The 3-4 defense concept was based completely on the element of surprise. I'm not saying that Parker intends to be a strict, classic 3-4 DC.

However, I'm sure he intends to use that key element often.

The key element, of course, is that three D-linemen are typically going to rush on a pass play. These 3-4 lineman are built mostly to defend the run. The DEs are built just like the 4-3 DTs and the NT is basically there to get in the way.

The real pass rush in the 3-4 comes from the "mystery" pass rusher....theoretically.

It could be the OLB but not always. It can be a safety. It can even be a CB. The offense doesn't know where he is coming from....theoretically.

I say theoretically because the Phillips 3-4 is not like that. It is basically a 4-3 with a D-lineman out of position. Everybody knew who was rushing the passer.

Of course, on 3rd and long or other critical play, a real blitz can come from two mystery pass rushers. In a 4-3 that is just one extra guy for the O-line to look out for but in a 3-4?

When Parcells was coaching the Giants, a pass rush from both OLBs, Lawrence Taylor and Carl Banks was particularly devastating. Something like that ended Joe Theismann's career with Washington.

Anyway, this is how a 3-4 defense was built to create confusion.

And here is an interesting tidbit:

When Parcells took over the Cowboys in 2003 he didn't have time to install the 3-4 but he did use many of the concepts. Ten of the eleven starters had at least one sack that season.

Statistically, that 2003 defense was the best in Cowboys history.

The Cowboys, despite their first two defense-minded HCs in their first 34 years, have never been #1 in both points allowed and yardage. Specifically, the Cowboys have never been ranked #1 in points allowed, not Doomsday, not Doomsday II, not the 90's defense.

However, the closest they have ever been was 2003 when they were #2 in points allowed and #1 in yardage.

I'm not saying that Parker is going to be the next Parcells. I'm just thinking that the element of surprise, if executed well, is a sure difference maker when it comes to ending drives and/or creating turnovers.

If this were boxing or golf, I'd agree with you 100%, but until the quarterback plays offensive line, receiver, defense and special teams, it really doesn't make sense to consider that a "quarterback's" record when common sense comes into play.

Of course im not directing my comment to you personally....

Think about it like this. According to that logic, Trent Dilfer 1-0, Nick Foles 1-0 and Brad Johnson 1-0 could be considered better quarterbacks when it matters the most in the biggest game in the NFL (Superbowl) than Jim Kelly 0-4, Dan Marino 0-1 and Joe Burrows 0-1, correct?

That logic also proves that Kaepernick who has led his team to a Superbowl is better than Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson and every other quarterback who has never led their teams to a Superbowl, combined.

Am I right?

In Dak’s career he is 10-20 against top 10 defenses; he has averaged 18.8 points per game with 37 touchdowns and 30 interceptions.
So if one buys into the fact that the better defenses are more adept in disguising defenses in creating confusion, then Dak does struggle given his metrics.

Yay, after 10 seasons he can read a blitz and coverages. Except when he can and throws into double coverage or his the back blocking the side opposite the free Blitzer.
