Dont misunderstand me. I am all for Woody and i do think that Witten doesnt belong in the HOF. He was very good. But not that special. And the HOF is for special players.

Woody should have been in a long time ago.

But now that they're both on the outside looking in, I think I'd give the nod to Witten.

2nd all time in receiving yards for TE (Until Kelce passes him this year), Walter Payton Man of the year award, 3x all pro. 11x pro bowl.

The only reason his accolades aren't better is because his career was split between the era of Gonzalez & Gates, Gronkowski and Kelce.

Why are you posting about this if you know so little about Witten (and football for that matter)? I didn't mention it because a player can have a strong game without getting into the end zone, and because Witten was never one to put up big TD numbers anyway. A strong game for Witten typically includes a high catch % and keeping the chains moving, and if he gets in the end zone it's an added bonus. If you think this was a poor game for Witten it shows you don't know much about him at all.

For some very odd reason, today's fans have an obsession w/ TDs and overrate who scores them. There are many facets to having a successful O, and a chain moving TE/WR is actually the most important one.

Irvin was the Witten of WRs. Consistently moved the chains, and had that knack for getting open in the seams. Irvin did not score many TDs, it wasn't his job nor what he was good at. They are ostensibly the same player.

Witten, IDK, he probably will get in, steady, reliable.....just didnt change the game or make the big play in the big games. But seems like their putting in everyone these days.

Witten has the 2nd most receiving yards ever by a TE, and 6th most TD's. 11 time Pro Bowl, 4 time All Pro (twice 1st team). The big play in the big game is needed if a player is borderline and needs something to elevate his profile with voters, but Witten's qualifications are easily enough.
