Suspending a player for 3 games is weird ..

It makes me wonder if the NFL did that to allow the appeal process to knock it down to 2 games which is probably what they wanted.

It's a little like court cases. One offender can get three years in prison and another four years of probation. A lot of the times, it depends on how many other offenses that the person has committed that maybe he wasn't punished for.

This is BS. If Goodell wants to discipline a player, it should occur within a reasonable time frame, like maybe the season it occured! If in the off-season, then the immediate upcoming season. Not the freakin season 2 years later!

I believe he just had the case resolved when he plead no contest to the charge in January.

Standard for the League and NFLPA SOA (Substances of Abuse) Policy. Generally, it's a two game suspension. The facts of his case must have been tricky enough to warrant the 3 game suspension.
