Brian Schottenheimer: It's An Open Competition Across the Roster whole PC

Pete Carroll did this on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Cant remember which. Encouraged active competition at certain positions if there wasn't already a firmly established entrenched starter at the position.

I believe he kinda discovered his 3rd round QB Wilson that way even after having paid Matt Flynn a decent free agent contract from GB to come be the QB while Wilson learned. As it turned out, Wilson was simply the better player and won the job outright as a rookie.

See them build with a lot more depth similar to what Seattle did especially on defense not anybody with double digit sacks and they still are one of the best defenses in the league You don't need to have a giant trade for a guy like Garrett I mean the Rams are taking a big risk and hey kudos to them from taking a risk but what happens if he gets hurt in Game 4 and it's out six games or maybe for the season sort of like Parsons did with Green Bay It hurt them a lot because they were counting on one guy to lead them to the promised land on defense and when he dropped out the rest of the team seemed to have a big let down because they were all thinking the same thing one player one name no that's not how it works.

No even New England was more about depth across the entire team versus being full of expensive top heavy players who are very good they're great players they deserve the money and like I said Garrett probably worth the risk, Let's not take it lightly it is a huge risk You just put all your eggs in one basket and said this is it we're all in for this year but if that player doesn't live up to expectations gets hurt or finds a way to be neutralized well that is something that's I don't want to see here we've had that too often I want to see the other way I want to see more players involved more rotations more competition etc

Hope Downs turns into a superstar I hope he's the next Eric Berry or whoever you want people are saying he could be Ed Reed That's great but I want to see the rest of the team play better I also know that one guy can't wear the green dots so they're talking about over shown but I think also winters and downs they all need to share the responsibility they need to practice like they're going to be the ones wearing the green dot because players get hurt players get rotated out there needs to be multiple leaders on the team not just one...

The top heavy thing is kind of baloney. Teams with recent success generally have had similar top heavy rosters. Seattle is pretty much the exception…but now a bunch of their players have got paid.

The Rams are paying big money to Stafford and Adams, will have to pony up for Puka, just paid Karen Williams, signed big money free agents and traded for Garrett. Very top heavy and they are the favorites this year. The Eagles had a lot of top money guys when they won the Super Bowl. The Pats spent a ton of money on free agency to get better quickly. Denver is mostly building from a young team without a ton of high priced players. Jacksonville building on a similar fashion.

There isn’t one way that works for everyone. In Dallas case, with the huge money being paid to Dak, and Lamb, and Pickens…we have to have some of the young, cheap players to become huge contributors. Ezeraiku, Lawrence, Downs, and Overshown all have to produce at a high level. Booker has to be even better and Guyton has to make a big leap.

I think we found a good HC and like the direction of the team

Most coaches who preach accountablity would have fired him.

Instead of going to the public saying and i quote "hes really trying guys."

You must really be some A level leader with your mentality.

What happens in a platoon if someone is so detrimental they are endangering lives? Do you tell you CO that "hes trying" or do you get rid of him?

Ill wait for your response because there is only one right answer.

Difference is you will have to admit the HC doesn't have the power and admit that your "accountability" comment is a farce. So you wont.

My only hope for now is that cap boy doesn’t realize that we can get away with playing only ten on defense and still be fine as long as Caleb is in the game.

It's not blasphemy it's the how come all these top pass rushers that we've talked about in our threads not winning in the playoffs they're not elevating their whole defense or their whole team just getting good numbers in the regular season isn't that what we rip our own quarterback and other players for doing SAT padding because in the real games the big games they are not coming through where they're being neutralized or a lot of tensions paid to them their teams are not winning most of them are not we're talking about Matt Crosby and Garrett with the Browns pardons with the Cowboys and TJ what I mean didn't he lose like four or 5 straight playoff games even when he was there that's something great coach great pass rusher never got anywhere in the playoffs.

You can't always just be top head You need all living guys You do need your stars but more importantly you need other guys are treating other than them not just when attention is paid to them. You should be producing whether it's only five or six sacks if you can get that from 10 or 12 guys that is how you build the defense It worked it this is a league about blueprints new England and Seattle both got there the same way they didn't have a single player with double digit sacks, They just were good top to bottom and the depth they rotated in was really good....

Wasn’t with me. I thought Parsons was a Jaylon Smith clone without the drop foot. That’s what most reports said about him. Just after the draft Jerry said we may have gotten the best pass rusher in this draft, which I blew off as usual Jerry crap.

Exactly what I mean. Caleb can play his position, and also back up several others. So the depth is fine either way. Say, if like three other starters go down, they can just play with eight. He is that good and it’s clear. Not disputable.

lmao Man you're overselling that bro it's OK though We all hope he's going to become the next Ed Reed or something close like Eric Berry but let's tone it down a bit this man is not going to be the next defensive version of BO Jackson , BO knows,.. The one thing I want him to do seriously no special teams I don't see what that can do anything but put too much wear and tear on him and expose him to injury talking about how he's practicing on special teams yeah he's practicing there but in real games full speed real heating going on no he just needs to remain on defense and just because he can play a lot of positions don't mean he doesn't need to breathe and that means lots of guys light winters and overshone and him need to share the Green dot duties..
