Romo on pardon my take about not winning a Superbowl

I agree, but I get Parcells retiring. But getting him with Marty for a few years would have been good too. I think his style of WCO would have done Romo a lot of good too.
Look at how good of a QB he became with Garrett. There are probably 10 coaches in the NFL at any given moment who are better for their QB than Garrett ever could be.

Tony Romo on @PardonMyTake:

"I'm not a guy with big regrets, I guess you could say. The only regret I guess I would have is that... my job was to bring a Super Bowl to Dallas and I didn't do it. So that always sticks with me a little bit. Because you give your whole body, heart, soul, everything into it."

"And you just wanted that for... all the fans. The Joneses. For everybody that you're around. And so that one always sticks with me a little bit just because I had that opportunity and just wasn't able to do it. So that part of it kind of still... sits there."

"But at the end it was like... I could go somewhere else and do it. Because I was like, I gotta win a Super Bowl. It's literally what you play the game for. Nothing else matters."

"And it just was like... but would that be the same? If I went somewhere else and did it?"

"Because at that point I'd known the game at such a high level. My last 20, 25 games, we were pretty successful. When healthy. But I was getting injured more often. Body breaks down in some ways through the years."

"...I think just... it was as simple as it just wouldn't feel as... important... it would be important to me, but it was for the people I was around. All the fans that we had."

Should have given Tony a chance to come back in 2016.
Best oline and RB since he was on the team.
Playing MVP level ball in 2014.

Who would have thought a rookie 4th-rounder would play so well during his injury that he would lose his job? I have said before, A HEALTHY TONY ROMO was better than a rookie Dak Prescott; healthy is the key word.

Sidenote.....his body reached the point where you could no longer trust it for an entire season, especially after the last back injury. Just bad luck.......something that followed him quite a bit during his career.
We didn't need to trust Tony's body for even a game. Even two plays. Just trust him for the *next* play, and ride him for as long as he lasted.
If Tony went down, but Dak back in, which is the alternative they chose in the first place.

Bottomline is the Romo we saw return arguably provided us a better opportunity to advance. If he gets hurt again then you being Prescott back.

But that’s not why Jethro went with Prescott. He did because he couldn’t afford for Romo to come up short while benching the Rookie sensation even though we were beginning to see his weakness exposed.

In other worlds Jethro played the Public Perception Card. He was better off losing with Prescott than Romo . and once he made that decision there was no going back to Romo. Regardless if it was a sounder GM move .
Jethro played the stupid card.
We had a chance for Super Bowl run with Romo coming off an MVP level 2014 and *maybe* healthy enough to last a playoff run, and maybe not.
But we couldn't do that because what if Romo got hurt? We'd have to put in Dak. Which we chose to do instead anyway.
We had a chance to have *two* franchise QBs on the team, with all the trade value that entailed. Instead, we got *nothing* for Romo.
Going with Dak was just such a loser play. Such a playing it safe move for the oil wildcatter.

That’s exactly how I’d define playing the Public Perception Card .
A Public Perception Card.

A 'Public Perception Card' dictated Jerry Jones' actions during the 2016 season.

This will be another example of our opinions not seeing eye-to-eye.

Jones fired a long-time, beloved head football coach for Cowboys' fans at supersonic speed. He did not give a <expletive> about a Public Perception Card.

Jones fired a two-time defending Super Bowl head coach. He did not give a <expletive> about a Public Perception Card.

Jones has entrenched himself as the team's general manager for over three decades. He has not given a <expletive> about a Public Perception Card.

Jones retained a head coach, whom he hired with basically zero coaching experience, for a decade without measurable postseason success. He did not give a <expletive> about a Public Perception Card.

Jones did not... DID NOT... willingly do something as simple as block blinding sunlight shining into AT&T Stadium for NFL games, since 2009, but DID DO SO immediately for FIFA games after being contractually obligated. He did not give a <expletive> about a Public Perception Card in either instance.

but

A winning streak fueled Public Perception Card bent Jones backwards?

Me? I will agree Jones' motivation was selling the <expletive> out of that Team Chemistry Euphoria season, while soaking in the false self-perception of being a football genius at the same time. That is definitely on point for what he has always done.

Heck. That is an abbreviated list.

Well exactly, and that's why I'm wondering about Marty. Plus, Marty would have been here about as long as Wade was, and he'd have been, imo, a more logical mentor for Garrett at the time. I think Romo would have been even more magical with Marty, and who knows where things would have gone from there?

That 2016 season was the beginning of the end for me. When Romo was not allowed to come back as the QB, It finally got thru my thick skull ( after dismissing so many other signs before then) that winning a SB was not the top priority for Jerry Jones. And this is not a knock on Dak. He played extremely well for a rookie. But no rookie in the history of the league has ever won a SB and it wasn't going to be a 4th round pick raw running QB from MS State that broke that record. We had a real chance that year. Romo should have been the starter when he was cleared. I get the arguments against it. But it was and always will be the wrong decision. I have lost more and more interest every year watching them fail year after year and knowing that Jerry just isn't going to do what is needed to get back to and win another SB. Maybe at some point in the near future, that will change when Jerry is no longer running the show.
No that was not the reason, romo was 25 mil a season, dak was about half a mil. that was reason #1
Dak was on a hot streak and it all looked great to the casual viewer.
But the offense was mostly dak running,The locker room liked dak better too.
The smart thing to do was go back to Romo for the playoffs, and if he falters or gets hurt again just switch back to dak.
But jerry would not say well I dont need to win in playoffs so I will just go with dak.
He thought it was the smart move, switching to a young cheap qb who had proven he could win.

I hear ya. But to just generally criticize that he took time off when other athletes often do the same thing without one side eye....let alone talking about it YEARS later....seems like hater territory to me.
Not to me. It's a terrible look to go on vacation and then lose right after that. And they were the #1 seed to boot? Didn't the Giants do the same thing years ago with their party boat and then lost right after? Bad look.

No doubt. But don’t confuse his own self interest which can trump public perception he thinks he can manipulate.

And I think my message has been somewhat misconstrued. I often play devils advocate. And my argument pends on whether he actually believed Romo could have provided a better opportunity to win in playoffs and went with Dak instead. Which I think many felt he would have.

I've had a lot of fun, anticipation and excitement in the last 30 years. We've had some fantastically gratifying wins.

It sucks that weve had such crushing defeats and ended in disappointment so often...

But, if you are only focused on the destination, and lose the ability to enjoy the ride its no longer fun. Fans sometimes forget the point. If you cant enjoy the game you're wasting your time.
Can't enjoy the ride to hell.

Bad look to who? These athletes have mansions, money, and hordes of beautiful gold diggers. Do you think they worry about looking bad to some regular Joe Schmoe laying on a couch with nacho stains on his shirt and one sock on?

Should have given Tony a chance to come back in 2016.
When??????
Dak was playing lights out. Hell, even Romo said you have to stick with the hot hand during his Nov. presser. Dak's inexperience didn't show until the playoff game. That's when the magic disappeared and I will always believe we lost a Super Bowl opportunity by NOT playing Romo at that point. We literally had an elite experience and healthy QB sitting on the sidelines, and we refused to let him bail out a rookie who had hit a wall during a playoff game. What a shame.........

You left off one time Jerry DID give a blank about public perception. Sort of......

Remember why Jerry hired Parcells? Jerry knew he had to fool public perception into believing he actually gave a blank, but he only did it to get Jerry World built. He didn't really give a blank what we thought back then, but he had to deceive the masses into thinking he did to get what he wanted.

'Sort of' is right, though. Diehardblues' Public Perception Card is supposedly a byproduct of fans' reaction to the team's winning streak, forcing him to obey their desires. Your PAC version was Jerry Jones' creation to manipulate fans' public reaction. In effect, he got fans to obey his desire for a new stadium. Both can be described as a PAC, but the two are on opposite sides of that same coin.

As opposed to what? Dying in a car crash? Shot in the neck?

Maybe you feel injured by the comment but it's true.
Clearly you’re hurt by Romo having a low moment in his career. It’s okay. Athletes make mistakes all the time. Romo isn’t immune to them. He learned from that experience and never said anything as silly after a deflating loss like that again (he’s had plenty)

And not just a reaction to Daks winning streak but Romo’s lack of.

Again it’s based on the preposition he believed Romo provided him the better opportunity which many fans also believed.

Public Perception Card doesn’t necessarily mean going with public pressure but not going with your own better judgement or instincts instead going with a safer decision.

And that’s assuming Jethro has good football instincts. Maybe he actually believed Dak was his answer from the heavens. Who knows. Lol

You typed 'assuming' as a joke, right?

...right?
