@DUO_CORE can correct me but the hypothetical is a swap of franchises. Past franchises have packed up and retained their histories, with the lone exception of the Cleveland Browns (I believe).

Let's pretend more by saying the moves happened in 2027. If the swap involved franchise histories in the switcheroo, the new Houston Texans' history would range from 1960 to 2027, covering the entire old Dallas Cowboys franchise, including playoff history. The new Dallas Cowboys history would start in 2002 to 2027, encompassing the whole old Houston Texans' history, with its championship-omitted postseason history. That arrangement would make Jerry Jones giddy.

That is franchise-level history, though. The all ex-players' and current players, who were to the previous franchises' rosters in 2026, would have player histories with asterisks. Let's use a historical database like pro-football-reference.com for an example. For instance, Troy Aikman's career statistics would still say Dallas for his entire career, BUT all his data would be under the Houston Texans page. Similarly, David Carr's career statistics from 2002-2006 would still say Houston, BUT all his data would fall under the Dallas Cowboys page. 2027 players, who were on 2026 rosters, would have their statistics treated the same way.

I would guess regardless of the answers here, an overwhelming amount would become Texans fans.

The memories of sitting with your father watching Staubach or growing up with Aikman and Emmitt supercede the color of the jersey or the name in the endzone. Houston would then be the place those memories are immortalized and live on. That’s bigger than laundry

It would be any given individual's choice. I made up my mind as a nine-year-old, but my choice was the franchise and The Star--not people. It makes hypotheticals like the OP easy for me.

...with conditions of course. haHA!

In my hypothetical post, the banners that currently hang at AT&T and NRG (Reliant) stadiums would remain. The teams are merely switching locations and names. Players/coaches/management would be moving with them. The new Cowboys would be owned by Cal McNair and coached by Demeco Ryans.

If by some miracle Jerry moved the team to Philadelphia; and seeing a huge void in the Dallas market, Jeffrey Lurie moved his team to Dallas, i.e. the current Cowboys becoming the Philadelphia Eagles and the current Eagles becoming the Dallas Cowboys, are you still rooting for "The Dallas Cowboys" ?

Answer: Yes, if Dallas sues to keep the franchise name and history. Why? Because I root for the Dallas Cowboys. I do not root for other teams.

Now, Philadelphia does not faze me like some Cowboys fans, especially younger Cowboys fans. Let's also do the three and only three NFL franchises that do bother me too.

Answer: Yes, if the city of Dallas (and/or Arlington) sues to keep the franchise name and history. Why? Because I root for the Dallas Cowboys. I do not root for other teams. Incidentally, the 49ers are third on my list.

Answer: Yes, if the city of Dallas (and/or Arlington) sues to keep the franchise name and history. Why? Because I root for the Dallas Cowboys. I do not root for other teams. The Steelers are second on my list.

Answer: Yes, if the city of Dallas (and/or Arlington) sues to keep the franchise name and history. Why? Because I root for the Dallas Cowboys. I do not root for other teams.

The same answer would logically apply to the remaining 27 hypotheticals after subtracting the Jerry Jones/Cal McNair scenario, which had already been done.

Let's say your hypothetical happened before the 2027 season; the city of Dallas (and/or Arlington) did not sue to retain the rights to the franchise's history and name. As I already explained in post #9, my answer would be no because the Dallas Cowboys franchise, established in 1960, would have ended, and a new franchise, after only adopting the former franchise's name and nothing else, would begin.

How about just eliminating Dak and the Cowboys from the league and letting the true state team the Texans represent Texas.

So you’re saying Roger Staubach would then belong to the franchise that’s currently employeeing CJ Stroud? And Jerry Jones would own the most recent expansion team
