Some post draft thoughts/opinions

Are we sure about that? Just my opinion…but I think it remains to be seen if Blue and Mafa have gained a vote of confidence. I certainly hope they have improved a lot. And we will surely see in due time.

But I also think it would not be a surprise to see us add some a RB or two before camp. And maybe more likely, picking up someone when final cuts are made in early September.
Watch the Cardinals. Maybe they cut Benson.

Where did you put the guy we got from San Francisco for the fifth round trade?
He's an inside LB. But I didn't put him there. This is ourlad's depth chart. They are fairly accurate. Miss sometimes.

-Notice outside of Lawrence and our receiver in the 7th rd, Cowboys took players from power conferences-Big10/SEC.

-I think the roster has too much youth at a few positions, would be wise to add a veteran or two. Not so much to become progress stoppers, but help with their development. Perfect world you bring along these players slowly rather than throw them in the fire before they are ready.

-Do believe by the end of camp, Downs is going to be wearing the green dot helmet. His football IQ is off the charts. Keep in mind OSU developed a defense around him not those other great players and he was the leading tackler as a freshman with Alabama.

-Big vote of confidence for our 2nd yr running backs in Mafah and Blue as they decided against drafting another back. The opposite for Schoon, Carson, Marist-all will be fighting to keep their roster spots.

-Think they did a good job to give them some options at key positions. For example, if they move on from a Steele or a Bland next offseason, they have options already in place while they develop this season.
The fact that we brought in a veteran and a draft pick at corner might be a shot across the bow for guys like Carson. Then again it might not be.

I would not be surprised if the Cowboys surprisingly moves on from a player like Bland. His injury may be more detrimental than we realize. Plus he has a high salary.

It won’t surprise me if Bland starts, but assuming things will sometimes cause you to not consider all options.

Kind of telling that the team didn't restructure his contract, even with the fully guaranteed salary this year.
Next year, his salary is only guaranteed for injury and becomes fully guaranteed on 3/27.
So, he bounces back, perfect, if not I think they release him before that salary becomes fully guaranteed.

We have veterans at every level of the D. No need for any more vets back there IMO. And Bobby Wagner is like Jason Witten. He’s not going anywhere unless he’s starting

I would look into signing a few veterans so these kids don't have to be thrown into the fire. Bobby Wagner for example would be an excellent addition as a bridge player. Player like Von Miller would be excellent to have around to help develop these young edge rushers. Jackson started for the Eagles last season and knows the scheme.
Barham is probably getting snaps as a chess piece, and is a Overshown hiccup away from starting. Not optimal imo. I think 2027 is a better expectation for him playing full time. Im not out on Shemar James, but I also think he is a year away (if he actually is developing) from being in consideration. A Bobby Wagner wouldn't be a bad idea

progress stopper is one of the most over used terms here

Not drafting a RB is an indication they either are comfortable with their backups or believe they can sign one in the fa market. Until that happens, if would think the latter.

I could see a vet inside LB but I think they only take 5 since their are only two spots and Dee Winters appears to be the vet they went with. Eagles kept five each of ILBs & OLBs as an example.

Basically the same thing as OLB/edge I think again they already have the five guys they go into the season with and Gary is the vet they chose. Wheat & Williams are good STs players.

I can certainly see a veteran push one of those late rd, undrafted fa’s off the roster

I agree with most of that but they've added veterans at every level... D winters at linebacker is a journeymen vet, It's not like they need a wide receiver they already have a lot of veterans in that room but scandaling He's a veteran, TE room, Lots of experience don't think they need help, I mean the defensive line has all kinds of veterans I mean guys at a play together like Gary Clark I mean Q is no spring chicken, Backs corners plenty of experience I think it's a healthy mix and outside of maybe trying to think of where you're at with this the linebacker group it's kind of full of youth but that's OK but yeah I think the only group that might be thin and need some help is bringing in a guy like Clowney at defensive end/OLB..

But I fully believe they might bring in a guy off the free agent linebacker list like Wagner, White, or Okereke.. No one really complained about the youth movement in 1991 and 92 when the Cowboys were building through the draft making some trades.. Sure what happened but people think they need to be full of veterans hell Washington was like AARP group over there...

Good thinking about it why I'm typing maybe the offensive line needs a veteran like we brought in Peters at one time but maybe for the tackle position I think the swing tackle should be a veteran even though the guy we just drafted can work his self in there that's the only place I would like to see a veteran a true Left tackle that can play a little right tackle but a veteran that maybe you can't depend on for 17 games but can do a five or six games if needed..

I don't know why they were doing that for Dan Quinn's first couple of seasons and now they've gone the other direction youth and health are very important I think the coaches should coach him up but I think there's enough veterans on this team..
Linebacker is a position that usually gets beaten up throughout the year, add in Overshown who has missed a ton of games and all they have is prospects behind them

You say that but the same list was there four weeks ago is still there it's relatively untouched this is what happens a couple of weeks before the draft and right after where they're trying to figure out needs and then those lists will start getting picked apart they have Wagner, Okereke, and White and by the way Devin White has ties to Parker If you're not looking for a guy to start 17 games with a nice veteran presence that you can rotate in emergency green dot guy at middle linebacker they're right there they've been there for almost four weeks or more nobody's touched that list because most of those guys don't want to go through all these early camps and stuff just like Clowney they usually come in late like right around training camp..
More can come available post draft and post June 1st

Bland is here this year, too expensive to move. However, they can get out of the contract in the coming years rather easily. Never restructured his deal

That’s why adding a corner made a ton of sense, gives them options moving forward

Fine with him starting and rotating Overshown and winters. Wagner at this point is probably more of a run down player anyway

Real good vet for the young prospects to learn from

Why would Jerry allow the Eagles to trade up to get Lemon? He purposely helped a division rival to get better. This is typical Jerry. He pulled the same thing that allowed the Eagles to land Devonte Smith. Jerry must be a fan of Roseman.

Downs is most likely the only rookie starter this year.
Everyone else will compete to be part of a rotation. Players like Lawrence and Barham will be used in spot duty based on what they can do well right away while developing other areas of their games.

Lots of experience on the interior DL.
Gary, Eze, Houston, and Williams at OLB/edge.
Winters and Overshown at ILB, possibly an additional vet and James behind them.
CBs from the group of Bland, Bryant, Revel, Butler, etc.
Downs and Thompson at S with depth.

The rookies will fit in perfectly and used to their strengths in spots. We don’t need any of them to start besides Downs.

If I was going to look at any other vets available, I’d consider a LB in case of injury, and I’d consider bringing in another vet at DT.

I might consider a vet OT, but I don’t worry too much about our OTs as Dak has proven he can operate effectively when they break down as long as the guys up the middle stand strong. This is a rebuilding year that will hopefully result in a playoff birth, maybe even a victory. 2027 should be all about fine tuning in free agency and truly making a serious run.

Because it made us better. You can’t worry about what other teams do. Lemon may have still been there at 23 as some teams soured on his attitude in interviews. But it gave us 2 fourth round picks. It was all about making us better.
