Can Jonathan Mingo finally develop into a reliable fourth option for the Cowboys?

Aside from Turpin as the gadget guy that wr4 spot is wide open. As that group is put together today, I'd rather have MVS as the guy as he has the experience to fill in as a starter if need be. There is enough youth with the top 3 guys that I'm not worried about my wr4 being young. In an ideal world one of the young guys steps up and makes it an easy choice, but until that happens he'd be my choice.

Anthony Smith will be WR #3 very soon.

Flournoy and Mingo can fight for #4

This message will self destruct in 3...2...
Please allow me to break down why Anthony Smith will indeed ride pine while Flournoy eats snaps.

Flournoy is way too efficient to be taken lightly. He's a legit WR with ELITE X-WR traits. His efficiency and production aren't luck. His numbers show we got lucky finding him in the 6th round. It happens.

An elite RAS near 9.9 places Flournoy among the most athletic receivers to enter the league over the last several decades.

First have a look at his tape, then check out his physical traits and measurables below. You'll see why he's constantly burning boys and getting wide open and why he's been solid in the run game:

NFL athletic profile: 9.89 RAS
Prototype size: 6'1", 202 lbs
Arm length: 31 5/8 inches
40 time: 4.44
Hand size: 10 1/8 inches
Bench press: 19 reps (225 lbs)
Vetical leap: 39.5 inches
Broad jump: 11'0" (132")

Now, have a gander at how that translated on field allowing him to jump from WR6 to WR3 in less than half a season's action.

Yards Per Route Run1.73
Targets Per Route Run20%
Catch Rate71.4%
Drop Rate1.8%

Any qustions on why Anthony isn't going to be WR3? Just playing here of course, but don't sleep on the 6th rounder.

Sturm has started his annual top 60 2026 cowboys rankings. It’s an averaged ranking from ten members of the Dallas football media

Today was 60-51

Mingo is 57th (Sturm didn’t have him in his top 60)

On November 5, 2024, the Cowboys traded a 4th round pick to Carolina for Mingo in a move that was curious then and just flat-out confusing now. We could argue that the world might have been different for Mingo if the George Pickens trade didn’t come along, but I suppose we could also argue that the Pickens trade isn’t pursued if Mingo would have given them hope in the seven months that he had after the trade to make an impression on a team that had serious concerns about the voids at receiver after CeeDee Lamb.

The argument for Mingo, 25, was that he had two years left on his rookie deal but we are now at that final season and he has yet to make any significant impression on this roster and surely is seen as a massive disappointment given the price that was paid on him. Carolina surely cannot believe that they found a 4th rounder for what was left of him after they soured and now Ryan Flournoy has flown past him along with rumors that the coaching staff are not terribly big fans of his work. It is surely conceivable that he makes the team as their WR depth is very “TBD”, but our panel is incredibly split as four of us do not even have him in our Top 60 anymore. If anyone needs a big camp, it is the former 2nd round pick (40th overall) in 2023.

Maybe he could have the same if given a chance that's all I'm saying
Maybe, yes, but his catch rate is just awful, were all the passes thrown his way also so awful that only a herculean effort would have resulted in a catch?

Doubt it, Cowboys have wasted time and resources on players before, Dak's time is running out, Cowboys don't have the luxury of waiting for borderline players to develop.

Were all those throws catchable??

One of those guys or even the #3 as well has to play special teams. Can we get a vet like mvs to play special teams
