We have a new coach for the defense and obviously he will be the leader off the field.

But who was going to be the force on the field that galvanizes this group together and makes them want to walk through the fire in tough moments.

Leroy Jordan Randy White Charles Haley.
Who do we have on this current roster with the talent and personality to motivate these players on the field when things get tough.

At this point I got nothing nobody's even been a cowboy very long to have established any type of presence.

I think it's important to have a leader on the field just not sure who's going to step up and do it.

Completely opposite of the offense, the defense will feature 5 or 6 new starters. With just a few holdovers from last year, the chances are it will be someone who wasn't a Cowboy a few months ago. It could be Gary. Or the rook? Downs looks to be an alpha already on D. We may have to wait and one will emerge in the regular season.

I think it will be Downs.

Right now? Tough one, Q or Thompson or Gary, I guess. Overshown maybe if he can shake the injury bug.

whoever has the mindset of beat the offense down and kick em when theyre down

Downs seems perfect for the role, and I think any player with the right attitude will follow his example.

It's Q right now. I know Downs is the popular pick and all but he hasn't proven anything yet and will be looking to keep his name out of the bust column coming in because the NFL is a step up from what he knows. I think it's also kinda problematic if you're looking to a rookie to lead guys who've been here for years. He needs to get his chinstrap wet.

Q. Williams can be more of a silent leader, do as I do type of work ethic and how to play the game type role
Q has been a vocal leader when they're out there. There was a Sounds of the Sidelines episode where he's trying to coach up EZ on a play that I think EZ thought was satisfactory but Q was trying to show him how it could have been better. EZ didn't seem to acknowledge it all that much which made me wonder about him.

We are all hopeful and expect that our defense will be better this year.
I think we have added some ingredients to make the defense better we changed the coach and as we all know without a great defensive coordinator it's next to impossible to have a great defense.

That said I can't think of any great defenses that didn't have vocal standout leaders and I'm sorry guys but I just don't see anybody maybe somebody will emerge in training camp.

This defense needs a Ray Lewis Leroy Jordan Charles Haley Jack Lambert Mike singletary Ronnie Lott Lawrence Taylor.

We need a flat out take no prisoners kill them all let God sort them out leader to galvanize this defense.

The rookie Downs could evolve into a leader but he doesn't have the credentials yet.

I can't think of anybody we have that comes from a successful winning atmosphere that can bring what we need.

It's a problem I think to be the best defense we can be we need at least one on field leader two or three would be better.
