Finally have a young staff in place will implement modern schemes!

Fifteen of the last twenty-six Super bowls have been won by retreads like Bill Belichick, Andy Reid, Mike Shanahan, Dick Vermeil and Pete Carrol.

Youth doesn't automatically imply innovative success nor does age automatically exclude it.

As far as the current Cowboys defensive staff is concerned, we will let the results decide.

I'm not saying they won't be everything described, I am just tired of the annual offseason hype heaped upon us by the Cowboys propaganda department.

After the Garrett hiring, the Cowboys really have stayed away from the young, hungry, up incoming coaches. They went the experienced route with retread coaches with similar results.

For years the Cowboys brought in basic schemes that emphasized high level execution to be successful. They were as vanilla as it gets and allowed the other teams to know exactly what was coming. Cowboys teams consistently self-destructed.

We saw in his 1st season the impact Klayton Adams has made. The Cowboys finally have a balanced attack and were one of the better rushing teams in the entire league last season. They have struggled badly ever since Zeke broke down in that area. I made it easier for teams to defend their offense knowing they couldn't run the football, not anymore!

CP is now installing a complex scheme moving away from the very basic Marinelli one. Defense has struggled with such a transition in the past, it is going to take time, but they will finally have a scheme that offenses need to figure out, not exactly know where the weak spots are.

Time will tell if this direction going with these young coordinators is successful or not, but at least they aren't trying to replicate something that worked 20 years ago.
Think you mean that DIDN’T WORK 20 years ago……..

The best thing about last year is they finally did a solid search to hire the right guy. Then they let him pick his staff. That's huge
CP blew up everyone’s phone during the draft.

Just to get his players.

No way WillM was gonna get in the way.

Passed on Lomu and Trost.

Instant upgrades at LT.

Got Law and Bar.

Neither will be starters.

Your head is in the way.
It's been so long since a championship that the majority of fans will be like this. It doesn't matter what our coaching hires are, they are all wrong. Schotty will be a lazy hire until he wins a Championship. Something is wrong with Parker. There was a 5 page thread about hiring Will Greer as a simple assistant and how there were all sorts of things wrong about that.

It's not that I don't get it, the majority of these decisions by the FO over the years HAVE been wrong and the coaching hires like Garrett, Nolan, Eberflus, etc., HAVE been uninspired and retreads. So glass half empty fans are unfortunately right more often than the optimistic fans. I've been on this forum for years and rarely comment because it's all the same trashing every move they make. I choose to follow the Cowboys for my enjoyment and just don't need the constant negativity in my life, so until Dak, Schotty, and most of all Stephen and Jerry bring us another ring, or at least a SB appearance, you are just beating your head into the wall trying to force optimism in a negative echo chamber.

Younger does not necessarily mean better. I'm not buying the assumptions being made about this young staff. There is still something to be said for experience which this staff is lacking.
How was have coaching retreads worked for us in the last 30 years? Sometimes you need someone NOT set in their ways.

1st step is getting the coaching correct. I think they've done a much better job with staff than previous years. That's not to say they had a perfect draft, they didn't. No one did. Some guys will flame out and some will hit. But with a better staff and overall better players they should be much improved and the front office needs to keep working/building on that side.

I Love that they are bringing in young fresh ideas. my concern is the lack of experience running a defense as well making it too complex to run. i dont want another Rob Ryan year where they do not know what to do and are out of position all the time. I would like a happy in the middle defense with new ideas but easer for the guys to run so they can play fast. I hope all the teaching leads to faster reaction times for the players.

I remember a couple of months ago having a discussion with a fellow zoner who shall go nameless, but he basically claimed that by default the Cowboys defense was going to suck this year because there is no way to turn in around in one year... Of course I could see his thought process and I respected it, but I tried to explain to him that it's very possible to turn a defense around in this modern era with an infusion of great coaching and players... We have all been guilty of eating the cheese, but as bad as we were last year, we have to get better one would expect... I actually believe the defense will be pretty good this year, I think CP is exactly what we needed at the right time, and I expect my mid season to see a very solid defense overall, just a gut feeling...
I agree with that genius poster who disagreed with you. (No, it's not me.). I mean, all things are possible, many more are improbable though. It's improbable that we hit on all our draft picks, our coaches, our existing players and that they gel.

Suppose this wasn't your favorite team and we had the Eagles defense. Don't you think they are optimistic? Or the Commanders who have a ton of talent on D? I mean, yes...I hope and you hope too, but other teams also are in year 2 or 3 of their implementation.

Improved? Sure...that's reasonable. But when you start saying "pretty good"...you lost me.

Well the great thing is we all have our own hopes and opinions. All I was saying is that it's possible, and I know we all suffer from letdown syndrome when it comes to our boys, but I disagree with you in then the sense that it's improbable for the Defense to be turned around. While it typically takes time to get things sorted out, I believe that so much has changed with our defense this off season along with the drive they will have to get better, maybe things work out... I just have a gut feeling, and I know that is meaningless..

I hear you, but your argument is "I feel" and "I believe"...OK. But just remember you also want it to be true...which means your "feelings" and "gut" could be compromised.

As Obiwan told Luke, "Your feelings serve you well. Bury them deep inside. They do you credit, but they could be made to serve Jerry..."

I’m not trying to force optimism. I’m trying to prevent people from crapping on posters that do post optimistic opinions, facts, etc.
