Romo on pardon my take about not winning a Superbowl

That 2016 season was the beginning of the end for me. When Romo was not allowed to come back as the QB, It finally got thru my thick skull ( after dismissing so many other signs before then) that winning a SB was not the top priority for Jerry Jones. And this is not a knock on Dak. He played extremely well for a rookie. But no rookie in the history of the league has ever won a SB and it wasn't going to be a 4th round pick raw running QB from MS State that broke that record. We had a real chance that year. Romo should have been the starter when he was cleared. I get the arguments against it. But it was and always will be the wrong decision. I have lost more and more interest every year watching them fail year after year and knowing that Jerry just isn't going to do what is needed to get back to and win another SB. Maybe at some point in the near future, that will change when Jerry is no longer running the show.

Jimmy Johnson after Romo played the series in the Philly game, I don't want to start a QB controversy but after watching him in that game I'm not so sure.... And he hadn't played for over a year. If he would have been inserted when he was healthy he would have been in prime form by the playoffs.

Put Romo on Aikman's teams, and Aikman on Romo's teams.

Tony would have 3-4 Super Bowls, and Troy would have none. In fact, Troy would have had to retire 3 years before Tony did.

I don't know why you want to diminish Aikman like that. There are only 5 QBs in history with 3 or more rings, Troy, Bradshaw, Montana, Mahomes, And Brady. And it could be argued Troy could have had 4 or more if Jerry and Jimmy weren't such egomaniacs.

While I believe it was a contributing factor in his decision, I have never thought it was the primary reason. He was prepared to gut out the 2016 season, but he totally turned his back on the very next season elsewhere..? I still believe he gave himself two choices, which was either: 1) playing for Dallas; or 2) reinventing himself outside the NFL. His publicly announced his career in Dallas was dead on November 15, 2016, so...

I think his mind was made up well-before many of his observers thought it was. I had already guessed though.

I liked Romo but we missed the boat and pretty much wasted his career. I also like Dak and think we're dangerously close to doing the same with his career. We got lucky in both cases. Will lightning strike again?

A very good QB with ability to win it all. Couldnt get the BIG plays in post season to move the marker.

The No-catch, Seattle fumble, DeMarco fumble, defense giving up 1st 3rd n 30 ....etc .... the list goes on.

Heartbreaking career, full of great moments.

Look at all the support Romo had that game. Yes, the D gave up plays but heck...our special teams scored! When it came down to it, he's a choker! Certified, Bonafide!!!

I think Garrett was the determining factor. With Dak he was CotY. Tony got all the credit when he played.

I agree. Neither Dak nor Romo had the arm to make those throws that were bread and butter for Troy. And Dak doesn't have the accuracy either.

At some point it stops being bad luck. My own opinion is Tony had a terrible risk/reward balance. The Dez "catch", I understand what he was thinking. I'm sure he had decided well before the game, like during the season, if Dez is singled on the outside with no safety help I'm throwing the ball to him every single time. I don't care if he's covered I have confidence in my ability to place the ball and his ability to go get it. All they needed there was a first down. And arguably all they wanted was a first down. He didn't look at the situation and right or wrong it cost us the game.

Fast forward to the Patriots vs Rams Superbowl. The entire 4th quarter he was almost yelling to Brady to get the ball deep to Gronk. Tony was right that was the play that they needed and it's what sealed the game in the end. But Brady set it up, had patience, and when they needed it he got it. I think Tony would have forced the ball to Gronk earlier. Maybe it would have worked, but why risk it? The play to Gronk was a virtual pitch and catch. Not a Dez caught it type of risky play.

I've often wondered how Bucs fans felt when Brady took them to the super bowl and won.

Obviously winning a super bowl is great, but did it feel earned when it's someone else's legacy?

I personally don't think of it as the Bucs winning a super bowl. I think of it as Tom's 7th and proof that he didn't need Bill.

I've never heard of a Bucs fan who felt that way.

Wrong. Dak was not the reason the Cowboys didn't beat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in order to advance to the NFC Championship Game. If anything, Dak was the one who gave the Cowboys the best chance, even brought the team back from being down 18 points halfway through the 2nd quarter, only to tie the game 31-31 with 35 seconds left in regulation. The Cowboys were robbed by the cheating referees. As a rookie in his very first playoff game, Dak threw for 3+ TDs, over 300+ yards and brought the team back from being down 3 scores with only half the game left to play: things Romo never accomplished in any of the 6 playoff games he ever started for the Cowboys, including all of Romo's experience. So, sorry, but you're wrong that Romo could have given the Cowboys the better chance to win that 2016 Divisional Playoff Game. Everything proves it.

And the int had nothing to do with them being down? I agree Dak played good enough to win. Rodgers should have been sacked on the play that got them in FG range.

I loved watching Romo, and I enjoy watching Dak. I personally feel the Cowboys, in a way, failed Romo. I thought the way they gave him little to no oline help from 2008 until about 2013 was a big reason why he was where he was. I think, if he had the Great Wall of Dallas for longer, he probably wins us one. Also, I genuinely think Schotty (both older or younger) would have been BRILLIANT for Romo.

I often wish Tony would have had another year of Parcels to get some of the gunslinger out of him.

I'm not. Troy was a terrific quarterback who played on arguably the greatest roster in NFL history. Tremendous arm and accuracy. But he also had limitations. He was very similar to Eli Manning.

Romo played in horrible circumstances under a circus tent. Aikman would have fared far worse in those times. That's my point

Romo had a pretty good career. He had a career better than many people drafted before him in higher rounds. Sad thing about the NFL is all quarterbacks from the elite to the pro bowlers aren't guaranteed a Superbowl appearance or win.

Its just too many moving parts in an NFL franchise that has to line up together.

Everybody was drafted before Tony.
