2025-26 NBA Season

Thanks for the highlights. He’s 20 so he can fill out some he’s a perimeter player . I would think they stash him next season or he’s limited until he learns the NBA is a little rougher than the Spanish league .

The more things change from the Nelson & Son days to now the more they stay the same . Dirk Luka now this player from overseas . Be nice if Dallas has a hit on this one too .

From the looks of it he's been titled " Top international guard"

Sergio de Larrea is a 6'7" guard who averaged 9.7 PPG and 3.7 APG for Valencia as a 20-year-old. Despite his size, he handles the ball well and is great in the pick-and-roll, but he does struggle with turnovers. That may make him a better fit at shooting guard initially while he develops a tighter handle.

Instant Draft Grade for Sergio de Larrea: A-

The Dallas Mavericks had to improve their backcourt, and when it looked like they were trading out of the first round, it looked catastrophic. Second-rounders rarely hit, so it's good to see Masai Ujiri and Mike Schmitz be aggressive to target a guard who could really develop into something.

De Larrea isn't perfect, as he'll have to improve his shot-making, and he's not a great athlete. However, he won the MVP of the Spanish Supercup in 2025 and was voted Liga ACB's best young player this season. He has a lot of upside, which is something the Mavs needed.

Prior to this, the Mavericks were looking at a backcourt that featured Kyrie Irving coming off an ACL injury and Ryan Nembhard. This is a great swing on a talented prospect.

Dallas Mavericks

Morez Johnson, 6-9, Michigan sophomore forward

Grade: A+

Just a day after Dusty May was hired as Mavericks head coach, he gets to continue coaching a player in Johnson who helped May's Michigan team win an NCAA championship a few months ago. New Mavericks president Masai Ujiri has always loved drafting jumbo-sized forwards, which must’ve been part of the appeal in joining a franchise that’s headlined by Cooper Flagg. And that’s the logic here with Johnson. You know the guy on a championship team who never gets enough credit nationally? The one who sets the bone-crushing screen that springs the star, then immediately sprints to the rim for the lob, then turns around and blows up the other team's pick-and-roll on the other end all in one sequence? That's Morez Johnson. He transferred from Illinois to Michigan and became the connective tissue of the national champions as a 251-pound wrecking ball with surprisingly soft hands and the defensive IQ to guard 1 through 5 in a switch-heavy scheme. The catch is he's not quite big enough to be a true center and not yet proven enough as a shooter to guarantee he spaces the floor. But even without a jumper, Johnson has a long future ahead of him at the next level.

25. Dallas Mavericks (via Knicks via Lakers)

Sergio De Larrea, 6-6, Valencia international wing

Grade: A+

After drafting forward Morez Johnson Jr. with the ninth pick, Dallas goes with a guard here after trading with the Knicks to get De Larrea. The Spaniard is a tall, playmaking guard with major feel and a knockdown jumper who thrives within team concepts. He suffered a dislocated shoulder that ended his 2024-25 season and removed him from draft boards, but it ended up a blessing in disguise since he returned with a bigger role and stronger production for a great team in the EuroLeague. With size, smarts, and defensive versatility, he could carve out a role with the Mavericks if his international skill can translate.

From what I was reading if Morez Johnson Jr. jump shot was fully developed he would have been a top 1-5 pick

Not a bad night for Dallas a 6’9” enforcer in the paint and a 6’6” guard who hopefully can translate his Euro game into the NBA with obviously an upgrade in coaching and facilities ( weight room & dietician ) .

Be interesting to see if Dallas is a player in FA .

De Larrea is 175 LBS ?
204 LBS actually.

Valencia's Sergio De Larrea's anthro measurements from his abbreviated 2026 AWS NBA Draft Combine make-up activities (cm converted, rounded): 6'6 barefoot, 204 pounds with a 6'9 wingspan and 8'4 ¾ standing reach :

Random draft thoughts:

The high lo game with Edey/Boozer is going to be fun.

Charlotte had a very underrated draft so far.

Milwaukee’s rebuild begins with Ware, KJ, Ament, and Burries. They will be terrible. We shall see what happens with Ament. I can see a universe where he’s an all star caliber player. But I can also just as easily see he’s a disappointing player. I’m not sold on KJ and if Spo cuts your minutes - I’m not sure what that says about your long term career.

I like OKC’s and the Spurs arms race. I’m not high on Mara. At all. But I’m definitely intrigued to watch these two teams play again. I am not high on Q either due to injuries and complete lack of offense, however, he’s in right situation where it could work out. Loved the pick of Reed. SA definitely got strength, length, and size inside to help out. Stirtz to OKC is interesting, too. Gives another scoring/shooting option off the bench.

The internet and media were higher on Carr and Philon than the scouts were. I stick by my claim with Philon, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t starting to second guess it based on last night.

Jazz are going to be an interesting team. George/Peterson/Bailey/Markennan/JJJ/Kessler.

Someone has to go. My guess is Markennan gets traded for depth pieces/future picks. It’s a shame, really, since he ride out the years of tanking. But it’s what makes most sense. But their future looks bright.

I was surprised by the lack of trades. I guess with all the rumors, I bought into the idea there was going to be a flurry of trade activity with respect to players being move (besides Giannis) for picks.

Minnesota trades Randle. They draft the lite version of him. Curious to see if Jefferson pans out and has a productive career. Felt bad his ISU career ended the way it did.
