Since everyone is talking about Camden Brown, and rightfully so, I'll mention Julius Wood. I loved what I saw from him. Instinctive, fast to the ball, good tackler and hits hard.

He's only listed at fourth team on the depth chart the Cowboys released, but considering how he played plus the fact I've come across several reports during camp of how good he's looking, he could be an intriguing candidate for the 53, though numbers at safety might make it tough.

As for the defense as a whole, as expected, they played pretty vanilla, but I was looking for whether they'd play their assignment well, maintain lane/gap/coverage discipline, and tackle well on first contact, all things that point to good coaching. I thought they addressed those things fairly well. Not saying there weren't issues, but at this stage, I'm just looking for how well they play the fundamentals and know their assignments as a unit, and individually, how particular guys are showing speed, instincts and making plays.

The biggest thing that came across to me is that the team didn't look like a clown show. I many have forgotten just how bad the team has looked in preseason in the recent past. We always kind of ignore it because "its just preseason" and then the same sloppiness and unprofessionalism shows up all season long.

IMO, the team is a elite edge rusher away from being pretty damned good.

For Von I would cut Land, Wheat, Marist and keep six outside linebackers/edge rushers on their 53-man roster, especially with defensive coordinator Christian Parker shifting toward hybrid 3-4 and 4-3 blended concepts that place a high premium on versatile rushers and space-defenders

So Gary, EZ, Houston, Lawrence, Williams (has guaranteed money) and Miller

For me, I think our defence looked much better than during the preseason last year.....and that was against depth pieces on a team that just won the SB. Well done!!!!

Also, I think Camden Brown may have won a roster spot. Question is, who is going to have to make way and what can we get for that player?

You are posting about a game of almost entirely back ups and players that wont be on the team.So yea, you are over reacting.

I mean, why not kick the tires for the remainder of preseason? If he still looks good, he makes the 53. If he doesn't, then he doesn't make the team. Plus, the other upside is that he can teach our younger guys during the remainder of preseason.

Which is solid imo. And if he's mainly a 3rd down specialist, that's not the worst thing. Especially on a cheap incentive based contract.

Because I think they'd have to cut someone in order to bring someone else in during the remainder of TC. So, if they're going to end up cutting Holden later anyway, why not do it now, and bring in Von Miller for the remainder of TC/preseason on a cheap mostly incentive based deal?

Yeah, Wood and also Bridges looked great. Also, I thought Land played well yesterday too.

Firstly, it's interesting to see what people on here think about this type of topic. I think Camden did well, and it's nice to see our depth pieces actually looked competent last night. That's not an overreaction. If I said that I thought we were going to win the Super Bowl after last night, that'd be an overreaction. But I'm just saying that I think our defence looked better than they did in the 2025 preseason. That's a fair thought imo.
