Brian Schottenheimer: It's An Open Competition Across the Roster whole PC

I know a lot of yiu dont like and didnt like the hiring, but maybe hes really cut out to be the leader to get this team to a better spot.

Still too early to tell but the coaching staff absolutely looks better overall than I can recall in a while.

Has to translate to the field or its juat hot air

They weren’t/wouldn’t/couldn’t give him a chance before his first day as HC. Reasonable folks, non-haters, took a wait and see attitude like everything else the team does.

Yeah its tough when it was so bad for so long, and on paper there were certainly better options and more seasoned options - however I really like how he has assembled his staff and that he had the guts to redo basically the entire defensive staff in one offseason.

It will be real interesting if a low salary new player outperforms a high salary veteran during camp.
Is Jerry going to interfere?
You know he hates to pay big bucks to players to ride the bench.

Yes yes it is It's crazy how some threads are calling out certain players saying their jobs are on the line that's not what's happening They're being pushed by players right behind them And that's how it should be there aren't very many locked up positions on this team nor should there be it should always be an open competition unless it's clear like a guy like Prescott's not losing his job to any of his backups..

There are maybe 11 players on this team that are locked in Other than that I'd love to see guys start to sweat a bit about their job so they practice harder get in the gym more you know focus more in games...

Look I know you're excited about this kid and we all are happy he's on our defense but this isn't ever about one player it's about the whole team See your North Texas it will never be just about one player because we've had those in Demarcus Ware and also more recently Parsons and whatnot..

Problem is you can't have a top heavy team with not enough depth and then when you start having injuries you just don't look good at all because it doesn't matter how good those 11 great players are on your team It's the other 42 players on the team that you need to have better talent at all across the board...

When you have these single point failures where you're paying these guys a lot of money and you're expecting them to help you win games and when they get neutralized or hurt it's almost an automatic lost season..

See them build with a lot more depth similar to what Seattle did especially on defense not anybody with double digit sacks and they still are one of the best defenses in the league You don't need to have a giant trade for a guy like Garrett I mean the Rams are taking a big risk and hey kudos to them from taking a risk but what happens if he gets hurt in Game 4 and it's out six games or maybe for the season sort of like Parsons did with Green Bay It hurt them a lot because they were counting on one guy to lead them to the promised land on defense and when he dropped out the rest of the team seemed to have a big let down because they were all thinking the same thing one player one name no that's not how it works.

No even New England was more about depth across the entire team versus being full of expensive top heavy players who are very good they're great players they deserve the money and like I said Garrett probably worth the risk, Let's not take it lightly it is a huge risk You just put all your eggs in one basket and said this is it we're all in for this year but if that player doesn't live up to expectations gets hurt or finds a way to be neutralized well that is something that's I don't want to see here we've had that too often I want to see the other way I want to see more players involved more rotations more competition etc

Hope Downs turns into a superstar I hope he's the next Eric Berry or whoever you want people are saying he could be Ed Reed That's great but I want to see the rest of the team play better I also know that one guy can't wear the green dots so they're talking about over shown but I think also winters and downs they all need to share the responsibility they need to practice like they're going to be the ones wearing the green dot because players get hurt players get rotated out there needs to be multiple leaders on the team not just one...

That’s not true. Sometimes it’s frustrating when people make up their own version of events. The Cowboys never set out to hire Brian Schottenheimer as head coach. They gave him a respectful interview, and while they were impressed in the first round, they still weren’t convinced. So they did their due diligence—talking to everyone he had worked with, including players he coached—and ended up even more impressed than when they originally brought him on as an assistant a few years back. After a second interview, they were sold. They didn’t just hand the job to an inexperienced coach to save money or avoid hiring others.

I’ll say this one last time: there were some coaches the overly optimistic fan base thought we had a chance at, and that Jerry Jones supposedly should’ve interviewed, but they were never coming here. Vrabel and Ben Johnson were always going where they ended up,

it was a done deal long before it happened. Any other interviews or talk about being open to them were just for appearances.

In hindsight, Bill Belichick, Glenn, and Pete Carroll weren’t all that impressive, so cross them off the list. That would leave Brian Schottenheimer in the mix against someone like Liam Cohen, who was just as green and unknown, maybe even less so, since Schottenheimer has the name recognition of his dad, a Super Bowl appearance, and a track record as an offensive coordinator with Russell Wilson’s best three years and top league rankings in some categories. Then there’s a very inexperienced Kellen Moore, who honestly wanted him back?

I’m missing someone, but looking back at the coaching pool that season, it really seemed to come out of nowhere. It wasn’t because they were lazy or cheap, that bad narrative just isn’t true. They were blown away in an interview, which is exactly what’s supposed to happen. The interview was so strong they immediately put you at the top of the list, dug deeper, brought you back for another round to clarify, and were completely impressed again, leading to the hire.

Last year, one of the worst defensive coordinators and defenses to ever take the field actually did an admirable job. I don’t think even Ben Johnson or Aaron Glenn, oh yeah, I forgot about him, could’ve done as well with the Jets either. The real options were Aaron Glenn, Kellen Moore, and Cohen, and in hindsight, they were probably the only ones who could’ve truly challenged Brian Schottenheimer in that hiring pool.

In my opinion, Brian Schottenheimer earned the job,

it wasn’t a lazy hire made just to avoid more interviews. I think they saw what I saw and didn’t find a big gap between him and the other candidates, especially once you take Ben Johnson and Vrabel out of the mix. Looking at what he did last year, it wasn’t a bad hire. I like him,

he’s growing, still has a lot to learn, but seems to be handling the pressure from the Cowboys’ front office, the fan base, and the intense media attention that comes with the job. For a first-timer, I thought he managed it really well, especially considering he was coaching with one hand tied behind his back and that hand was named Matt Eberflus.

If that's the case, why did Eberflus last so long? Because Jerry didn't want to fire him.
