Will the Cowboys make a substantial post June 1st move?

I believe they need linebacker talent
Brooks maybe?
Wagner?
It's not that I don't believe we need talent, its just that I am not sure they will spend what they need to get it, at least not in a trade. Do you think the Dolphins will let Brooks go for a 6th? Do you think we will give up a 3rd? Maybe, but not sure. We won't be the only team in on him, so who knows what they get if he is made available. Not having a 4th or 5th here could come back to haunt them.

Wagner could make some sense, but he was available a long time ago (not the June 1st date that this thread is about). Unless he is waiting and the team knows it, there doesn't seem to be much movement on our end, we could have signed him months ago.

Again, I could be wrong (and hope I am).

It's not that they are released after June 1, its that teams don't want to sign players before June 1 because of the comp pick formula.
"Comp pick formula" ends at 4:00pm on the Monday following the draft my friend. It's not a June 1st thing. As of April 27th, 2026 (4:00pm est), no player you sign affects what you are going to get next year in comps. Been this way for quite a few years.

June 1st used to be the day you could cut players and spread the hit out over two seasons. Now that you can designate players ahead of time, it's not quite the day it used to be (on the transaction wire).

I doubt they do anything until camp. Stephen thinks team building is complete at this time of year so barring an injury or 2 they won't look to sign anyone.
This is a coaches team now, not Stevens

More players are expected to become available as teams received June 1st cap savings. Cowboys should be on the lookout for:

-Linebacker
-Edge
-Tackle
-Corner

This is when the price comes down for players looking to lock onto a roster for training camp. There will be some quality veterans available who can help.
Jones boys will be likely be looking for some discounts.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Malike Hooker cut, but other than that I don't know that you'll see any surprise other moves or signings.

Coaches sign players now? Didn't realize the front office gave that up in the NFL. Good to know.

Until Steve says yes and offers a contract it doesn't matter what the coaches want. If it did we would have upped our offer on one of the LBs for sure.

Do the coaches have more imput? Sure. Absolutely. But make no mistake about who has to agree to sign a player.

They have added pieces before, Griffen was one of them although he didn't work out.
It's not impossible. But they have a lot of young players and i'm going to bet they will want to see them in some live practices before they pull the trigger on someone similar. Now if the right player were to be available sure maybe they pull the trigger but they aren't getting into a bidding war either.

That’s how they signed Clowney last season post camp as they gave their prospects many reps to evaluate them

Not trying to rain on this, but how many meaningful players are actually released on or after June 1st since the NFL allowed teams to designate two releases ahead of the actual date? June 1st isn't like it used to be because of this (IMHO of course).

Trades I can see, because you cannot designate a traded player as June 1st. But I am not sure they would be willing to trade a 3rd or higher and they don't own a 4th or 5th at this time (Gary and Pickens trades).

Could be wrong, but unless they are willing to part with a 3rd, not sure anyone worth much can be had for a 6th.
With a team as young as we are, a veteran has a chance to make a large impact in the right situation. Just look what Clowney did last season, is possible to land such a player

Consider this: Ogbonnia and Bullard combined for 5 pressures last year. Clark has played close to 80% of the snaps before, but he is too old for that now. Williams has never even hit 70%. I think a 3rd interior rusher is a sneaky need. Clark and Williams will get worn out if dont get some passing game rest snaps

Nobody is giving up Oline. So people can forget about that. I think we need to let things play out at DB. Plenty of bodies. Just have to hope a couple step up

Edge wont be in play unless someone goes down.

RB would be a typical move by the front office. But who cares really.
So yeah. LB would be it. A green dot guy. Just not holding my breath.

You shouldnt either.

We have to remember it is a different scheme with different responsibilities for the front. They want to be able to play that light box and load up with extra defensive backs on the field.
