The fact that the Cowboys have not had a winning season since Dak signed his historic deal may make it a harbinger of NFL QB deals going forward. Better quarterbacks may sign for more guaranteed compensation, but the $60 million AAV could very well stand as “a bridge too far”.

And since Dak signed his deal the two QB1s that won Super Bowls are not paid $60 million per year and are also not considered future Hall of Famers. It’s been 19 months Prescott has held the top spot. I suspect it will be many, many more.

Some teams have defenses that are better than their offenses, so they pour their resources into defense and try to be middle of the road on offense. We are the exact opposite. If Houston’s QB hadn’t regressed so much from his rookie season, they might be building around him instead.

I will never argue that Dak was overpaid. But to make it seem, not you necessarily, but comparing him to Rush or acting like he’s a bottom 10 QB isn’t reality.

Is Dak even in the same universe as Mahomes and Brady? I don’t believe Darnold and Hurts are. Dak is better than Hurts and Darnold, too. That doesn’t mean he can win a Super Bowl like two of the best QBs to ever play in the NFL.

Dak’s problem is the Cowboys are not in the same universe as the Chiefs and Patriots. If you’re going to pay your QB $60 million per year in the salary cap era you better know what the hell you’re doing. Jerry, doesn’t.

This is absolutely true, and IMO the QB position has become extremely overrated. I'd pay a QB top money if he is a true outlier at the position, but for 95% of guys I'd happily churn the position and trade a young QB for a draft haul rather than pay them $55m+ per season. With rule changes to the modern game playing QB is easier than ever (in ways)....defenders are limited in how they can hit you, they can't grab receivers pretty much at all, defenseless receiver rules give the QB less to worry about, etc. The discount veteran at half the price QB to keep the rest of your team intact is typically the way to go.

I think QBs are getting as much as they are these days because they help sell merch and season tickets....

Have you seen all the super bowls the bottom ten QBs have won like Mahomes and Brady? Yep, we should be looking for QBs as bad as them, definitely not top 10 QBs.

That is why the trading of Micah Parsons was Jerry Dumbo GM Jones Dumb. He could have signed Parsons and traded for both DTs they have now. That is how you content and keep contending for a Super Bowl.

Houston has 2 DE in the top 10 of DL salaries. Both are Pro Bowlers. Therefore you can pay to stay and pay to win.
