Stephen: We will not have contract talks with Pickens

Why announce this to the media?
Have you not watched how this franchise operates over the last 30 years, lol? They live for dysfunction, and fully and negatively buttress the feelings of their HC who claims culture is first and foremost important to a team. To somebody not familiar with the ownership of this team, they would think GP has signed his tag and will be traded before pick 12 tomorrow night.....or, for the person who wants to be positive, Jr has sent a message to the Giants that they better get their WR early......

link is missing, LOL

aint no drama from the front office. They are stating right now, IN APRIL that the Franchise Tag is the way it is going to be this year. No drama involved. They arent the first team to make a player play under the tag, and they wont be the last.
And how many of those franchise tags have been drama free? Some, but not many. The tag alone brings a bit of drama with it. Add in the history with Pickens agent and the fact that its the Cowboys and the drama gets turned up to 10. This isnt the same as tagging a Tony Pollard.

The tag is also horrible news for the Cowboys cap, but that's a different argument. IMO there is no reason that Pickens should be either traded or extended before the draft.

A true resolution is what avoids the drama, not Stephen Jones making a claim to the media. Was what Jerry/Stephen said last year about Micah all true? Nope. What about Lamb/Dak the year before? Not really. The words of Stephen Jones don't come with a lot of credibility.

That’s right. Micah parsons is now an overrated bum and horrible person who didn’t care about the team.

So I’ve heard.
Idk about that. Parsons is more honest than Pickens. I do know that. Pickens seems like a type who is about himself. In Dallas you are either about the team or Jerry. There is no room for selfishness

Something is up. The smoke from the Tyson workout and Stephen making that announcement. I can’t see Pickens playing on the tag with that statement. The Cowboys basically let everyone know they are open for business with a Pickens trade.
This just doesn’t make a lot of sense. Jerry has done some dumb stuff in the past, but why announce this so early in the offseason? Training camp is still 4 months away. Now Pickens has no incentive to sign it anytime before September, and has the option to wait until week 9 if he’s feeling petty, which he has the right to with a statement so belittling like this

Feign negotiations, say “whelp, too bad we couldn’t come to an agreement”, show him hospitality and let him down easy, then pull this stuff next offseason when you kick him to the curb. It almost seems intentionally insulting to proclaim this to the media today. I don’t remember a single time a team tagged a player and then turned around and said they refused to entertain a long term contract before negotiations even really got heavy. So Dallas tagged him because they don’t want him around after 2026 and just want to take the lump sum franchise tag cap hit right now? The window ends in December or they don’t like him as a fit anymore?

You realize GP has missed multiple meetings and been late multiple times right? He is the definition of selfish.

That seems crazy to say since they have until July 15th to get an extension done….unless:
  • It’s a negotiating ploy to get Mulugheta back to the table
  • It’s lining the team up to accept a trade for Pickens and then…
  • The Cowboys use one of their two first round picks to select a WR.
It could also mean nothing.

As a side note, I heard most of this press conference on the radio while driving and one thing that really stood out was Stephen was doing most of the talking. Even when Jerry talked he would check with SJ to make sure his statement was rightt.

Having Stephen Jones as GM scares me way more than JJ. At least Jerry earned his ownership through his own work. Stephen has earned nothing and he seems stingy, lazy and uninspiring.

Strange for them to come out and admit it this soon.

Either Pickens is asking for too much or they finally accepted it would be cheaper and smarter for them to pay him on franchise tag this year than sign him to a new contract.

Of course it is also possible Pickens' side decided they can make more money long term if they wait until 2027 for a new contract with the Cowboys or another team.
they're far too many George Pickens threads, but I'll say it again even though it's redundant and I'm losing valuable time,

There seems to be little interest at all ,if there have been no trade talks outside of their organization, meaning where are the other 31 teams, who can right now, try to negotiate with George Pickens, and there hasn't been a single story, no smoke means no fire.

If George Pickens and his people have decided not to seek a trade which also makes no sense, but it has to be from them, they must have informed everybody behind the scenes, that they don't want to make a move right now, because they can make more next year, I don't know.

Not been a single trade off from another team, there has been any stories made up or otherwise, normally with the Cowboys there are so many rumors, things get made up, and try to be made true, but not one offer from any team of be kind because, they can offer anything they don't have offer to 1st they have already started negotiations and came to the Cowboys and George and says this is what we're willing not or will you take it and , it's not one story in 4 weeks.

I'm with you I believe there must be something to it, it must be they have shot everyone down that's tried to call because if not, we'd have heard about it we hear about everything the Cowboys do...

This is strange though maybe and I'm also guessing the Cowboys may promised George that they would tag him again next year They make them a fair offer but he'll be a free agent next year and if he plays well and quietly under the tag this year, then they won't tag him twice..

This all sounds fishy. First saying nobody has called, then saying they won’t have contract talks.

I can’t imagine the rational for either statement without an ulterior motive.
They think he will play better on the tag.

LOL. Of course you are defending this.

What a shocker.

This is a WIN NOW move for sure.

I Agree. That exactly why I said. I’m all in on drafting lemon or Tyson at 12. Trade Pickens to the jets for pick 33. Draft jrod at 33. You got your linebacker plus he has that great Stache. Jerry will make millions marketing that stache
