to tell you but opinions can absolutely be wrong. Go cry somewhere else where someone wants to coddle you and please keep using your little facepalm emojis to show how aghast you are
Your opinions are not facts. That is just dumb just like your post. And I done necessarily think you’re wrong. But no one knows what he’s going to get in a trade until he actually is traded. There are valid reasons why he might not fetch as much as you think but I guess you’re the expert and only you know. What team do you work for?

I’m factoring in age depreciation. Walker (and Nakibe Dean) are 25 years old, while Brooks is 28.

I’m not giving up a 3rd round pick for just one year. Or tagging him. My opinion.
I don't know how much his age will affect his value on a three-year deal. He's 28 going on 29 and just completed his sixth year in the league. He's in his prime, not in decline. Brooks has been healthier than Dean and better than Walker and Dean.

And ... we'll see what he ends up going for. I think it will be a third and some change, and I'm fine with that. Again, the probability of finding a player his caliber in the third round is very low.

In the Jerry Jones era, tagging a player has not once resulted in the player capitulating for a less than market value contract, and the last thing you want is a 28M tag number averaged into a contract of an ILB. The top of that position make 18-20M.
I don't expect him to capitulate. I expect him to eventually receive market value. I just wouldn't do it until we're sure of what we got. Once reason the Joneses abandoned free agency is because they didn't feel they were getting what they paid for. A way to avoid that is by bringing in a player like this and find out what you are getting before paying for it. The tag is just a tool if they can't get a deal done before the free agency deadline next year.

I don’t think his age will be a factor either. The only thing I think that may diminish his value is that he only has one year left on his contract. Otherwise he is absolutely worth a third.

I don't know how much teams worry about the contract. Dallas gets him for cheap this year ($8 million), which I think this front office loves more than additional years on the deal. We traded for Pickens with one year left on his contract. The Rams traded for Trent McDuffie with one year left on his contract (and then gave him a new deal).

Now, if he had four years on his contract and was coming off a first-team All-Pro season, then I don't think Miami would be considering trading him and especially not for anything below a second-round pick.

Is Brooks actually on the trading block? If he is, then I think we would have heard more about other teams interests in him. So maybe there is something holding them back. Possibly waiting until after the draft?

There seems to be a lot of smoke around it, but I can't say for something. They could wait until the draft to see if they want to trade him with a specific draft target in mind. However, draft picks tend to have greater value when the draft is taking place. So for instance, if the Dolphins had someone they wanted in the third round, they might trade Brooks for that opportunity.

Again, you are off base. Perhaps it is your reading comprehension that is the problem here. Where did I say my opinions were facts? Try reading what is actually written. I said I gave facts and you can go read them again because if you don't think being an All Pro or the number of tackles consitutute facts then it is a reading comprehension issue. I also didn't even say what for sure his value was so I'm not sure how you come to "as much as you think". Perhaps when you are the only one (or two) thinking a 5th is good value it's a sign you should rethink your position. Have you ever even watched him? Do you understand how good of a player he is?

The rest of your post is drivel that just proves you have no point. Why do you think they will only get a 5th round pick in return? Here is your chance. Give me some facts or an argument to prove your case.

You provided past examples, which are not facts and do not apply to this particular situation. You do not have any insight at all to what the trade compensation will involve.

And don’t use the lane argument that I think he’ll be traded for a fifth. That was someone else’s opinion. I don’t think it’ll be that low but it’s possible regardless of what you think. That’s what opinions are and your’s are no more valid than anyone else’s.

so
1) it is a reading comprehension issue because I what I gave are absolutely facts unless you think they are incorrect. It is a fact he was an All Pro. It was a fact how many tackles he had. Did you eat paint chips as a kid? Do you know what a fact is?

2) Thanks for at least admitting you are just arguing to argue and that you yourself don't even agree with idea of him going for a 5th rounder or less. Save us all some time and just stop whining next time unless you have an actual point

You must have eaten paint chips if you think that your facts mean anything. Those are considerations that other trans may or may not use as their criteria. The dolphins would definitely try to use them to their advantage. There are other factors to consider besides the ones you provided. Stop being dumb and calling others dumb. That’s the main point. You may not be the sharpest tool in the shed as you think you are.

There only free agent at this guys level was Devin Lloyd and he signed for 3 yrs, 42m
Alex Singleton, Leo Chenal, Devin Bush, Quincy Williams, and a few others were all available, yet we didn’t even seem to consider them. Instead, it felt like the front office was locked in on Nakobi Dean and maybe Quay Walker. If those were truly the players they wanted, they could have tried to trade for them.

What’s worse is that Dean and Walker chose the Raiders over Dallas. That says a lot about how far we’ve fallen as a free‑agency destination, as we tend to lowball players and don’t appear serious about being a championship team.

At this point, we’ve signed no one. Any of the linebackers I mentioned would have been a clear upgrade and helped address our LB issues.

29 years old LB big pass!! Data can be provided for Stephen Jones that shows the decline in linebackers after age 29, so no thanks!! Maxx Crosby is about to be 29 also, not sure why all the Cowboys fans want a bunch of super old guys to help out a defense that got torched!

Draft young players on defense, pretty simple!
Jerry and Stephen are terrible at judging NFL talent and have no feel for what the team needs. Just because you’re a billionaire doesn’t mean you’re qualified to be an NFL GM. They both suffer from delusions of grandeur and have surrounded themselves with “yes-men” who stroke their egos as football professionals.

Well, none of those players you named are on the level of Brooks except, maybe, Lloyd.

I totally agree that the cowboys suck at free agency but if they somehow land Brooks, then it makes those other LBs irrelevant.

Agreed. And Lloyd has been a bit hit and miss. Brooks seems to be consistently solid.
