First of all, I think the asking price will not be the same.

I firmly believe that Clowney is looking for more money. It’s always been his M.O., and why he’s bounced around the league.

I also believe that Dallas could get Miller at a discount because of who they are and where they’re located. Miller has said so himself that he’d love to play close to home.

So, for me, it’s the less expensive Von Miller.

It essentially forces you to keep 6 outside linebackers, but I think Miller still has some gas in the tank in a rotational role.

Not sure about that. Miller was signed in mid-July last year. I prefer to get players under contract before someone else sees they have a need and signs them. Of course, like I said, I'm not sure that Clowney will sign with anyone until camp is nearly over since that has been his MO of late, so he might be available if it looks like our young guys are going to need some developmental time.

I suspect that’s how it plays out. We need to see what we have and a guy like Clowney doesn’t need camp. Obviously there’s risks to waiting. But I’m hoping we get the young guys lots of reps early in pre season so we can make a decision. Ideally a guy steps up

this is up to Parker and what he wants. It is still too early to mess with this, they need to look at guys they have in TC 1st. Also PS games might bring some changes.

IMHO, it depends on what you want/need.

If you want/need a guy that can play every down as a full time starter due to injury, you get Clowney.
If you want a situational pass rusher with a load of big time/big game experience who might be able to pass that info down to the younger players, you get Miller.

Honestly, I think that we have Clowney type players on the team. We do NOT have a Von Miller.

If I could only get one for THIS team, I'd get Miller.

Almost 2,900 players are currently on NFL rosters. Neither Miller or Clowney are one of them.

None of the 32 teams are straining at the leash to sign these guys. I suspect it’s because their presence on a roster, at this point in their respective careers, would do more harm than good.

Miller signed in Washington at this same time last year.

And Clowney is a routinely late signing guy. He didn’t sign until September of last year.

Long time Veteran players routinely avoid offseason workouts and in some cases training camp as well.

Teams that are trying to build teams that can compete for a Super Bowl in the next three years do not need players that will block development of young players. Likely why the Commanders and Cowboys have not retained them.

No amount of mentoring is more beneficial than actually playing in regular season NFL games.

If one considers either of them “teams that can compete for a Super Bowl in the next three years”.

I consider the Cowboys much closer.

If you have guys on your roster that need more time to develop, a Miller or Clowney is not a bad signing. Clowney played well for us last year. It's not like we're signing them to a long term contract. This team needs to hit the ground running.

So do 31 other teams and they’re not inclined to sign them. Their worth the minimum if a team finds out players they’re counting on show no promise of developing or get badly injured.
