Our Achilles Heel

I wonder if we will win this year.

winning isnt the goal, culture, which i feel has turned a corner, but the big reason, has Jerry turned the corner and want to win again, thats the ONLY thing that stops the main goal. Can we win, sure we can beat up bad teams, the occasional 2 shock wins or losses. But have we gotten behind the main goal, thats to be seen, but i loved out off season.

With the vast improvements on the defensive side of the ball, I started thinking about the one weak link this season. IMO, it is the backup QB position. Sam "Boog" Howell is a bus driver at best, while Joe "Rocket Arm" Milton III has been a complete disaster. It would suck if this season is a bust, not because of the defense but because we didn't invest in a quality backup QB.
A backup QB is a bus driver, that’s the definition of what your backup QB is supposed to be.

Babe Laufenberg the worst of all time.
Have you watched any preseason games this year? Babe seems a lot better than some other teams local guys. Last night the guy called Howard, Rudolph Mason on a pass. Babe at least knows his stuff.

I wasn't talking about him in the booth. I was talking about his playing career.

Agreed, and the backups here just don't inspire confidence.

But then again, Jerry has never:
  1. Drafted a QB in the 1st round since Aikman
  2. Valued the backup QB and it has cost us
I worry a lot about this season assuming the defense will at least be average, but that Dak is older and might miss significant time, esp if Tyler G continues to struggle.
All of that is true.
Hopefully Jerry sees the backup QB spot is a future crisis if something happens to Dak. Especially after everything they did positive this off-season. Imo, there's still time to try to fix this but they really should have done better in the early off-season.

Well said and I agree.

Yet, not all backups are created equal. And younger backups can be groomed to become legitimate NFL starters (Kurt Warner comes to mind). Tom Brady was a backup as was Aaron Rogers. It’s not accurate to say all 32 NFL backup QBs are just bus drivers.

We already know the ceiling for our backup QBs. Is is too much to ask to draft a QB in the first few rounds and develop them? But that’s not how Jerry views the most important position on the field.

We got lucky with Romo and Dak. Sean Peyton pushed to keep Romo on the roster his rookie season. Dak was a 4th rounder.
