The league isn't going to start testing for CTE (I don't think you even can) because it would be the end of the league. Most players have CTE already to some degree.

Definitely glad I quit playing football after junior high. In the end, if they don't find a solution for CTE (that seems far fetched), that could doom the game all together.

Millions and millions of former football players have died a normal age after playing football.

How about the players take a 30% paycut, and we'll go back to 12 regular season games and 8 playoff teams like the old days? That's a max 15 games for the Super Bowl teams.

For comparison, a 2018 Boston University study of 164 brains of men and women donated to the Framingham Heart Study found that only 1 of 164 (0.6 percent) had CTE. The lone CTE case was a former college football player. The extremely low population rate of CTE is in line with similar studies from brain banks in Austria, Australia and Brazil.

It also makes me wonder how many of us "normal" people have some form of cte. I mean we all grew up playing sports and many of us have physical type jobs etc. Im sure ive been concussed 2 or 3 times. Just curious as to how common it actually is or isnt.

When I was in high school I had my hand stepped on. I was on my knees holding my hand and as I was told one of my team mates blew up a guy after the whistle. That guy was launched through my head. All I remember was not being able to hear a thing. It was like my ears were corked. I played the rest of the game and can't remember a thing about it. I am sure that afternoon left a mark.

2 things:
1) You can not test for CTE until someone is dead.

2) They all know the risks of playing football. They are aware of CTE. They still chose to play. I hate it, I dont like seeing anyone suffer long term injuries. I served in the Gulf War and breathed in oil wells for 3 months. Is the military going to stop putting troops in harms way because of possible injuries?

They are paid handsomely, they chose to play. What more can the NFL do without altering the game to where it isnt even recognizable?

This is a far cry from doing it 100s of times a year for 20 years though. I think that's really the point that people ignore. CTE is about repetitive head trauma, not singular events.

That's not to devalue that incident - most people who played sports experienced something similar - but it's not really the same thing.
