Shavon Revel is the key for the CB position moving forward!

Dont forget the other young squire from ECU by the name of Anthony Smiff.

If he can make the 53 the man roster, the Pirates will be well represented.

Robert Jones and Chris Johnson have represented that small school well in the past.
Jeff Blake had a respectable career as well.

Then yea it's too suspect and banking on hope. If bland isn't healthy it's alot of hope regarding revel, Carson and the rook.
Hell Revel and Carson too. I’m less concerned with Durant I’m not sure if he’s anything more than a JaG but he at least will be out there.

I can’t spell it out down to the exact measurable but they were not comparable players based on general draft analysis when they each came out, injury or not.

Surtain was projected as a stud corner, ended up as a top ten pick, and has not disappointed. Are you telling me that’s how Revel was billed the same without the injury? If so, it’s news to me, because he probably still would have went in the first round.
Yes, Revel was widely considered a first round pick before his injury.

If you look up his name and first round, you’ll find plenty of examples.

I think all the DBs will be better this year for multiple reasons. Not awesome, but better, because -

1 - Parker is running a modern scheme that will benefit them, over Eberflus’ scheme which was figured out by NFL offenses literally two decades ago

2 - Downs and his extraordinary communication skills and pre-snap recognition will allow him to get his teammates into better position (assuming Downs plays well as a rookie and the game is not too fast for him)

3 - We should have a better pass rush. Ezeiruaku should be better, and Lawrence I presume will mostly be a DPR as a rookie. He is definitely the most athletic rusher on the team currently.

At this point, I’m worried more about the LBs than the CBs. If I were the GM I would have already been making an offer to Miami for Brooks and offered Wagner a contract.

Thats fine, and I’m not trying to argue. If we have that type of talent here I’m pumped, but what if the exact thing happened to Surtain at the same time? Does he fall to the third? We will never know, but I’m thinking no.

I don’t need to be convinced. I’m not in the “I need to see it first” boat. I’m ready to watch this defense excel as a unit.

He missed over half the season last year so my expectations aren't high for him. It is one of the main things im looking forward to seeing though.

Revel might be more physically gifted then Surtain
Not in any measurable way.

Revel is a nice prospect but he's only a year younger than Surtain lol. Guys who are 23 look a lot more athletic in college than guys who are 20.

You know skimming through all these posts is not just here but throughout the first page on the defense and certain players and calling them the X-Key- factor and what not,

I think what's happening here is because how bad the defense was last year nobody has any idea how these players are going to step up this year in a new defense a better situation.

It wasn’t just a bad defensive scheme or coordinator, though that played a role, injuries were a huge factor.

These guys were surrounded by rookies who should have been starting, but instead were alongside practice squad players, some from other teams, many who wouldn’t normally make a roster.

There were also some very disappointing free-agent signings, especially at linebacker, making it a total loss.

You can’t fairly judge anyone from last year’s defense who’s still on the team, but I believe they’ll surprise people this year, feeling more comfortable and playing naturally in better situations. Linebackers, corners, and safeties have all improved, and even the returning players will benefit from the changes. People are underestimating these groups because of last year, but I think they’ll perform much better as a unit.

This defense needs to play as one, team defense, like in basketball when there are no lockdown defenders, but the group works together to win.

That means swarming, staying in lanes, sticking to assignments, avoiding hero ball, holding blocks, trusting teammates, and swarming to tackle instead of assuming someone else will make the stop.

He has elite physical traits, but is a raw prospect that needs a ton of development. Surtain when he was drafted was almost fully developed and ready to hit the ground running.

I don't know what this means. Revel was 3 years older than Surtain when they were drafted.

Revel doesn't have any physical traits that Surtain doesn't.

He could have been playing in the NFL the last 2 years.

slightly longer arms and wing span. slightly longer broad jump. aside from surtain matching him in vert and speed at nearly 15 lbs heavier, they are exceptionally similar athletes.
