Nope. Teams can't trade for him because then he has all of the contract leverage and the price for an extension goes way up. Players do not get traded in this context, ever.

Contract control matters.

Doesn’t mean he and his agent haven’t spoken with other teams. I would think a team would want to get a basic idea of what a deal might look like before they start discussions with the Cowboys.

There are many examples of non exclusive tagged players being traded. Typically the acquiring team just works out the parameters of a deal and negotiates with the trading team on compensation. Once the trade is made, the player quickly signs the new contract. Offer sheets don’t happen much anymore because teams aren’t willing to give up 2 firsts as compensation.

Why in the hell would Jones put out a statement like this one????? This is a huge slap in Picken's face, and he might not show up until the season starts, and even then, he may not be in the best of shape to have the same year he had last season. a pissed off Pickens could also turn out to be a cancer on the team.

If I follow the hypothetical sequence of events correctly, Pickens must first sign his franchise tag before any other interested party can even come into play.

So right now; since he hasnt signed that tag, negotiations are dead in the water.
Someone else had posted that no client of David Mulugheta had ever played on a franchise tag.
So that kinda caught my eye.

In my eyes It's basically back to replacing Micah with Pickens.
Smith-Ngigba signed for 41 per.

So with that said what are the Cowboys willing to pay Dak, Lamb AND Pickens?
The same question arose when it was Micah.
