Stephen: Nobody has called interested in trading for Pickens

These teams are all looking for a WR1 or WR2

Titans - $63m (no #1)
Commanders - $50m (no #1)
Jets - $40m (Wilson may be a #1)
Patriots - $35m (no #1)
Ravens - $30m (Zay may be a #1)
Maybe the Titans and Commanders.

The others...not much cap left.

he likely wants more $$ than CD.

which isnt going to happen.

only choice was tag him.

but he wont sign the tag, which means he can block a trade if he doesnt like a team.

no team is gonna want that 27M cap hit. how many teams actually have that much free cap at this time?

so the draft will likely come and go, then we roll into July.
27? We only wish. He wants 45. That's why no one will trade for him.

The teams who are generally contending for the super bowl know that you cannot pay a WR that large of a percentage of the cap. If we do pay him, I'm thinking it will become another contract we regret.

Not a surprise. Draft Day is still a week away.

And possibly a better chance of him getting traded post draft than pre-draft.

Bottom line - he isn't getting traded and other teams know it.
This draft has some WR’s so that’s one part. He’s gonna be expensive and he hasn’t really showed he’s not still a disruptive player. He’s super talented but he’s not always in the right head space

You make excellent points, but Pickens clearly loves being a Cowboy, he is in a place where he feels wanted and appreciated, and his rapport with Dak and CeeDee is undeniable.

Pickens will make a lot of money no matter where he goes. But a part of me thinks he will lean towards taking the Cowboys' offer- whatever and whenever that is- instead of risking putting himself into another Pittsburgh situation all over again.
He did not have a choice regarding playing for Pittsburgh or Dallas. The Cowboys have already stepped up to make CeeDee feel “wanted and appreciated”. Lord knows they made Dak feel that way.

They franchise tagged Pickens. That’s not wanted and appreciated. The Steelers are a better team on the field than the Cowboys with and without George Pickens. At this point he has to be wondering how he can get to the Rams, or Niners, or even Ravens. And away from teams like Dallas and Pittsburgh and their somewhat less than bold ownership.

Pickens' cap hit will be around $25m with an extension, even if it hits $40m AAV (Chase is $26m).

Between existing cap space and potential moves and the fact that teams could always structure the deal to be even lower, probably more than half the league could afford him if they wanted to .

He could work out a new deal if he is traded.

Not sure what the deadline is on that. But the cap hit, 27M, plus the 2 1st round picks, is too steep.

no one is gonna take the bait.

Note: July 15 deadline

Don’t forget. These teams had so much cap room to begin with that they didn’t have to do a half dozen restructures just to be able to accommodate their draft class

I’m sure they could all easily come up with $20m

Exactly or just structure the deal to be backend heavy with a high contract guarantee just like GB did with Parsons.

Wait….how does HE know??

I thought Jerry runs the team. Please advise…..

Last year half the league wishes they had traded a third for Pickens. It’s one of the few times Jerry has actually beaten other GMs at anything.
Well. I'm sure some teams would have traded a 4th for his services for just 1 year (SB contenders).... but it's looking like nobody wants to fork over major capital for him, for obvious reasons, as evidenced by the fact that nobody is making offers
.

Exactly what I thought when Dallas acquired him last year. They weren’t close enough to make a deal like that. Now you’ve bought yourself a contract dilemma, even if Pickens is being good about it, publicly anyway.

I got ripped for not liking getting a player that was a clear improvement. I like Pickens, I just don’t think this team was in a position to be dealing premium picks in a ‘win now’ type move. They ended 7-10 with a fully healthy QB, even though GP had some pretty gaudy stats.

For me it was only further proof that these two have zero clue how to build a winner. I can think of at least a dozen people around here alone that could offer better decision making in general than the ones who actually make those calls. Frustrating.

Anyone that finds this surprising is baffling to me. No one wanted this guy for even a 3rd last year. He's not going anywhere

Parsons didn't have new contract. Got traded with the agreement that he would be resigned. That's the way it works.
Micah Parsons was under contract. Someone gave up two firsts.

Perfect example of things that don't apply (the contract, the trade value) that work against a PIckens trade lol

He didn’t cost much last year and we can easily recoup the 3rd round pick we used, even if we don’t re-sign him. How was that a bad thing? Except for maybe helping us get a better record.

Ok gotcha, but what did having him last year do? Got us to 7-10. A loss or two away from being able to be able to grab a Styles or the LSU CB.

Never good enough, never bad enough.

Don’t get me wrong, I like Pickens and I want to keep him here, but the trade at the time didn’t add up for me given that status of the roster at the time.. That’s all.

Ask yourself this….if Pittsburgh didn’t trade him last year and Pickens was tagged by them, would you be all over the Joneses for not trading multiple picks for him while also giving him the bag?

I’m not going to deal with hypotheticals. We got him and we can at the very least recoup what we spent, even if it means getting a 2nd. I’m just wishing we sign him long term out trade him. I think we should be able to get one first but I’ll take a high 2nd. Unfortunately, at true moment, it seems that Jerry wants to keep Pickens on the tag but I hope not
