That probably is true But when Dexter Lawrence just got traded and I put them to closer Quinnie Williams they've been in a league around the same amount of time and age they both had one great year but then their production since then is down but pretty normal so those blips on their screens with those double digit sacks for just one year it's an anomaly..

After all that and he gets traded to Cincinnati they give him a one year $28 million deal People around here think everybody is getting a really long extension and really big the next market money and that's not true...

I think QW will definitely be in line for 30 or more but that's what you have to go by it's intermittent it doesn't always mean new market money next record setting non highest paid quarterback nonsense doesn't go to every player at every position...

The collective bargaining agreement directly ties the salary cap to league revenues. Revenues go up, cap goes up, salaries for players go up.

Scarcity. That question is better answered from an economic rather than financial perspective. The average 'qualified' white collar worker is more plentiful in supply and (respectfully) far more easily replaceable.

Ergo, larger supply = smaller demand

In contrast, the professional 'qualified' sports athlete (e.g. someone capable of performing satisfactorily at the professional level) are far fewer in number. Leagues are continually seeking newer blood who can play at the highest level.

Smaller supply = larger demand

An industry (the NFL in this instance) will devote whatever percentage of its revenue it deems fit to meet the level of demand. In pro football, quarterbacks meet the highest demand by owners collectively. An owner will either pay or refuse whatever $$$ figure presented to them by any player--either per their singular personal want or perceived need.

The present system is geared towards players continually shopping themselves for the highest possible compensation. If an owner feels a player is an irreplaceable asset for their team, they will sign the contract or attempt to beat their competition to the punch. The same holds true if an owner feels their want exceeds any real need for acquiring a player.

Finally, an owner will satisfy their want or need up to whatever maximum spending expenditure they pre-determine as 'safe'. They may even stress their salary cap mandates to do so. Ever increasing revenue helps them accomplish their acquisition goals.

Agreed. The league, like any industry, will eventually hit a breakeven point, but I personally do not foresee it happening. Much younger fans than I may witness it through--even with the never-ending efforts of the league to expand globally.

Or he does. I recall the mania when he signed Hurts to a “highest paid NFL player ever” contract. He was highest paid for six days. Now he’s been to two Super Bowls, won one, and 11 quarterbacks are paid more (AAV) than he is. Only two of those eleven have ever won a Super Bowl. More significant, only two of those eleven are younger than Hurts.

Same old, same old. Whatever you sign the player for, sooner is always better than later.
