Van Halen was transcendent for me.

Just flat out epic

I saw them every chance I got. Included the DLR and Sammy days.

Btw, Alex is underappreciated as a drummer by some to this day, which astounds me.

Alex was an excellent drummer.

Saw them 7 times including the US festival show, 3 with Dave and 3 with Sammy. Love both versions of the band

One of my favorite bands. But for some reason, not sure why, I have always considered them a 'summer band'. As soon as the warm weather hits, I'll put the car windows down and blast some VH. But I rarely listen to them in the winter.

I remember outside on a summer day, washing the car in the drive way and playing Van Halen 5150 album. Such a simple day but such a good day.

I hate when people argue about van halen with sammy or dlr. Both gave us great music. You got the classics with dave but Sammy and the guys actually did better in the charts. Guess Eddie was right about more keyboards. Eddie also hated doing too many cover songs like DLR wanted.

But Either way I like both versions. Both have great songs and great guitars.

Oh...love Sammy when he was with Montrose.

I would agree with every bit of this. This is the band of my childhood loved them. I actually love both singers.

My wife just got done reading the Sammy Hagar biography. She said it was excellent.

Sammy really is a marvel IMO.
He still sounds pretty good live with chickenfoot and various things he does on the web. DLR on the other hand, his voice is just shot now.

Also the good part of DLR leaving Van Halen was his first few solo records with Steve Vai that they had some of the funnest videos. I'll take a doughnut ...and a bottle of anything....to GOOOO

And I think Eddie Van Halen lost his money after that and approached Sammy Hagar about a reunion tour because he needed the cash. Sammy did not. I think he did it for him now..
By the way, I think this is the most underrated song of that era;

That whole album was good.
I liked Get up and Summer nights...really enjoy the harder guitar riffs.
But it is hard to beat Dreams.
