Trey Wingo hints at Aaron Donald returning to Rams

Would be fun, but it’s worth noting Donald is 35 and has been out of football for two years.

Not sure he would be the same guy.
Agreed, but even if he's 75%-80% he'll still be a good player. Everyone ages differently but if Campbell can do it at 39, I'm sure Donald can still go too if he can stay healthy. Would be interesting to see him back, even if it does sound like a longer shot.

Two full years on the couch, and stating he was burned out. I am sure he will be better than a majority of the players in the NFL but 2 years is a long lay-off. Body is no where near ready to take that abuse especially if a month ago he was content in retirement.

You’re right. If we call them the Lambs that will prevent them from being one of the best teams in the league.
Good to know you're crowning them.

Nobody scared of washed up Arron Donald. The 2 Tyler's would destroy him.

Yup.

He was already mentally checked out.

The retirement off- switch is for real.

But he might be bored and missing the locker room.

Well, if he returns, there's only one way to stop the Rams. Go hard after the Stafford.......in other words, I'm telling my defense to ring his bell every chance they get. Those hits will add up by mid- to late season.

Warner was the backup though. Trent Green whom they had acquired to be the starter was injured in preseason. So yes, Warner started every game but he would not have if Green hadn't gotten injured prior to season beginning.

Certainly, no team would like to lose their starting QB ... but they have triumphed more than you would think. 7 out of 60 Superbowls is 11.6%. I was originally only remembering 3-4 times until I started researching.

This doesn't count how many times a backup has been able to make a playoff run or get to the SB & lose. I didn't do that research. My takeaway is that is good reason to put a lot of effort into your backup QB. The right teams with the right backup can still be very successful.
Sure, it's great to have a good backup and a lot of teams do. No argument on that. On many teams like the 2017 Eagles, there wasn't much difference in talent between the starter and back-up. So, there was no drop off when Wentz went down. The Rams were no favorite to win anything with Green. Warner took them to whole other level that was not expected. So, the Ram was a case of addition by subtraction as the backup (Warner) was actually the better QB.

The 2026 Rams have a rookie first round pick at backup. That's more than most. But, when your starter is a future HOFer , obviously there is going to be a drop off. Not many teams throughout history have had 2 HOF QBs on the roster at once. I can think of Montana/Young and Rodgers/Farvre off the top of my head.
