  • There have been multiple “approaches”. But there has been one GM in charge of all of them, and the results haven’t changed.
  • When was the last time the Cowboys took a calculated major risk with a trade to “go for it”? The Parsons trade was a last minute desperate reactive move because of poor planning. It may pay some dividends - we did get some really good players because of it. But it will take longer than this season to know its value.
  • When was the last time we hired a GREAT coach and let him cook? Twenty three years ago with Bill Parcells. Mike McCarthy was a good coach. But he was never “fully in charge”. No HC here has been since Jimmy left.
Yes we’ve tried several approaches. But we’ve never tried hiring a real GM that knows what they’re doing.

Add to this that they are still planning for the future by drafting a QB in the 1st round with the league MVP on their roster!

  • By making the move in the spring, both the rams and the browns have those players in place for all remaining OTAs, mini-camps, training camp, etc. (Unlike a week before the season…if you know what I mean)
  • The rams have shown they are willing to take a big risk WHEN THEY ARE CLOSE TO WINNING IT ALL. Last year the rams were really close to making the SB, losing to the eventual champs, the Seahawks 31-27 in the NFC championship. It was clear they needed a better pass rush. And they got it.
  • Now the rams have to be considered the NFC favorite going into 2026. They are (on paper) what appears to be a much better football team.
In short, the rams GM saw last year that if they didn’t “go for it” and make a big move, they would likely not be better in 2026.

And for everyone saying the rams are “mortgaging their future” by doing this - they have already done this in 2021, and have a Lombardi to show for it. No guarantees this trade will translate to a SB win, but it is a lot more likely now than it was last year.

When the Cowboys say they are not willing to take risks like this with draft capital to “go for it”, then they might as well say, “We’re just hoping we’re going to catch lightening in a bottle”. Les Snead is saying, “Hold my beer while we GRAB that bottle”.

Low risk, low reward.

And here’s the rams playoff record under Les Snead since he took over in 2017:
  • 10-6, 2 NFC championships in 3 appearnces, and 1 Lombardi.
  • Cowboys in that same period: 2-4 with a ton more draft picks and “financial responsibility”.

I am numb at this point.
Jerry has just worn me down.
I expect nothing and get it year after year.
30 years and counting.
Maybe someday in the future we can talk about being close to a Super Bowl
As long as Jerry is in charge it just isn’t going to happen.
 
No matter how many times we complain, the Jones family will do the Jones thing. Comparing him with other GM’s is futile. Only for information purposes does any of these posts matter.
 
The lightning metaphor doesn't really work here.

Lightning most certainly does strike twice when one puts up a lightning rod, as the Rams do.

The lightning metaphor actually applies more to the Cowboys. Lightning struck in the 90's but has never struck again in the barren flatlands of the Jones' world.

Maybe if the Jones went all in and erected a lightning rod, like the Rams did, the chances of lighting striking again would improve.

I think you’re confusing my comments with defending Jerry. I’m not. Just pointing out that the rosy defense and picking and choosing the so called good GMs is way too vague and too rosy. Only five teams have won the Super Bowl the last 10 years.

Yep. Lightning does strike the same spot but the odds are that any one person will be struck twice are extremely low. Jerry was obviously lucky to be around in the 90s...the only lightning he sees will be emitting from his mangled, decrepit fingers...

It is absolutely mind blowing how some here can still defend and try to rationalize everything Jerry is doing to this team. Living in their own delusion. Those are the people who deserve 30 more years of Jerry in their life. Spare those of us who have awoken from this horrific experience.

Lightning is the Giants going on that legendary run in 2007. This is putting yourself in position to be the top dog in your conference. On paper, they now are. I'd rather take shots again than say it's too much to try. They were literally so close without this extra gamble a year ago so they aren't coming off a 5-12 year. Can't imagine who'd be poo-pooing this move.

I would’ve poo pood on it. It’s not how you win in this league. Trading firsts are moronic. I don’t believe a team is ever one player away. Packers made the same mistake last year. Thinking they were a Micah away when their secondary was suspect at best.

We literally just saw the Pats and Seahawks in the SB. Not one team made an all in move or have a player as good as Garrett.

My point isn’t that Rams can’t win with Garrett. My point is, they may win even without the Garrett trade. We just don’t know.
